Great video Doc , I’ve noticed if I have a couple of beers or a couple of glasses of whiskey I always have a brilliant BP reading. It’s funny because I was having this conversation with my wife last night ….the effects of alcohol and BP . My neighbour can drink 20 plus cans of beer . I had to start avoiding him because the first thing he says is “ Do you want a cold one ? “ . I do love a cold beer but not for breakfast !

Thanks doc, for making my Sunday morning ! Being an older Italian guy who has desperately been trying to get thinner and who hates himself after the first drink but seldom able to not go over two which I set at a goal almost a year ago. But made my day because red wine has always been the healthiest for me and I'm trying to get out of the harder stuff. Yea today to this Italian seems wrong without a plate of pasta with sauce and a glass of red wine ! Thanks for sticking to the script, and being my favorite health coach. 👍🏼 Joe Lake Havasu, Arizona.

Hello, Lake Havasu! I was through there not long ago. Beautiful area & I am grateful for the bridge which my uncle, who was KIA in WWII, specifically mentioned in letters home. He was stationed at an air base in England. I'm right there with you on a glass of red wine. White never is on my menu, and I rarely partake of anything else. Each of us is different & we need to listen to our bodies. I think the joyful aspect of a delicious glass of red wine as an accompaniment to a wonderful meal far outweighs the potential negative. I have followed Dr. Story for a long while & his education on blood pressure has probably saved my life. Have a blessed day, Joe!

I consider myself lucky because I never liked the taste of any alcohol, unlike my father who used to drink beer every day. Yes, he had high blood pressure.

I drink two light beers a day. I think that’s the key, no IPA’s or high ABV beers!

One shot of whiskey and one Guinness per day , on average, is my key to a healthy, well balanced life. But only after all my work is done for the day.🍀

Heavy drinkers like the example Dr. Story gave as in "a case of beer," a day cannot be healthy. Having said that, like some of the examples in the comments, you can be healthy and have 3 or so drinks a day. If you are getting into fights, driving while drinking, or have liver disease, this does NOT apply to you. 😄

I have a shot or two of vodka every night. When my bp is HIGH, I definitely have a shot! I have 3 different heart problems: MVP, heart murmur and an electrical problem. My heart has been really bad this last week. Pretty sure I’m gonna meet my Maker before I get to vote. HBP, fainting and fear run my life now.

Alcohol made my heart palpitations (PAC's and PVC's) worse. But maybe that's just me. 🤷♀️ I cut out all alcohol about 15 months ago, and don't regret it. I also have found that managing acid reflux helps to lessen my heart palpitations. Just my experience. Wishing you the best. Hang in there. P.S. Highly advise you to tell your doc about the fainting.

How much is a case of beer? A 24 pack or 18? What percent alcohol ? Regardless, I cannot imagine a human can sustain that for very long, but I do know a guy who starts the day with beer and at 2PM switches to vodka..till bed. 82 years old. No, he is NOT healthy, but still alive. Sad but true.

My 74 year old older brother still drinks 12 cans of cheap beer per day (most days) and he also smokes one half to one pack of cigs also. He's in lousy condition, but he actually looks good in his street clothes. I followed a different road - I exercise daily, only consume alcohol socially, generally 1-2 per day on average and I am in excellent condition. Balance is the key to a fulfilling life.

I was told that alcohol was a blood thinner, and that was supposed to be the benefit of one serving a day. ?????

@@scottallen2190Not true. Alcohol has a mild blood-thinning effect. It can reduce the ability of blood platelets to stick together, which decreases blood clotting.

It is a blood thinner. But if already on a blood thinner then you drink too......
