As a full time teacher, I can't usually write all throughout the week. However, I zoom with a friend every Friday evening and we write together for a few hours, and that usually inspires me to write over the weekend as well. Overall, I usually write about a chapter a week. It's not fast, but it's incredibly consistent and I'm now almost halfway through my second draft.

This hits home for me, lol. My best friend is a teacher as well, so we work in pretty much the same way you both are :)

I know how you feel. I’m not a teacher but I work a full time job in a restaurant five days a week and I have to get up very early and stay up late to write my chapters. A chapter a week is not bad at all, if it’s consistent it’s good

I finally figured out what works for me! I can't write until I clean my house first and do daily house chores. I found that I'm the most productive when writing around 1 until my kids come home from school.

Is it just me, or, do you two seem refreshed? I just happen to be terrified of my sister. We both like to write. I wanted to be her friend and creative collaborator but she hates me, and her not wanting to be my writing buddy is the least of it. I took away her status as 'only child' when she was almost 3 yrs old and I've never been forgiven for it. There is no consequence - and therefore I spent my life protecting my parents and grandparents from her wrath if I 'got ahead of her in anything' - that would warrant her stopping from trying to make sure I had no role-that-mattered in the family. So towards the end of last year when I thought I detected something ... weariness in/between you two my anxiety went sky high. But now you seem relaxed. It's calming. I've got a lot out of your conversation today. I'll go back and watch it again to think some more about my writing routine for this year. I have an idea for a serious comic/graphic novel series that I am writing illustrating - mostly just in my head so far! But I already 'do that thing' you mentioned ... of 'having my story in my head perpetually.' It will be a set of murder thriller stories, where some occur in the deep past and others way into far future times. But what they will have in common is 'how some one compartmentalized thing,' occurring in any era, is 'murderously dangerous' whenever it gets out of alignment with the natural order, with Mother Nature's ways ... and so I want the narrators of each story to be some sort of unexpected-one of Mother Nature's children, eg in the first story, where I sort of have a prologue already written (that I did as a stand alone thing a couple of years ago, BEGORE the pandemic's highlighting of microbes) where the narrators belong to the highly organized and disciplined society of microbes that actually exists! Yes there is science about that. There is a book by anthropologist and biologist, C.E. Herrera Giraldo, called ''Microbes & Other Shamanic Beings" where he discusses that. I found that book when mulling over the idea that the 'compartmentalized one -scary - thing' of the future particularly will be 'advanced tech. devoid of all connection, all alignment, to the natural world. Sadly, my mother, a deep creative and the last one of the family that deeply mattered to me passed away nearly 7 years ago. She lived with me and I was her carer for the last 10 years of her life. My sister hated/?was envious of that and was always trying to get Mum into a nursing home ... away from me. But now I finally know that that means that I no longer need-for-family-harmony's-sake to have anything to do with my sister. Instead I can honour my creative heritage ... hopefully without fear controlling everything I do. You two, each in your own way, and together, really are the most healingly helpful pair of writing (and life) guides ... even though you are decades younger than me. Life's an odd thing. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10223417845945881&set=pb.1579280024.-2207520000..&type=3

I really appreciate you two for giving all of us some great advice. I've been writing slowly every day but was afraid to start working on another project. Now I can multi-task with a few stories I've placed on hold. Thank you both!!

Since I am a single mother and are building a business + are tired in the evenings, I'll experience with 30 minutes of writing when I open the computer to start my work day 😎

Happy new year to you both! I relate to both of you here on the things like keeping yourself immersed in your own story and being totally distracted at random times of the day with it. I've been that way with stories since I was little lol. I'll be doing my best to build that habit of consistent writing this year... I'm getting closer to it little by little.

See, for me, I want to be multi-tasking. Not because the internet wants me to but because I love so many things. I love Photography, drawing, painting and writing and they all take a lot of time and i want to give them all what they need so i can make all the magic I am supposed to. But of course the funny thing is that, trying to do that won't help. So My whole mission is trying to figure out time management and a regiment so I can have the time to get myself back to the person I am meant to be and creating everything that needs to come out. No doubt, getting into a calm and relaxed feeling is a big part of it and giving yourself the space to focus on just one thing at a time. I just am searching to find the balance so that i can feel like doing any of it at all, other than photography which i constantly do.

I go to school at 8:30am and return home at 2:35pm. Then comes homeworks and preparation for the next college day. The only holiday I get is Sunday. I feel so stressed and burnt out. It's so much work that whenever I get free time I don't have the power to write and just want rest.
@glessier2 жыл бұрын
Yes! This is what exactly happens to me with work. I just don't feel with enough energy to write during my little free time. But I think that maybe implementing a 30 mins routine for Sunday would work if I see writing as a recharging energy method, kind of. As Abby And Kate said "have fun out of writing."

Yes just write a little bit, take a small amount of time a week to write
@katnissgrace10172 жыл бұрын
Honestly I work all week so I get feeling exhausted, and trying to build a writing career in addition to a job is HARD. But I recommend making writing your enjoyable “you time.” Because for me it really is a form of escape that helps me deal on a daily basis

I'm consistent these days (I'm a teacher but I'm on holiday in my country, Argentina). I write whenever I can, but I'd love to have a fixed schedule. These days that's possible, but when I get back to work I know I won't be able to keep on doing that.

I know- I got it for Christmas too (haven’t finished it, but absolutely LOVE IT) Like the internal conflict is amazing- Characters and everything- And tbh, I wish I could write HALF as good. But alas, Abbie is the only one who can be the writing master. But yes, the book is so lovely and just-ahhhh-the conflict-

I agree when you said it helps when you have a buddy. I find it that book clubs online helps a lot when it comes those who cannot share with a family member or friends if they don't share the same passion in writing. Not only do you get someone to read your progress, but you get that constructive criticisms and notes or any typos. 10:30 being mindful to lifestyle is something I really need to work on because I don't have a regular schedule with my job. I am one of those who can work any time of the day shift full-time without issues, but leaves an inconsistent time for my "me time".
