$3400 is a steal for this truck especially considering you're willing and capable of doing all the repairs yourself. Seeing the clean interior, new-ish batteries, and all the fluids at the correct levels are promising signs about how it was maintained. This truck is definitely worthy of being saved. You could replace every single part on this truck and the cost wouldn't even come close to that of a new 2wd base model 1500 gasser let alone a crew cab 2500 with a diesel and 4wd. Plus its more reliable and way cheaper to fix than a new truck. IMO Chevy already hit their peak with these early 2000's pickups. As you said these trucks hit a sweet spot between being modern enough to be comfortable and powerful, while still being reliable, simple to repair, and not loaded with tons of BS electronics and emissions garbage. I just don't see Chevy ever topping this generation of pickups.

That is a stock driveshaft, fuel cooler and fuel lines tend to rust and leak. Looks like most of the brake lines were replaced, that’s good. Stock tie rods are undersized and likely worn out, will likely need an upgrade to a stronger aftermarket along with the pitman arm. Also the intermediate steering shaft most likely makes clunky sound, replace with newer design. My 2005 is going strong, congrats Waldo!

Waldo, Ill be following this build closely. I have a 99 sierra sle z71 4x4. It is a single cab short bed fleetside truck. Im only the 2nd owner. It has 150, 000 miles on the ls4.8. The rockers are gone and the wheel arches are shot. One frame rail has some rust through. I picked up a rust free Texas bed for it very reasonably. One of the fuel lines along the frame has started to leak. So ive purchased all new fuel fuel lines and stainless steel brake lines from inline tube. They are high quality and vry affordable. Since youll have your bed off anyway, you might consider them. Im having the frame media blasted and repaired before I coat it liberally with por15. Looking forward to your progress

There is one reason not to live in Utah: You must have a car salesman or recycler license in order to participate in a Copart auction. My truck was stolen back in February and then recovered 2 months later. The Insurance company paid me for the loss. I decided to buy back the truck and found out that I could not do so as I was not "properly licensed". I can repurchase it if I go through a broker, but the charge to do so cost too much. In case you were wondering that law was passed when there were 3 Automobile dealers in the legislature. Payola still rules.
@WaldosWorld3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's the case in most states. I had to use a broker for this purchase. Talk about a middleman that adds cost, but no value. It's a load of protectionist bullcrap

Just ticked over 300k in my lly. There is a recall on the intake horn. It was narrowed from the factory and can lead to overheating(the main reason these trucks have a reputation for bad head gaskets) If you don’t have the upgraded one, get the one from s&b. (While your at it, a full cold air intake is definitely worth the investment) Other than that, upgrade the exhaust and keep an eye on the fuel filter mount. They like to go bad and leak air into the system. With that rust, his truck only has a few years left in it. However, if you find another vehicle you want to swap an engine into, there are companies that make kits to duramax swap.

Well, I'm sure I could but without a lift some stuff is just too big of a hassle. I've yet to determine how I feel about them yet. Kind of still to be determined, but they definitely have some type of ego driven attitude, like "we're so busy and so good we don't need your business, so if you don't like what's going on you can go somewhere else" type deal. At least that's the way it seems. They never used those words with me. h However the 1st time I had a complaint, the guy on the phone told me if "I'm going to swear I can just come get my keys". This is after spending over 25,000 at their shop. On warranty parts that I have to go through them to have the warranty made good on. Interesting! My blue GMC is an '04 5.3 Vortec and it has a steel driveshaft 🤷♂️

Blow it all apart and powder coat the frame and suspension. Great deal by the way.

You know, I'm tempted to get the frame hot dip galvanized. For now, fluid film is going to have to do

If you want it louder but still quiet in cab. I would just take the muffler off and straight pipe it. That is what I did with my Duramax.

Needs tow mirrors. Good buy tho. I want a duramax one day

I agree new trucks cost so much. I have a 2001 GMC Yukon with 228k miles knock on wood other than needing a new radiator and fuel lines it's very dependable. I look forward to seeing what you do with this

Very nice truck Waldo! I can't believe all the rust it has! God bless!
@WaldosWorld3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That amount of rust is totally normal for my area. I'm happy it doesn't have MORE rust 😂

Can’t wait to see the flatbed I’ve been thinking of getting one my self . I have a 04 Lb7 6.5 short box 147500 miles

Brandon is going to be a great build. I think an aluminum skirted flatbed would look great and give you at least 2 small toolboxes. For the vibration also check exhaust mounts and make sure no baffles are broken in the muffler. They can give bad vibration also. Love your The Office shirt. Very cool. I hope Aspen likes her new ride. If you ever need awesome snow tires for that check Bridgestone Blizzak tires.

Hey Pete, thanks for the tip! I'm sure Aspen will love her new truck 😂

@Waldo's World Check the drivers engine mount they tend to tear rubber off the steel from the torque. Some have throughbolted to limit some of that. Some claim huge decrease in vibration from a fluid crank damper. The control arm bushings are probably splitting rubber by now. And get an EFILIVE tune for better operation etc
