I live in south Louisiana. ALL disc golf shots are on flat ground down here. My longest measured drive was 317 feet with a Latitude 64 Fury. 52 years old and only been playing one year. Yesterday I did get pin high on a 640 foot hole in two with the Fury off the tee and a Daedalus second shot. I was surprised how far the second shot went especially since it never got above head high.

I'm 42 and i can get over 400 but it's not worth the torn groin or oblique I may get throwing my hardest now 😅. 350-375 is where I feel good throwing a 9 speed too and there's nothing wrong with that. I've torn both the groin and oblique both at 40 so nowadays I don't test the body limits and the recovery is rough over 40

People get chuckles from me writing on my discs, but there's a lot of variables to remember. For a given disc I have average standstill distance, one step distance, x-step distance, and full runup distance. For my backhand I just have standstill and "runup" distances. For all those shots they are slight forceovers. For example, with a pathfinder 5, 5,-1, 1 I have 150, 200, 275, 320 This way when I rangefind I choose a disc and a runup and I should get the distance right. I prefer a regular x-step for the best timing and distance with average power but you may not have that in the woods or wherever your lay is. I love what you're doing, I hope your channel grows like crazy, starting with my Sub today!

I went to a disc golf shop that had one of those sensors on the disc that measures your speed, spin, wobble, etc. To me that is more accurate about throwing abilities than distance.

I don’t. if you can’t make a disc actually fly as far as the numbers seen on a tech disc it doesn’t matter. Same thing as exit velo in baseball, highest velo hits are usually low line-drives or ground balls.

I have two personal best throws of 500 but I wouldn't say that is my max distance at all, more so my "potential max distance when I do everything right", which is rare. I can hit my max of 425 with relative ease with both Fairways and Drivers but even then I live in a community where max distance doesn't make you competitive unless you have the finesse and mental capabilities to compete. I think it's good to be able to know your current strengths distance wise, but there is so much more to the game than having a big arm such as putting, shot creativity, finesse, etc. You have to practice in every area of your game to be good, let alone great. Focusing only on distance is what set me back and now that I practice on the other areas of the game on the regular, I have gotten so much better. Just my opinion/experience during my first 2 years playing.

can relate to the closing statement. being in charlotte weve gotta keep most shots low 90% of the time, so you really have to focus on throwing golf shots so hitting 400 feet is pretty impressive at courses like nevin and hornets nest. This leaves us in a position where most players arent throwing full power or high enough to stretch out max distance lines

Awesome way to do this. I’ve done a lot of field work with rangefinder and UDisc distances but the way you organize the data here gives a touch point for you. Is it comparable between people? No because discs, air density, etc. are different. But this is a semi-repeatable way for an individual to range out what they can really do on a course and how that changes over time. I can imagine this significantly increase confidence in disc and shot selection on the course which will reduce mental load in the round. Additionally, my guess is next time you play, you’ll be more likely to be satisfied with a “stock” shot instead of letting ego get into shot and power selection. Powerful video here! Gave me the feeling of “I have to get out there and do this for myself”.

320’ cheating with the Mamba. A few other discs I’ve gotten to break 300’ also but 320’ is the max. I’m almost positive i will throw 350-400 next time I hit the practice field because I was laying in bed thinking about form and going over the movements in my mind when I decided to get up and practice my swing to test this new movement. Well it worked so well I could feel the additional power and whip, then recorded myself so I wouldn’t forget what I figured out, while trying not to wake up my wife who was fast asleep in bed a few feet away. But the next day my shoulder started feeling sore. Today it’s even more sore. I really shouldn’t have practiced my swing without a towel or something but I did and now my arm is going to fall off because this change in my form made a massive increase in power. Edit: nope, didn’t work. Still need to build the neuropathways which will allow my body to put all the different individual parts into a single, fluid throw

I know that there's some back and forth on whether hyzer flips or the big arching anhyzer line is optimal for max distance. I found for me, throwing something a little less stable (broken in DD Raider) that I can flip just past flat while also focusing on getting more RPM on my throw to generate more inertia so it holds that angle longer is what really got me to break 450 consistently. Usually for that anhyzer line the pros are throwing overstable discs, and I think us non-pros typically lack the technique and power required to get an overstable disc to hold that big anyhyzer line high up that they throw.

It's definitely something worth doing for people. Pro Golfers (ball not disc) do a lot of range testing on each club so when they get out on the course they know exactly what range each club gives them with different levels of effort. Highly recommend people do that if they want to take disc golf seriously. Experiment a lot with every disc you have. Vary the angles, vary the effort and do each variation multiple times to get a good feel of what the real numbers are and how it will fly so you always have the best disc in whatever situation you are in.

Trevor, I think you would throw cleaner/further if you kept the disc/pull through a little lower and focused on reaching out and not back. Before watching this video I was watching Simon Lizotte's form video on Power Disc Golf Academy and he speaks to very specifically that problem. I'm saying this specifically about the putter throws when writing this after watching a throw back at .25 speed.
@BillFromAZ
@BillFromAZ 11 ай бұрын
for distance, it would have been nice to see you throw the same disc anny, flat, and hyzer. For examples, the putters - a Slammer is 3 speed 2 glide and the Judge is 2 speed 4 glide. So there's a difference in how they will fly....so they really aren't comparable. Still nice to see the distances. I'm 64, playing since 2019, 650ish rated (I'm not consistent enough) and get 200 feet (rangefinder distance) with my MVP Watt (2 speed 5 glide), 250 with my Axiom Hex (5 speed 5 glide), I get my 7 speeds around 265 and then the higher speeds don't get a lot more distance. The furthest I've gotten is 302 feet with a 139 gram Innova Star Tern (no wind). I've been speed checked having a max throw of 45 MPH, so anything over a 7 speed for me has to be lightweight or I'm not getting it to do what the brand designed it for.

I’m 35 yrs old. Started playing May 2022 . Before a couple weeks ago I could barely hit 300 with any disc. My Envy, Hex, and Crave all went 250’. I had a friend help with run up timing and form and immediately increased my distance 50-75’ for all of my ranges. Between playing rounds and field work these are my current averages: Throwing Putter: 250-270’ Envy/Proxy Main Midrange: 290-320’ Hex Fairway Drive: 300-330’ Crave/Valkyrie Distance Driver: 320-350’ Grace/Wave My max distance is 379’ with a flippy Rhythm and a PERFECTLY timed and powered throw with a Rive that carried to 374’. Before last month I couldn’t hit 250’ with a Rive on backhand. Two of the guys I play with can bomb mids 350-400 ft. So it’s hard to compare myself to others when playing rounds. Anyone mid 30s and younger player that can compare to my distances?

Im not sure how my distances space out from mold to mold but I have measured my max distances using an Atlus Range Finder. My backhand, in 6 years of playing, is only fast enough to throw up to an 11 speed and can reach about 325. My forehand, which I just learned how to throw, max distance was 400 with a 22 Ezra Aderhold Nuke. Videoing myself, my forehand comes out more nose down and my backhand comes out slightly nose up. My timing is terrible with my backhand and I have a bad rounding issue.

Good video. I think Barela's stock driver would still be over 500 because he's a freak, but I agree with your hypothesis anyway (that the stock to power gap will get even greater for big-arm pros) since I feel like with the right conditions (no wind/slight tailwind) Barela might be able to throw 800+ max. You have a good arm IMO. I'm 43 and have an average to slightly below average arm (IMO), I sit about 300 on a power fairway and 350-375 on a power distance driver.

Your technique looks so much better than one or two years ago, I’d say almost perfect in my eyes. 👍🏽 Could you do a video, where you talk about your progress in backhand technique (and the things that made you throw over 400 feet consistently, when going for max distance)?

Good stuff Trev! You get some good distance. Question for you: people always say that with a tail wind you get more distance. For me to get more distance with a tail wind I have to go super light and super flippy, or use a putter. With my normal full weight distance drivers if I have a little left to right wind, even a wind blowing at about 10 o’clock, helps keep the disc from fading for longer giving me max distance. I have achieved 405 ft twice with that left to right wind assist with a star Colossus (which I lost at Usdgc) 😑what disc do you suggest for max distance with a tail wind? I’m still wanting to find a disc that will get me more distance, wind or not. Do you have a specific disc you use for tail wind shots? Thanks.

I have to go and do that, I did it once and it was max effort and not very helpful. This could be something I really could use. Thanks Trevor... Question when you're on the field do you measure the distance to where you want to throw and then know that at that disctance I will use this or that disc on this or that shot?

Seems like we are at a very similar point. Although I focus on Max distance probably way more than Trevor. Max is 480 typically. Next year when it warms up I’m hoping for the 500. Also distance drivers go much much farther than the normal increments between putter midrange fairway

Curious what your max distance for forehand is. I feel backwards compared to most. My max distance is always come from forehand.

I have not done this but am very interested to see where I’m at. Furthest throw I’ve had is 470’ downhill and 445’ flat. But be curious to see my stock shots. Thanks for the content good sir 🫡

No clue, playing 30 years and never thought about it but I know I throw probably 100 ft less than when I was younger

Yo trev on the forehand try to keep your elbow closer to your body , most of the spin should come from hips and wrist simultaneously, you should never feel like you are “throwing “ it

I throw about 430-460 consistently on backhand flat ground and 380-420 forehand .

I am almost exclusively forehand thrower and I find that I don't really have a "stock" throw, or maybe my stock throw is just my max throw. I think that's probably because of the extra control you get with FH that allows you to crank it out there without fear of any drawbacks like early release. I'm only hitting about 340 in a flat park on a perfect throw though so maybe someone with more arm strength has a different experience.

If you really truly wanna keep improving your distance, never stop trying to improve, keep learning new things, and implement them in your throws to see if it works for you and adds any distance to your previous throws 👍🏻 You don’t haft to take my word for it just friendly advice but I was just like you once but I just kept practicing and learning new things and now my biggest drive is over 500 ft (didn’t happen overnight it took a couple years to get to this point for me)

I was stuck at like 250-300 for such a long time, the thing that finally clicked for me and bumped my drives up to that 350-400 range was a combination of really establishing consistency in footwork, and learning to put anhyzer on the disc. I'm definitely no pro and am not the guy to go to for advice on it and everything, but I feel like once youre able to get a high speed overstable disc to fly straight or with a slight S curve, you're going the right direction (for me it was a champion Orc). P.S. Focusing on reaching and bringing your arm all the way back is very helpful
