I don't know about any changes but Meghan sure brought a lot of popularity to them. Just look at the Kensington Palace IG, their followers increased tremendously since Meghan came in the picture and in the few months from engagement announcement to the wedding, their followers just skyrocketed. By its nature the monarchy (and in order for it to survive) it must change with the times. We saw that with the divorces of Margaret and her husband, Charles and Diana, Anne and her husband, Andrew and Sarah. The Queen has recently sent hee first Instagram and there will be many subtle changes whether you like it or not. BTW Meghan has never said she will change anything so people need to stop getting their knickers in a twist.

Meghan has brought a lot of people to the fore who were not there before. She had already made a few friends in Ireland before going there with Harry. She had done humanitarian work in India. She brought attention to the UK from people who knew or cared very little about the Royals or the UK. I’m one. I’m interested now in going back to England for a tour because of the wedding. Prior, I had no interest in re-visiting since 1990. More tourist will be going since the wedding. I have several senior friends who have expressed a desire to go for the first time now. Her influence can’t be measured right now but there is definitely an influence on people of the commonwealth and others around the world. Her fashion choices alone is stimulating economies (textiles, retail, seamstresses, cotton farmers etc. etc. etc). Don’t underestimate the power of an influencer.

The royal family is an institution which changes and evolves with time. When the royal family cease to appear to us as something special and worthy of our respect and admiration, they will be no more. They need to remain separate and inaccessible. When the queen of England can be seen cycling down the mall, that will be the time the royal family ceases to exist. Recently the president of Ireland greeted the Pope. Can anyone name him? A complete nonentity! If you want your heads of state to be unknown and unrecognisable, get rid of the royal family. But if want a figure head, charisma, mystery, presence, dignity, diligence and continuity, you need to keep the institution of monarchy separate from the rest of us common grubby folk.

If you look at all the fan accounts on Instagram you will see this is true. But she’s not so popular among English people. To say she’s modernising the royal family is ridiculous. She’s only been in the family for a few months and so far has done nothing except show a penchant for extremely expensive designer clothes, again something that makes not going to endear her to the British, who like our royals to work hard like Princess Ann and wear 40 year old recycled clothes.
