When I purchased my 06 CS 987.1 it was an agreement with my wife I did most of the maintenance. Oil changes are easy...1 screw. My daughters VW Jetta has 14 or more screws. Breaks are easy. The belts, tensioners, and pullies take some work but can be done by someone with no experience in 3-4 hours easy. Overall the maintenance is way less expensive then the BWM 325i E46 I replaced because I had the shop do all the BMW maintenance. I have had mine almost 4 years now and love it. Don't get cheap tires... you will regret it.

I've had my 2011 987.2 S since 2017. Acquired with 55,000 miles and just crossed 90k. No major mechanical problems or quality issues. Just a couple of random things like a solenoid issue that caused a high pitched whining noise emanating through the side vents. Other than that, I've stuck with the prescribed service intervals/standard upkeep like oil, brakes etc. and have had minimal problems. By far the best and most reliable car I've ever owned. This might have been the catalyst to finally get the wrap and refresh I've been wanting. Dark green with gunmetal wheels.

I have had apple car play installed and front and rear cameras, like you I love the car. I love the colour of the wrap and the slightly lowered suspension. Just out of interest the local Porsche dealer here in south east Queensland ( Australia) told me that due to massive production cut backs in 2009 due to the GFC the 987.2 Cayman is in short supply and accordingly is a good “keeper”.

I have a 2012 base Cayman, coming up to 2 years ownership in October, and I feel for the price you had to pay for maintenance and cosmetics. The most expensive part for me being the wheels, the same Turbo wheels you have, except I got mine powder coated black. Got a red and black colour scheme going on with my car, and the black accents absolutely gives the car a more sport-y and serious appearance, so it's a must for me. But like you said at the end of the video, it's all worth it, and is still the best car i've ever owned and driven soo far, and look to keep mine for a long time yet ❤

@RossCuth Жыл бұрын
@@themiddlelanelm It's actually a pretty minimal spec. It's got heated seats and a manual, but nothing that really adds or changes performance, no sport button, PASM, sports exhaust etc. In retrospect, I maybe should've waited and saved abit more money to get a Cayman with just abit more to it's spec. But that doesn't mean I regret buying the car I have now. It's still fun as hell, it's drives great, I can use it as a daily whilst still having that fun factor. And quite frankly, if I REALLY want to add those extra options i.e a sports exhaust, there's plenty of options. But even then, i'm not in a rush. It's still by far the best car i've had.

I have been considering selling my 2008 AP2 S2000 for a while in order to try and get into a 987.2 Boxster/Cayman S... I think you've convinced me to keep my S2000 lol. I've owned it for the past 5 years, which, admittedly, I only drive it about ~2000 miles a year (it's currently at 65k miles), but even with a full season of SCCA autocross, the comparison in maintenance costs (especially when reading through the comments) is staggering. In 5 years with my AP2 S2000, including a full season of SCCA C-Street (where I trophied for the season- translation: the car wasn't exactly babied), the only "failure" I've experienced is a sticky clutch about ~4 years ago. I spent about ~$20 on fluid, bled the clutch (only takes a few minutes), and viola, it never stuck again. I also had a bad gas cap 2-3 years ago that cost me $30. Essentially, in 5 years of ownership, driving the car hard (sometimes in competition), it's literally only cost me $50 in repairs. To be clear, I've spent a lot more than that on preventative maintenance- oil changes (changed annually), transmission fluid, diff fluid, filters, spark plugs (they weren't really needed, but I'm pretty OCD about "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure"), flushed the coolant (again, not needed, but cheap and easy), brake fluid, etc. I even did a preventative maintenance valve adjustment (only recommended once every ~100k miles or so- but only takes a couple of hours with some feeler gauges), so I had to buy a new valve cover gasket (still relatively cheap). I used only OEM Honda or high quality fluids/parts and I did all the work myself (these cars are stupid easy to work on/service). Last I checked, I've spent a total of $494 in maintenance and repairs in the past 5 years, so roughly ~$100/year.. I also spent an additional $75 in Dr ColorChip touch-up paint (damn rock chips!), so I supposed that could be added to the cost of repairs. To be fair, I'm not counting the cost of modifications (there aren't many) or track/competition related wheels/tires. What I've learned about myself after watching this video is: I think I might be too much of a cheap bastard to own a Porsche.

Those crazy Porsche-Taxes are just insane for doing a poor job on the car as any suspect backstreet garage can do as well but for the half the price. Or when you have some mechanic skill, do it youself and save the money! I agree, the parts are still expensive, but don't have pay the overpriced mechanic, which taxes you for 10 minutes of work about 150 bucks is just satifiying me. The one and only reason a Porsche goes to official garage is because warranty and free service.
