Sometimes when I feel like I’ve actually applied enough blush on my cheeks and yet I still want more blush, I’ll use the blush as eyeshadow, and that usually satisfies the blush monster inside.
@RocketNinjaSlap3 жыл бұрын
i think even ten layers was just barely kissing the line of too much, but personally my only real "oh god, what have i done, it's... alive!!!" moment with blush is when i go too high up the bridge of my nose. I have a somewhat hooked nose with a really wide tip and very narrow bridge, as well as really pale skin, so not only does it do weird things to my nose's shape but it also feels less sun-kissed/healthily-flushed and more pre-cancerous, char-broiled, nightmares-of-summer-vacation-gone-wrong badness.

I truly think it’s so flattering to apply blush higher up on the back of the cheekbone almost connecting it to the bottom lash line and top eyeshadow otherwise it looks like someone laid out in the sun with goggles on and is flushed in a w meaning across the nose but then under the eyes is just bare and pale. Just my two cents, I always connect my bronzer/blush to my eyes and a little underneath and connecting to the eyeshadow

Your bare minimum blush is essentially my everyday blush look, but if I ever feel like I went slightly overboard, I like to use the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter as a highlight. your technique at the end is actually kind of my go too. I have oily skin so I always want to powder my face. So when I'm using cream blush I add a little "too much" and then when I use a light dusting of skin tone powder over top it takes it down just the right amount

I feel like to properly answer the question, it's really dependant on both skin tone, and also the actual color of the blush. A bright pink blush is gonna show up a lot faster than a pale dusty rose regardless of how many layers. Personally, I like my blush to compliment my eyeshadow, but not to be super bold, cause I like my eyes to be the most dramatic part of my makeup. So if I'm wearing burgundy on my eyes, I'll go with a more neutral blush, but if I have blue or purple on my eyes, I'd probably go a lilac blush (also hey, let's normalize purple blush cuz it's awesome) whereas, if I have pink eyeshadow, I'd go for a pink blush.
@justinewang67883 жыл бұрын
Glad to see another blush lover! I go pretty light on blush, but I still really like a wash of pink on the cheeks to bring some complexity back into the skin. It makes me a little sad that people rag on blush so much. I also feel like blush is on the easier side of things to apply as long as you go light and high, because our skin will naturally turn a little pink - if we're flushed, sensitive/irritated, etc. The way people fear clown face is me with sand face or dirt face - if those lines of contour and bronzer aren't perfectly positioned and blended it really looks like I tried and failed to use makeup.

Blush is the one makeup product that can quickly make me feel like I'm wearing a mask or I'm trying to be "made up" in a way that makes me feel self-conscious. I think it has something to do with being in theater as a teenager and we would have to put on SO much blush and contour to play characters, plus the overly blushed look of the 80s, which seemed so dated growing up, and older ladies that would wear lots of bright pink blush (now I don't mind being one of those old ladies some day, I think they are rad for rocking whatever makeup they wanted). So long story short, I think that lots of blush looks great on others, but I can't seem to pull it off. I bought the ELF active cream blush palette that you love and I have to do two tiny dots and even then I feel "crazy". So for me it would be one layer, I think when you added the Honest Beauty blush that was a really pretty look.

I LOVE editorial makeup and playing around with color, so when I want to play around with blush I want opaque color and bring it onto my eyes to create a heavily inspired Lauren Mae Beauty situation. I think it's all just based on the makeup look you’re trying to achieve. If you want a little blush just everyday or if you want to play around and make the blush the stand out moment on your face rather than eyes or lips. Recently I used a colourpop super shock in a burgundy color and went crazy on my cheeks, I still think about the look a lot and loved how it looked.

I have middle eastern features and untertones. I…don’t blush. The physiology just isn’t there. For me, applying blush in the ways that are favored by western culture, it’s not piggy backing off of anything natural or not-jarring about my face. For a lot of us, blush can never be natural or “native” to our faces. When we wear blush, it’s starting out from an unnatural place.
@bums0092 жыл бұрын
I have 100% seen some of my middle eastern friends blush... The middle east is a very diverse place where skin tones can range from the very very pale to the very very deep. I am half north African and even the skin tones between relatives vary quite a lot. You also don't need need to have cool/pink undertones to blush naturally either. So I disagree, blush can be natural and native to *some* middle eastern faces.

It really depends on the kind of blush and the color/tone. I think with pinks I could keep applying all day. With a brown or grayer blush, less. The Honest Beauty blush is more coral-pink so it just has more color & is more "rouge like" which is fine for rose-y cheeks or flushed looks which can look so youthful & healthy (with more natural or minimal eye makeup & a nude or glossyl lip) Blush can be very important for Fair/Pale ladies who can't always pull off bronzer convincingly. I will leave the house without mascara or foundation but not without blush My usual for blush is powder. I have a face palette by Smashbox that I can actually utilize all the pans. If I'm in a hurry I just do contour/bromzer/blush/highlighter/setting powder out of that palette. The blush in the palette is very neutral & matte so what I like to do is layer other blushes over it. Depending on the overall color theme of clothes & makeup that day I either go with Hot Mama or Frat Boy by The Balm. Hot Mama is a satin peach with subtle golden shimmer & Frat Boy is a peachy-pink with a natural finish that definitely gives me more of a flush. I do have a couple cream blushes ( Super Shock) & a roll up stick version from Pixi that I like. I use them as a base & set with the blushes from the HG Ghost Face palette. Setting a cream blush with an HG blush is a really nice combo. The HG blushes don't give me enough pigmentation on their own but since they are glowy & sheer they play nice with creams & don't look cakey. As I have aged I have lost volume in my face so I like to use blush to add some fullness to my cheeks & color to my face. It looks more youthful imo than just placing blush high & to the back of the top of the cheek bone.

I am not much for blush since I have very red skin. When I use a light coverage foundation or skin tint, I don't need it since my natural redness always comes through. I might reach for blush when I use a higher coverage base but even then I go light-handed. I'd stop at the second application since blush doesn't really suit me.

I love this concept! I think that I agree with your assessment of what's too much blush for your face. For me it really depends on what mood I'm in, if I want to be "experimental" I'll put like the one layer of the red blush from the Natasha Denona Bloom palette because that blends out to like a 4 layer look. However, for less intense colors I think I'm a 7-9 layer kinda b lol
