There's a safety for horses in firmness. Firmness offered for and with the horse. Firmness free of emotion and full of clarity and care. It's tricky thing to master- but I'm seeing the results for my reactive, spooky little guy. Join us on A Learner's Journey Facebook group to discuss this and other topics. / 217708313783502

Getting emotional was a problem for me also. Even though I had been told to keep my head, the "charge" was enough to get me off balance. After some years, and some horses that had aquired " bad" labels , i am better at getting myself "" up" then back down where I need to be. It's all part of our learning process,as well as the horses. Getting firm is a necessary part of leadership, knowing how to bring it back down ,and when, is just as important. Great video on a very important topic!

That is a great analogy, Molly! It is so supportive ( life saving) with the more reactive horse as it helps change my thinking to "this is how I can I help you, trust me that I want want us both to live and get through this together, so you need to do this now". I have more grace and handled things better with what I perceive as fear based reactions. It is more challenging for me with a confident, "why should I follow your lead" type of horse. That's where my emotion fitness is pushed to the next level. I don't like when an individual ( my horse) says "you're not engaging enough, you're boring" I want to come out strong against that ( although it's true :). I'm so grateful to continue learning. Thank you so much for sharing Charley with us virtually. What a gift!

That can definitely be more challenging! I'm glad you liked the analogy 😊
