I appreciate Aptera taking the time to take questions. You can tell some of the answers have been given many times before. They are probably getting tired of some of these questions, but it is part of the business. Aptera has gone bankrupt before and is behind schedule, so asking financial related questions is not really rude and is probably among the most common asked ones. I do think many people want to see them succeed, including me. Once they offer something that can seat four people, I will consider their vehicles for purchase.

"Aptera has gone bankrupt before" Why do people keep repeating this lie? The fact is that years after Chris and Steve were booted from the company in a surprise board vote organized by the Idealab appointed CEO, they had abandoned the plan that Chris and Steve had raised money for. They were unable to fund their changed vision for the company, and they held an orderly liquidation. The company never went bankrupt.

I’m waiting for my accelerator Aptera and I’m planning my trip home to Minnesota. If the sweet spot for the battery is between 20 and 80%, what is the ideal range if I stay in the sweet spot? 20% off the bottom and 20% off the top, leaves 60% in the middle. Taking 40% off the range leaves 240 miles. I’ll be planning my trip carefully because I’ll be looking for a charger much more often than the stated range of 400 miles. Useable range will be closer to 300 than 400.

Brian, you should ask marketing to let you do "Can an Aptera really help the day-to-day life of a big family" where you use an Aptera for a month. That would hopefully give you time to make a range of videos, including testing out how good the solar charging works, especially on more cloudy days. Could do a reactions video of people of random people on the streets. Maybe do a biggest fears addressed video of owning an Aptera, such as if you need it towed who can tow it, or when you need service how will that happen, or if you are on the freeway will a heavy gust of wind blow you out of your lane, and so on. I would suggest presenting a list of about five to ten videos you would make if they loaned you a unit for a month. You could even offer to come down there to get it and make driving Highway 1 part of your videos. I just got back from a short trip in my Model 3 RWD along a the stretch near Jenner, California, and I could see people fearing using an EV in areas like that because charging options are very limited. The range of the Aptera would probably lay to rest much of those fears and it would just be a gorgeous to drive Highway 1. Nice work on the interview Brian. I think you are showing how to ask the tougher questions without being a jerk about it. Some KZbinrs seem to fall to far to the kiss azz side or the hard azz side when asking questions.

@n.brucenelson5920 Жыл бұрын
It is WAY to far in advance to set launch pricing. Look at what happened to Rivian when they tried. While inflation has take a toll, battery prices are plummeting, and the labor, speed and scrap production of the new body panel system are far lower than the original vacuum resin production process would have been. Tooling is much more expensive, but costs are dramatically lower per body produced. We will have to wait and see, once all of the supply contracts are in place.

I really want one of these, but I've been down this road with Arcimoto. Like Elon says "Prototypes are easy, production is hard". These guys have been working on a prototype since 2005, and they still don't have a Production candidate. 😢
@barnabasseadog7660 Жыл бұрын
Your misinformed. I have an Arcimoto and my experience shows me how Aptera is an order of magnitude higher in engineering than a FUV, and that Aptera will avoid the mistakes Arcimoto has made. Delta prototype is now the Production Intent Build and will soon be ready for validation, with Accelerator deliveries by next year.

So they have 2000 investors who can receive their Aptera's first. Those are ones who have effectively given the money to Aptera. However, they have many reservation holders with no substantial amount given to Aptera. It seems that a non-contractual questionnaire may find that Aptera could start giving place-in-line starting at 2001 to those who are willing and able to pre-order with an unrefundable cost in full. There may be some reservation holders who would opt in but I think they may find more from the fleet companies. Those companies are ones who cannot invest directly but may be able to commit a substantial amount. I guess that is the crowd funding model. $50 million only requires 1,250 non-refundable, full price pre-orders.

Investors are awash with money. The amount is actually not very big. Aptera is unwilling to provide the equity position necessary to secure the funding. The potential investors will behave like vultures circling prey and will pounce to grab the the prize according to their requirements. Depends on how stubborn Aptera wants to be defending equity. At this moment Aptera is not for sale.

@@phiiz3r Yes, but money never comes without strings attached. Do you think anyone will loan 50 million on good faith? No collateral? Unknown value of equity? That's just not how business works. It's more likely how much equity 50 million BUYS. I suspect potential funders expect a whole lot more than Aptera is willing to give. I suspect the folks with money to bailout Aptera will wait until it's circling the drain.

If you don't have to haul lots of heavy cargo around all the time, why would you want to spend several times the amount for the energy to go a given distance compared to Aptera. Pay attention to the Aptera crash test results when they come out. I think you will be surprised.

I was going to invest into Aptera, but did not due to it making large design compromises to save a dollar a day compared to a Tesla. I pay 2 cents per km and drive 50 km per day in a Tesla. If an Aptera would get all of it's energy from the panels (which it will not), I would save a dollar per day, but would have a 2 seater, small luggage space, less safe and funny looking car that requires a motorcycle license,.and limits your side vision with the split window design. We already have high efficiency vehicles, it's called an EV. If you want free energy, get solar panels on your roof. I wish them well, but would rather stick to something more conventional.

I'm curious how these things make sense in urban environments that are becoming more and more dangerous. How hard is it to lift and tip over? What about repairs? If it gets damaged, how much will it cost to fix? Who will do the work? How expensive will it be to replace that glass after a standard break in? You'd also be on the road with increasingly heavier/larger EVs. What does it look like when this thing gets hit by a Model Y? I don't think folks are thinking this through.
@chrisbarrett2512 Жыл бұрын
Crash testing will occur, (even though unnecessary under the regulations) with carbon fiber panels, only 6 total, replacing one should not be a huge problem. The company has chosen to make this a right to repair vehicle, so who is going to repair is up to the owner, as Aptera will send parts and schematics directly to the owner, and anyone can do the fixing. It has been designed to be well balanced and flipping it over would not be an easy thing to do. I refer you to the moose test with the beta version, passing the moose test, over a year ago. Break in can occur anywhere, insurance will be cheaper than a 4-wheel car. I completely disagree with idea that this has not been thought through, my opinion is that they have done as much to think it through as anyone has ever done.
@tygorton Жыл бұрын
We'll see. Saying people have a right to repair doesn't mean shops will want to work on them, or how much they might charge to do so. These are highly custom vehicles. Repair cost silliness is revealing itself all over the EV sector. So forgive me for being skeptical... but NOBODY knows what it will cost to fix one of these until they start hitting the real world. Regarding insurance, where are you getting your info that it will be "cheaper" than a 4 wheel car? People in the UK are paying upwards of $6,000 a year to insure EVs. Insurance companies don't know what will happen with these vehicles, do they? They are in the blind on them due to lack of real world data. So maybe let's not make up stories about how cheap the insurance will be until they've been on the road for a couple years.
@paulrybarczyk5013 Жыл бұрын
@@tygorton Aptera has stated that if a part gets broken or damaged, you can order a replacement from them, then they will ship it with instructions on how to replace it. Only basic tools are needed. The simplicity of Aptera’s design makes that viable, unlike for most other vehicles.
@DemaGeek Жыл бұрын
@@tygorton Checked with State Farm over a year ago and they confirmed Aptera to be in the Autocycle/Motorcycle category, that it would be no problem to insure, and to expect the cost to be similar to that of the Can-Am Spyder, which we pay $300 per year for.
@tygorton Жыл бұрын
Nice, hope it holds. The insurance companies won't really know until the vehicle is in the real world for a couple of years. Nobody can predict everything that may cause expensive problems on a design like this until it is put to the test. But if simple repairs prove costly OR if they become targets of crime for whatever reason, insurance could quickly become an issue. I just want people to go into something like this fully aware of the blind spots.@@DemaGeek

The ones who equate 3 wheels with scams are the ones who are not doing due diligence. Yes, Elio and the Dale were scams. We can point to many that are not. Any one who follows the Aptera founders knows that they have multiple successful startups under their belt. The last company Chris Anthony co-founded he took public as CEO - hardly the record of a scammer.
