In today's modern "hustle" culture, we can often feel disconnected from our creativity. The internet and newsfeeds offer - and in fact encourage - constant distraction. Today, Abbie and I are discussing a better and more connected way to create - a life and creative process rooted in mindfulness. So take a deep breath, and let's dive in!

What I find insane is that I just realized when you spoke about how we spend time on our phone and then we're like, "Eh, my creative energy is gone now," has happened to me before and I didn't realize that the energy was gone BECAUSE of the time on the phone, not just because I was being lazy and tired. It is almost like we're connected to the screen and it's draining our batteries.

Mindful rest is where I’m at right now. I’ve had a rough week, was in the hospital had to have a minor back surgery do to a mysterious infected abscess that grew on my back. Good Karma was on my side though and I’m home recovering. Could use the good vibes and healing energies from my friends. Thank you Kate and Abbie for helping me to get on the right page with my projects. Kinda need to recalibrate my sense of direction. That’s where the meditation comes in.

That point about limited phone usage is so true!!! I always feel so much better, creatively & mentally, when I don't have my phone on me. Let's get plugged back into the world around us instead of staying prisoners of our devices. ;D

Yes on the phones! I've been trying for the past year or 2 to re-define what I actually need on my phone and reduce the crazy amount of times it distracts me. I've been wanting a landline for a while now to help with it too! Unfortunately I'm not in a position to get one yet, so I'm continuing my attempts to reduce my phone usage. I said this before as well, but walks are so helpful for resetting a bit, as Abbie mentioned. I finally got to take one today after a long winter keeping me cooped up, and although it was short it was still refreshing! I'm looking forward to more as weather clears up since it can get me to think about my projects again once I get back inside.

Hi ladies- psych grad here, absolutely loved this episode! I’m curious if either of you have experienced burnout after a heavy writing session in the form of increased fatigue/headaches? And what sort of processes you may take to “recover” so to speak. Thanks! 🙏☺️

Hi dear ones! It is now at this point when I feel I need a break. I feel I have exhausted myself and the work I have done is soooo successfull, but now I feel if I push it, I will burn myself out. So this episode came just the right time. Love and hugs to you!

What helps me shift into focused writing mode quickly is playing the same instrumental song on a loop. It has basically trained my brain that when that music starts to play, it’s time to shut everything else out. I listen to the “any other name” loop (a song off the soundtrack for American Beauty). I find it incredibly relaxing and it really has become my go to for a quick shift into writing mode.

This is definitely a subject I’ve been thinking about this year; finding a good balance between taking in inspiration but also making time and space for silence can be so difficult sometimes. Once you begin, though, there’s no going back 😆 Thanks for another awesome episode, girls!! 😄
