How much did it cost to own an SL500 for one year!?

$17,000 for the car, $480 for rear tires, $150 for floor mats, $340 for hydraulic repair, $1588 for coil overs. This doesn’t count fuel or insurance and I also have an extended warranty for engine and tranny repairs. But for one year for a car like this I feel it’s very good.

This car is amazing to drive. The key is finding the right one. Preferably a 2007 or later. One that has been garage kept. R230’s don’t like a lot of water. All the electronics inside the trunk (behind the lining) that can be damaged by rain if the rear seals below the rear windows are brittle from sunlight. Also, at this point this is a classic-not a daily driver. Daily wear and tear WILL put it on jack stands often. Here is what I spent immediately after buying it in May 2020 as maintenance. Driven 3,000 miles since. 1. Engine Mounts $700 2. Flush hydraulic fluid. Replace rear Accumulator $820 3. Rear Tires $500 4. Camber bolts and rear alignment $160

I owned a 2001 one the suspension is very bad, had multiple electronics problem, quarter window got stuck and I couldn’t lower the roof, mine was with 20 inch wheels so it was a bumpy ride lmao. The engine is bulletproof tho but with all these problems I was forced to sell it. Now I drive a new AWD V6 Challenger it’s more comfy and faster than the Benz.

I spent like 1000-1250 dollars first year of ownership includes window switch replacement, blinker mirror light replacement, vehicle diagnostic oil change grill change lowering links new rotors and pads trunk lip air intake interior Lighting, TCU upgrade. Blue tooth adapter. No issues with roof or suspension and I have a 2003 thank God knock on wood Nice mats l! I’ve been meaning to get those! Getting a weistec ECU and pedal commander soon. Followed by some shiny new shoes

pretty much the engine and transmission are bulletproof! what you have to worry about is the suspension! I was curious what did you repair the struts with arnott or rmt or some other remanufactured strut manufacture?

It rides smoother IMO but I kind of missed the adjustable suspension at times. Resale wasn’t any different and might have been better cause the worry of replacing $10,000 worth of shocks kind of draws people away.

The car is very easy to drive but repair bills can be high if you aren’t familiar with fixing stuff yourself. Personally I love the car and how comfortable it is.

Can you please tell me where you purchased your coil over conversion struts from? When you installed them, how did you get rid of the red ABC light in the dash since you converted the system? Thank you in advance.

Hello I bought my kit from Strutmasters, the kit for the SL500 will include an electronic box that eliminates the red light. Overall installation is pretty easy.

@@fanvette Thank you for your swift response. I actually have 2 sl500s. Both of them have issues with the ABC system. I've put thousands into these cars suspensions and I'm can't afford it anymore. I was getting mixed reviews about the conversion kits, and how the car would ride, but in your opinion it was the best move, right?
