Hey man, I know it’s 2 years later. But you don’t have to earn or deserve a nice cue! Having a cue you truly love will actually help your game consistency a ton plus you’ll enjoy playing more. If you can afford it, BUY IT. Even if you’re a beginner. Although if you’re a beginner I wouldn’t recommend a super small diameter shaft.

Today I own anything from the classic Joe Davis 600 to completely hand-turned cues from exotic woods to novelty cues that fold together to become a walking stick or a cue made from extruded aluminum and injection molded plastic! But my favourite will always be my Riley; I had the butt re-worked, cored and re-weighted. It's not the most expensive cue in my collection, but I've spent more time with that thing than any human on this planet. What a treat to see inside the McDermott factory. Best $200 I ever spent when I bought my GS Series GS13. It's paid for itself 10 times over. I purchased one of the last made GS13s with Birdseye Maple butts. Whoever stained my cue did an amazing job as well as whoever chose the wood blank. I've had that cue for over 5 years now and it's still straight. The only thing negative I could say about it was the Tiger Everest tip that came on it. I've since had 5 or 6 SIB tips installed over the years. I own some other cues but they were given to me. Certainly will buy another Mcdermott when its time or send mine in to be refurbished. The laminate has started peeling around the joint collar and sleeve. Which is to be expected considering I was playing 5 times a week 3-6 hours each day.

My first McDermott Cue, early 90's E-B3, it was all black with a nylon wrap, best Q i had by far. I had it re-wrapped in late 90's with Irish linen of same color. It was stolen in 2005 from the back of my car, then I tried to buy the same type, kind, and color, but it was off a bit and felt different playing. I thought it would be the same, but they had discontinued the older McDermott models. I then had to change the tip, and things got better with it, going softer tip than the harder ones that came factory. I want to try a new G series shaft that say come with a software tip, or maybe buy an entire new Q. I will stick with McDermott for my next Q, i love the joint on these by far the best of all the Q's I have. I even bought a predator shaft years ago for it, low deflection before you started doing these type of shafts, but it felt UN-balanced with the butt of the McDemott Cue. I quit APA league years ago, but want to get back into it. I ended with an SL5 in 8 ball, and SL7 in 9 ball. I jumped in on an open tournament a few weeks ago, from not playing at all in 3 years and lost 1 match shy of the money rounds. It was 8 ball and had a 9 ball losers bracket. Yes I am hooked again.
