I wish people would understand that he didn’t just “hold back”, he quite literally scripted the entire fight to perfection which is far more impressive. I especially love how at the beginning of the fight they show us just how degraded itachi’s vision is as well. And as we all know, he was also plagued with his terminal illness. Despite this he was still able to give Sasuke a fight in which he never once tried to actually hurt him while still giving the illusion that it was a fight to the death all so Sasuke could arise as a hero. He even made sure to draw out and seal orochimaru to free sasuke from his curse mark. Went as far as to give him some of his power to further protect Sasuke from Madara(Tobi/Obito) - unfortunately, as we know, itachi didn’t realize obito had a surplus of sharingans so he could easily employ izanagi without actually sacrificing his true eye. In conclusion it really is a shame we never got to see him at full power actually trying but still one of my favorite scenes.

Sasuke experienced intensive headaches with little use after unlocking it, while we know Itachi had used his Mangekyo way more and for much longer. 1:49 This is probably one of my favourite moments in Shippuden. The whole Genjutsu part of this fight is really entertaining and is a good example why I love battles involving Genjutsu. It's a good way to trick, not only the characters, but also the viewer / reader and it therefore has great narrative value (just like Naruto's little "pranks" with his Shadow clones and transformation jutsu). And the fact the Uchiha brother uses several layers of Genjutsu against each other is very enjoyable to watch / read.

So although it was Genjutsu, it was still based on Itachi's actual self. If you noticed, the entire fight, he tries to stay in contact with Sasuke's body. I think that, considering his rapidly declining eyesight, he was actually reading Sasuke's muscle movements to know how to dodge and attack.

I remember watching this when it first came out. I miss fights like this. The animation/artstyle, music, choreography, the dark story between the 2 characters giving us the bloodlust vibes, fear, anger etc... The character development is out of the window in Shippuden. We all thought Itachi was evil and how scary he was until after this fight, it was all his plan. In my opinion this is what I miss when I watch anime's today. Not a lot can replicate the feelings Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and a couple others give off.

I don't think anyone noticed but at 2:20 itachi asks sasuke "what do you want to know?" meaning itachi was implying to sasuke that he should be curious "do you know why i did what i did" in hopes sasuke would ask or be curious about the cause of his actions and then he said "it's not over, but I'll hear you out." meaning he wanted to egg sasuke on to see how much of a child is he still is his only purpose to take this ignorant path that leads to an unloving situation

There's lots of details in this fight that gets overlooked, you need to replay those scenes over and over to better understand the choppiness at times because the frames are too few and the scenes go by fast, I really have a greater appreciation for animators to pump out an episode each week.
