Baseball is so hard to be clutch in. You can’t give your best player a chance to win the game, they just have to get lucky enough to be up to bat at that moment. This is one of the reasons guys like David freese will live on forever in baseball lore. Anyone can be the best player on the field at any given time, it’s all circumstantial.

Barry Bond's playoff struggles in the 90s can't be overlooked he wasn't at his best but man that 2002 run will always be special. It made me care for this sport for 20 years despite being tortured for being a Mets fan. He could've been a DH for contender AL team before he retired since his numbers was still good in that season. I know he's juiced af and the steroid era of baseball definitely tainted the sport but boy were those the most fun era I've watched.

I saw Barry Bonds in either 91 or 92 when the Pirates were playing against the Giants at Candlestick Park. I remember my dad wanted us to go and sit towards the left field for a couple of games just to be close to Barry Bonds. I remember we talked to him at one point in one of the games and he seemed like a nice guy. Him becoming a Giant a year or two later was one of those awesome moments as a Giants fan.

His big steroid frame didn't help him when it came to running for the game Clinching and series altering Double by Troy Glaus which gave the Angels a 6-5 lead and the game and the championship. The 2002 SF Giants literally gave that World Series to the Angels. Of course they had to go out there and win games six and seven, but Bonds sure didn’t do anything to get his team in a position to win either elimination game that year. At that point, most MLB fans were pulling for Bonds to get a ring. With what happened with the 1990-92 Pirates, then in 2002 the Giants were on year 48-49 of their WS drought. If Barry Bonds got his emotions in check even just a little bit, especially those last 4-5 years, then his legacy would be far different. There are a lot of Pirates and Giants fans that don’t even like the guy. It’s no mystery why he didn’t get a single offer to play in the 2008 season. At that point everyone just wanted the guy to go away. Reminds me of a certain NBA superstar in 2024.

That's why baseball is a team game, you need your teammates to carry the water sometimes, its more on them than Mr.Bonds. 162 games carried and they couldn't show up in the last 20?? therefore I posit the notion that the biggest chokers are indeed his teammates and not Mr. Bonds. Bonds was by NO stretch the Best Player Of The 90s. Tony Geynn was a Better player in the 90s. He was good, sure. Not the Best. I was there. I saw it. The Braves won the 92 NLCS because his noodle arm couldn’t even throw out the LITERAL slowest base runner in MLB, Sid Bream scoring from 2B.

It's never any one player's fault unless (maybe, and then only partially) they're the last guy who had a chance to win it

@@TheManny717 Bonds had a .471 AVG, .700 OBP, and 1.294 SLG percentage in 2002 WS. That's a 1.994 OPS. That's the 5th highest OPS in World Series history & he had basically double the PAs of the guys above him. You couldn't ask more from him offensively

@catman-du8927 He only has 1 career Home Runs outside of 2002. Horrible playoff performer
