I'm a 70 year old mechanically clueless woman and I've learned more from this guy in two days of binging videos than in the whole rest of my life combined. But the more I watch, the more I want to never ride in anything more complicated than a bicycle; the complexity of these machines is scary... it's amazing you could have any issues with it at all and still traveled 3000 miles in it first thing.

OK a bit slow on the uptake but just discovered this vid. And it was thoroughly enjoyable so a definite yes if you're still looking for feedback regarding more roadtrip-style vids! The Discovery 3 input also interesting. Brother has a Disc 4 with 5L engine. No major issues to date cept with petrol stations. Fill the tank, step on the accelerator and watch the fuel gauge needle veer towards empty! Exaggeration but that thing loves petrol...

I like the idea of u saying in case in the future i did this or that. I ran my own mechanical company for years, and I always did things this way. My favorite thing to find on a job is some Idiot would put shower valves on outside walls, even better when on outside wall with marble walls and brick siding.😂😂 this always made customers shocked when they see the estimate. Was even funnier when the homeowner was the one who wanted it that way to begin with. 🤣 do your homework, always think ahead. Thanks for sharing, tho. Love the detail some ppl need that. Lol

I still have my US Army generator license. Ours took mogas. It was 1.5Khz and used to power RATT vans for AM Commo.

How can you be so good at fixing cars but not know spark plugs? Iridium plugs last indefinitely but cost a ton. Platinum plugs last 100k miles and cost about 5 bucks each. From a cost benefit analysis standpoint Platinum wins by a mile.

23:00 this is the case with so many things all the time, but as stupid as it seems you have to do it, if there is any reason for a safety inspector to complain... They will find it. Not their fault either, but it is funny it is "red tape" in this case. I feel the same when we have to put red and white hazard tape around our drilling sites in the absolute middle of nowhwhere :D

This is why I love high end british cars. The styling and interior are way better than german or italian designs. The only problems they have are penny pinching on the engine designs

If you can put a breaker on the utility feed panel, put a light on the wall to show power in from the utilities. gee, is it back on yet? 😊 26:12

You can use Red Dye Diesel fuel for off-highway and they make winterized or you can add additives for winterizing your fuel. 11:03

I love your philosophy of acquiring luxury vehicles for a song and rebuilding them. Someone else has taken the catastrophic depreciation hit and you get the buttery leather and burled walnut for the price of a Lada. I love your videos. Please pour a concrete floor for your shop - LOL.

I did the same thing. But with the OG old school gear. Cost like 100 bucks for both a manual tire breaker/mounter and a bubble balancer. Basically 1 set of mountes tires. Works great. Ive been doing string alignments on race cars for years and years too. Dont need $20k car lift sized machines

Really interesting and cool video to watch. Can you do a text post or shorter video about how much research you had to do beforehand and during? Figuring out the right generator, how to do all the filter/fluid changes, all the wiring, etc. You make it look too easy, ha!

I appreciate your input but I am still intending to get a propane generator for one good reason: Fuel source We heat our home with lng/propane and if I can avoid worrying about keeping diesel shelf stable and in good condition then that's good. Just need to pipe it into the tank that we already fill up many times a year and I know we have enough power available.

I think I would have placed it on a sturdy rubber mat. To decouple it from the base. And probably made a little deep foundation with two times 4-5 concrete filled hollow concrete bricks. Around 1m deep (depending on your geo location and frost intensity) to get below frost level. It would avoid settling of the base plate. I think the vibration of the generator could speed up settling quite a bit. And in addition, the rubber would help to mitigate a bit of the noise.

Sounds way too expensive to power a house with diesel only, but a great backup solution for times when there is not enough power coming from solar and wind? Certainly a magnitude cheaper at least than a big enough block of batteries? And, it might be worth the effort to harvest excess heat from the generator to help with heating the house. Combined heat and power plants exist, but not sure if they build them small enough, the smallest I know about would be for providing electricity and winter heating for 4 family homes.

With propane you need delivery, if there’s been a storm a truck might not be able to get to you , diesel can be stored in a metal drum and hand cranked into the generator , diesel is safer than propane to store

NOTE: Remove wheel weights before breaking the bead of the tire. Especially on Aluminum wheels. This helps prevent damage to the rim and finish of the rim. The tire itself is what causes the wheel to be unbalanced, so the wheel weights will always end up in a different position than they were when the old tire was mounted to the rim.
