@@therealjpoe23 why is it personal? What does how much you make say about you as a person? Quite the opposite - if you and I are doing the same job and I'm making more than you, I want you to go to our boss and demand a raise because you're getting hosed.

I worked in a UPS warehouse for 2 years and let me tell you, coming from construction, it was the most physically demanding job I’ve ever had. The craziest part is you would expect like a bunch of young guys to be there but nope almost everyone there is like 40/50 or older and still out working the young guys. I would always ask why they are still doing this and almost 100% of the time it’s because they wanted the benefits for their kids. Those were some real men.

Same, I was a pre loader for about a year and a half. I’d end up walking like 10+ miles during my shifts and there was a bunch of people in their 40’s-50’s that had been there for years. Craziest thing is that we’re in Phoenix, AZ and the warehouse isn’t air conditioned lol, just fans.

Its definitely a physically demanding job and a stressful one. I used to work in the warehouse as a sorter and the stress for a driver begins as soon as they walk in the door. Becoming a driver isnt as easy as some people think. You have to have a clean driving record, take a road test in the UPS truck, take and pass the physical and drug screen, and participate in zoom meetings online for 5 days where you complete different exercises from like 8am-4pm. After all that you have to go in and recite all the rules for lowering and lifting among other procedures and it has to be verbatim. The driver is correct, most warehouse employees are offered the first opportunity to become a driver, but its tricky. They have driver bid sheets you can sign, but its by senority so if you sign up to become a driver, and just about everyone who signed the sheet has more years than you, youre not going to be considered to become a driver.

My friend is a UPS driver. He was making $90K a year and didn’t reach the top level yet. It’s hard work though but good pay and great benefits.

As a former Amazon driver during the pandemic, definitely a lot more that what I made. We barely had benefits too yet they worked us even last night hours just to deliver whatever we had that day which always was more than what was physically possible in 8-10 hours

You have to start in the warehouse making like 13$/hr. (No, you can't live on that if it's your only income). Then you have to do that for like 2 years while constantly applying to be a driver. Since everyone wants to be a delivery driver. It's physically demanding. But the pay after the 4 years of doing it is worth it. $40/hr Unlike Amazon, Fedex and all the other delivery carriers, their pay all sucks because they hire through third party companies because it's cheaper for them. Amazon is the worst of them. If you want an alternative: USPS Mail Carriers starting pay is around 24-30/hr.

Also no air conditioning. Ya see the little fan. Amazon is worse they only need 51% blue prime vans per dsp. So they rent hertz vans for the 49% with no ac and no open doors.

He’s not saying that working is UPS is comparable to working at FED-Ex. Utterly hellish working experience Indeed, It may be 1 year, it may be 4-6+ depending on the opening and availability but it’s like entering the Promisedland after the grueling work of operating multiple trucks of inbound in building box 📦 walls for about by 4 hours a piece. It’s tough. I did not last; yet the time I did was enough for me to excel at the average warehouse job after that; especially Amazon. Amazon is comparatively easier than UPS.

I wonder how Los Angeles UPS drivers feel about working there. Everytime I'm on nearly any street in LA, it's traffic but ESPECIALLY ON Westlake Macarthur Park area is nasty traffic.

Sounds cool on face value, but I always believe that there's no such thing as an easy job, that pays well. You gotta factor in politics inside & out the workplace, and the actual job itself.
