Looks just like my first 2 piece cue, (a Viking), that I bought for around $80. Which, as I remember, was a lot for my pocketbook at the time. This was back in the late 60's. Since then, though I have owned and played with many, many different cues throughout the years, I've always had a liking for Viking cues.

Im glad this popped up on my news feed. I have a few cues. All super expensive. All over a thousand bucks, but my kiddo is starting to get into playing pool and I been wanting to get him something professional quality to shoot with that also looked good for his first cue without breaking the bank. This is perfect. Its a gorgeous cue and super high quality for what it is.

Realistically, if a cue is straight, solid, and has a good tip on it, there's not much more you can ask of a cue. If you're paying upwards of $300 for any cue, you're paying for exotic wood inlays, exotic artwork, the mystic of a private cue maker, or just the name of a cue making company. You will not play better with a $1200 cue than you will with a $100 cue, even if you think you will.

really nice cue, to bad they don't go lower then 18oz/13mm, if the valhalla came in 16 or 17 oz with a 11-11.5 mm tip i'd be all over it. being how good and straight they are i could probably get used to 18oz but could never handle the thickness of a shaft with a 13 mm tip, those fat shaft cues feel like i'm shooting with a club. what i wouldn't give to find a straight reasonably priced 16oz/11mm stick to replace the one i had stolen, shooting with that stick was like doing a precision carving with a scalpel, i miss it.....
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool 12 күн бұрын
Yes, 13mm as standard (as with most cues these days). Have you considered the possibility of trying out a UK pool cue instead of an American model? They go down to 8mm typically (tiny!!!), but larger tip options are available. Maybe a 10mm would work for you? Just a thought? 👍

Would you recommend going with the wrap or not? Coming from, English pool and snooker the wrap seems a bit odd. Does the wrap need replacing as it ages?
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool 15 күн бұрын
It's all down to personal preference really. If you're coming from a snooker background, then I'd probably save myself the $10 and go wrapless as it will feel more natural to you. With regards to wraps, on the Valhalla it's genuine Irish linen, well wrapped and pressed. Good wraps can last for decades (or longer probably!) and I'd be surprised if you had any issues with the Valhalla wrap (provided the cue is looked after of course) anytime soon. If you decide to buy one, please be sure to use our Amazon links in the Video Description and help support us in return. Thank you! 👍

Im a novice pool player. After reviewing your video I bought the Viking Valhalla cue stick. In fact, I upgraded to a 200 series rather that the 100 series in your video. As soon as I removed it from the box I knew I made a mistake. I was so disappointed at how cheap it felt; like a bar cue! Even my instructor commented about how "plasticky" (his exact word) the cue stick felt. I returned it the very next day. I ended up purchasing a well known industry cue instead. I still dont understand why you gave this stick such high ratings.
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool Ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experiences. The cue we reviewed was the 100 series. The 200 series is a little different as those have the graphic prints rather than the stained wood finish on the 100 series. We should be reviewing the 200 series soon. Often with the graphic print cues can have the plasticky feel you mentioned as the entire butts are often full print on a vinyl layer, and so you are essentially touching 100% vinyl and no actual wood. We'll see if the 200 Series has this when we review it, but we have come across this numerous times for various other budget-orientated brands and so maybe that's the plasticky feel you found on your 200 series? The 100 series is not plasticky in any way, and is an amazing cue for the price. Hope that helps 👍

My first good pool cue was and still is the one I play with. And yes it's a $100 Valhalla. A pro pool player told me that with Viking cues in particular, cheap or expensive they all play just as well. You pay for the deco basically. Many players want inlays and wraps etc. So in regards to these cues whether it's $1500 or $80 or $100 they all shoot exceptionally well and you can trust them to hold up in tournaments as well as recreation. I love mine, and know you will too once you feel it. I might note however that I wouldn't break with it. Simply to preserve its life span, I'd just use a simple house cue or a one piece of your own for breaks. But glad the creator of this vid did it anyways, if for nothing else, to show it can handle it.

If anyone is considering a lucky cue by McDermott or this, dont make the mistake to buy a lucky cue if you are ever worry about warpage , Valhalla cue is life time warranty, all you pay for is shipping cost. But McDermott does not ever cover warpage, only other minor defects , joint or pin imperfection. The cost to ship to McDermott and warpage repair is about $80 u might as well buy different cue at that point or have local fix it for you… Just my 2 cents, I already made the mistake of buying a Lucky cue I just hope it play well for few years before needed to replace.

Yes, there are pro's and con's for both for sure. The Lucky does not cover warpage, and the Valhalla can only be replaced once (according to the warranty pages on both). Does the design allow for a screw in extension, presumably needing a female thread part to be installed too, or is it limited to the bulkier push on type? I've recently changed from mostly playing on 7ft (8ball) to 9ft tables (and 9ball) and want to buy a replacement to my 30yr old cue which I don't want to modify to allow for an extension. Any advice greatly appreciated!
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool 2 ай бұрын
You have a few options for cue extensions for Valhalla cues. Viking produce a centre extension, but this DOES NOT fit Valhalla (only Viking quick release). But they also produce a rear (butt) extension in 6" and 12" and those are available with a Valhalla adapter (see their website for more info). But if you want a centre (joint) extension rather than rear (butt) then there are options out there including Balance Rite who do a 5/16-18 joint extension (4"). Hope that helps 👍

About 2 weeks ago I started playing pool after seeing a video on the ghost ball method / theory. Basically I became hooked even though I know I have so very much to learn. After hacking around with the cues in my apartment complex, I decided to buy my first cue. BECAUSE of your video ( which is most excellent ) I bought the Valhalla. I couldn’t wait for it to arrive and when it did … I rushed over to the table and started playing. Again, I’m a beginner so there’s a lot of user related issues but I was missing shots ( easy ones ) that I previously would have made. With all that said, is this ‘normal’ with a new cue? I think I know the answer but would like to hear an answer from a professional. The one thing that I can really tell is the tip of the older stick appears to be flatter if that makes sense. It’s nominal but I can see a little difference. Anyway, I’m rambling but any thoughts you had would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much …
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool 18 күн бұрын
Firstly, glad you like your Valhalla. Secondly, if you used our Amazon links to buy it then thank you so much for your support! As to your question on tip shape, the tip shape is correct on the Valhalla, and on your old cue it would have been flattened over time and use. You actually want this curved profile to the tip as it improved cue ball contact, and the two most common tip shapes are Dime and Nickle Radius (so called because they match the outer radius of those coins). Dime radius tends to be preferred by most. Check out Dr Daves guide to tip shape, which outlines why you want this rounded profile rather than flat: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue-tip/size-and-shape/ Also, I'd recommend picking up a Willards Tip Shaper, a great tool for keeping the tip in good order and maintaining good shape (stop it flattening over time). They're cheap and really handy: amzn.to/3XxQIxr You'll get used to the Valhalla very soon, and you'll find when you go back to the old house cue (once you're used to the Valhalla) you'll miss the shots with the house cue and making them with the Valhalla!! Hope that helps 👍
