Sure, if I visited Melbourne FL (actually named after Melbourne VIC fwiw) or Brisbane CA, I would need to adopt your pronunciation. Melborn used to be a great city. People were very friendly to each other, and quality of life was good. Now it's a dangerous, overpopulated shit hole, with its key feature being those that own property and exotic cars, and those that don't. Quality of life considerably diluted now. Best not to speak to anyone, or help anyone, you might get robbed or slashed or urinated on. It's a city worth staying away from. And almost none of these projects have, or will ever happen. And it's pronounced Mel Burn, not Mel Born.

The sheer volume of new highrises isn't so much the issue for me. It's the way the vast majority of them are clustered in the existing CBD and surrounding inner suburbs. Melbourne needs to decentralise itself and build more secondary Box Hill kind of CBD's in the suburbs. That's how many large cities operate.
