As much as all the Topp companies' salaries are enticing, I think I'm still gonna go with an audit firm 1. Because i dont wanna be at a disadvantage when the APC comes 2. Long term, when I'm looking for permanent employment, i feel like i would have an edge over someone who worked for a Topp whose knowledgeable and exposure wouldnt be as broad as mine. I feel like audit firms expose you to different industries and company types etc

I definitely hear you. I feel like if you know exactly what you want to specialize in then go for Topp, if you're unsure or want to be in Audit after doing articles then stay with Tipp. That's why I say look at your long term goals, as in after training articles.

BTW with the TIPP and TOPP thing can you switch like maybe if you feel like you not satisfied in one or is it a permanent decision

You can switch but SAICA will give you a 6 month penalty for switching. So if you have a training contract for 3 years it will then be 3 years 6 months once you swap.

Hi, it's definitely not a silly question. Articles are basically a 3 year training work contract where you train as an external junior auditor dependant on what route you took. You need to complete the 3 years training work to officially qualify as a CA(SA).

Don't be depressed there are so many opportunities for Bcom students too. SAICA isn't the queen B. Also you can still do a bridging with a Bcom degree.

@@nomondeskhosana552 BAccSci is an Accounting degree that is SAICA accredited meaning that you're studying to be a CA(SA) Chartered Accountant. Where as Bcom accounting isn't SAICA accredited meaning you can't be or go into the chartered accounting route unless you bridge into the SAICA route which is an extra year. Its seen as more of a general accounting and isn't as hard as BAccSci.

Btw I've been browsing through the internet n searching for saica article jobs just out of curiosity. I saw that most of them in the requirements it states valid driver's license and OWN CAR...
