How much an athlete gets paid isn't about respect, it's about how much money their sport generates. Paying sprinters as much as football players is a lovely idea, but where is that money coming from? There aren't multi-billion dollar broadcasting deals for athletics, they aren't filling out 80 thousand seat stadiums every single weekend for people to watch athletics. The reality is, most people only watch athletics when the Olympics of World Championships is on. It simply doesn't generate enough money for these guys to get paid as much as football players.

Athletes should also focus on Branding themselves and telling their STORY more. This would help them build a community that they can then monetize with Merch and affiliate deals etc. Its just the nature of the times where we all have to find our niche Athletes have a lot going for them as far as building a personal brand, and a global email list that can then be monetized to help support their journey. I see no reason Jamaican athletes shouldn't be selling sea moss, soursop leaves, black castor oil etc. with a simple shopify store, social media accounts, and a Marcus Garvey self-reliance state of Mind. @@humanstation8193 Fair points indeed. I agree that everyone can't be Shacarri so then what else can we do? Just like one would have an attorney to look over contracts, one should have a social media marketing and brand building strategy. Start with a small agency, maybe a family member or friend and reinvest in building the Brand as you grow and make money. This is really up to the creativity and hunger of the individuals involved. You have to first want more and believe its possible. You can't force Ambition on people. Bless

It’s about your celebrity and ability to draw a crowd. They try to make track athletes too humble and have too much sportsmanship. Let them talk trash leading up to events like boxers and build anticipation… if the times aren’t there that day the rivalry is… you might not get a record every meet, but seeing people trash talk before during and after the races would be something to see!

The most popular sport races are short on time and up to 4 minutes long. These races require that immediate or timed burst of energy, the race is near immediately over leaving only the avid satisfied. Sponsors risk-reward ratio never gives enuf trajectory exponentially that lifts the sport to the next $ level outside of the Olympic year; the sport valleys every 4 years. It's always been difficult for $ to follow the sport. Still my favorite sport!

That quarter of a million might be income through advertising, branding and sponsorship, if that's true then for each appearance Bolt could only get 20 thousand. I think the ticket prices were increased by 100% to 200%. 250k for Bolt appearing at an event during his peak years is a lot "cheaper" than what Michael Jordan could get today. A retire Michael Jordan brand is more expensive than Usain Bolt at his peak. This is weird to me . MJ retired in 2003, I heard through my local TV years ago it would cost $2 million to bring Michael Jordan to a show oversea, outside of plane and accommodation costs such as suite hotel and travel cost. I think Noah Lyles known about this that's why he "touch" the NBA about " World champion of what ! " I remember that North Korea wants to invite MJ but then they chose Dennis Rodman over Michael Jordan. It could be about the cost gap between Jordan and Rodman. Yeah ....Michael Jordan

More talk like this plz. Justin could you disclose what some of your appearance ranges were? And other "lane fillers"? At $350k for Bolt, I don't see how the math adds up for the meet director. Take tomorrow's Stockholm Diamond League for example: Tickets are avg $50usd. Capacity is 15,000. That's $750k topline revenue if they sellout. Plus broadcast rights which aren't much more. If you're dumping $350k into 1 athlete... You haven't paid any flights or hotels for any of the other 110+ athletes. Let alone their appearance fees. You haven't paid their $300k prize purse. Stadium rental. Event staff. Marketing. That's a losing equation from a meet standpoint....

At Rome Olympic Stadium holds 80,000 people they could only get 20,000 people to go easier but they pay Bolt €300,000 and 50,00 people turn up,the gate revenue was €2,000,000 million alone ,add TV rights and advertisements the meet organisers were actually saying BOLT was worth the money because advertisement money was even more than the ticket sales

I think Truck and Phil at least should pay more but if you win the gold the Olympic gold I think your appearance fee should be more because you have a gold medal beside your name, but I don’t think everyone should get the same amount of money. Remember you went to Med and you come to a track and field race you gonna draw more fans to the game so that’s more money right there like you Balt should make more money but not everyone

This programme is essential for demystifying the sport. I've been a fan of Athletics (T&F) since a kid and it's always been hard to see the meets let alone find out about behind the scenes stuff. I pieces together this week's Diamond League thanks to KZbin. Even the Diamond League KZbin doesn't cover well enough. It's really embarrassing. Re. Michael Johnson, he's always been so cagey, aloof and uncommunicative when it REALLY MATTERS. Great pundit but does that translate to business? If you're not communicating your jazz and why it's better for athletes already then why are we gonna be interested 2 maths ahead of the Olympics??? Some serious questions have to be asked about who gets to say what . Gatlin is a 100m Gold Medal 🏅 and 🥈 Medal 100m legend and humble enough to put out the pertinent questions. My comment is to support and provoke some questions that others may also be considering. Mainly how the hell we can SEE the sport LIVE and without having to spend hours on a computer. Best Regards
