The past 20 years it hasn't kept up with inflation. Counting these recent COLAs benefit increases are still 30% from where they should be, because after you review its history then you'll find the lost decade where on average COLA increase was Zero and it was already bad before that.

I was on SSDI then went back to work but due to my back injury and nerve damage I had to stop working again. During my time working I received letter stating I was overpaid over $60,000 which my never happened cause I reported i was working and had my checks stopped shortly after starting my work. When I reapplied I had to go thru appeal and they took all of the back pay that was supposed to be paid. I use to receive monthly statements showing what I put into social security before I was injured and they stated my input was significantly grossed at age 35 for entitlement, I'm now 59 and don't understand how they got i was paid once I had those payments stopped

I receive $1,017 monthly. I waited 5 years to receive it and on my second appeal I was approved. I only received 4 months back pay. I missed 5 years of employment and I only worked 3 months in the ten years that they came up with a figure. Not fair! Not ENOUGH TO LIVE ON. 😢

I'm not answering this so the govt can just decide how much to lower it by for the next 10 years lol

Ha - understand the discretion :). But the good news is that disability payments generally go *up* year over year. Since the 1970s, the SSA has implemented a "Cost of Living Adjustment" annually. There were three years on record where benefit payments stayed flat - but every other year, benefit recipients have seen their payments go up!
