Yeah, pretty much. Essentially, he wanted to replace Xhaka, but we just ended up without someone in that role for a whole season. Luckily, Kai's been quite good upfront, but this is why most of our play was down the right-hand side as well. Merino and Zin/Tim/Cal will unlock the left-hand side for us this season. I'm expecting the team to reach a new level.

Did you say he can play as a 10 as well as a 6 and 8?????? That is going to be very very handy, especially if Odegaard can't play for some reason. His introduction into our team on the left will do wonders for little Gabby M, in particular if Merino plays the ball down the line, in behind the full back. I noticed in the Villa game yesterday that Gabby was almost starved of any service, even though he was in acres of space. It seems that with Merino coming in, he can replicate our very successful right hand side triangle of White, Saka and Odegaard on the left hand side, with either Timber or Calafiori at LB and Gabby M or Trossard as the winger. This will make us more unpredictable and it will definitely make things easier for Arteta....... happy days!!! We finally have our Granit Xhaka replacement!!!!!!!

I honestly see merino playing LW they will take out martinelli because martinelli has his good and bad moments and he’s not a reliable winger. But merino has more tactical and passing ability and has a good scoring foot that will help arsenal attacking

I always look forward to videos on Arsenal tactics, but whenever I watch yours, I can tell that you don’t really understand Arteta’s tactics fully. Merino won’t be played as an 8, unless he needs to. He’d mostly play deeper as a 6 under Arteta, especially if he’s playing next to Rice, since he’s a lot more comfortable at progressing the play compared to Rice. He’d play as an 8 if he plays next to Partey or Jorginho
