Started in 91. Was young and addicted to saving and investing. In 97 the company offered us the option to invest in UPS stock. The IPO came around in late 99. The check came from the Cayman Islands. It cleared and I left the company. No regrets. You are owned as a full timer. OWNED! What happens to most of them is they get married, have puppies and buy the McMansion. I have stayed in contact with some of my coworkers from back in the day. If your going this rte, no pun intended. Do your time. Invest that cash. Live like a college kid, your never going to be home and when you hit a financial place bail the company and enjoy the rest of your life. Life is very short.

In the Holiday Season of 1983 , right after graduating from High School , I got a UPS job as a Christmas time driver's helper and made $8 per hr ...which was triple the min wage and worked 10-12 hr days. I met the Driver at the local Mall parking lot and worked appx 6-7 weeks. I was invited to work in the warehouse in 1984 loading trucks at night... and unloading trailer trucks part time on the night shift. It seems to me, from what you said, that if one wants a good job, and good pay (as a long-time worker), [ while sacrificing family time ], then you say UPS is the right company. Randy, thank you for sharing this breakdown of wages too. Under that pay scale you shared (1st year as an RCPD ) $43,000 is not much at ALL in today's world. Having Health Insurance IS an added benefit! Also, working 10 hours overtime brings your salary up to around $60,000, but that's BEFORE taxes. I wonder... is overtime asked, emphasized, or expected by managers? (maybe a single person that has time on their hands might agree to overtime opportunities/money). So, is that wage enough for some? Yes, but what if one has a family? Is that wage, along with spending time away from their families that love them, a good trade? On a personal level, No. After over 4 years for you, being a full-time worker, the average 40 hour a week paycheck for a year is over $86,000 AND you have health insurance! With overtime, it's much more. That sounds great for even me ! What I'm seeing is that new, reliable, hard working, full-time RCPD workers don't have a great wage, but have a great financial benefit coming to them in ONLY a quick few years, working FULL-TIME ! Knowing this, generally, what is the average time it will take for someone that is a part-time worker with UPS to get a Full-time hourly job with UPS? Can a worker who's full-time or part-time deny overtime opportunities without justified fear of retribution? Today, does UPS hire people full-time, or do they first have to agree to be part-time workers with them? ( I'm not talking about management salaried people). Maybe you answered these questions in previous videos. I'm new to your channel. Do you respond to comments? I will look at your previous posts as well. Thanks.

Now a UPS and FedEx driver can afford a Business Class ticket. And you only need a high school diploma. A major airline baggage handler could save up for a business class ticket. So many professions pay below minimum wage especially after paying student loans.

Depends on your supplement. Most areas you can't transfer, or you have to be "re-hired" except for the areas covered under the Western-Supplement. However as a part-timer you can transfer if you are pursuing a education.

I called the hall directly about this exactly and they told me I’d have to leave my current union and be re-hired at a different union; which, unfortunately, means you could not get hired and lose it completely. I would say have a backup plan setup first and then keep trying to get hired to become a drive again. All-in-all, risky business.

Seems good but you don't have time to enjoy it. Maybe if you get to retirement, but other wise that's rough. I drove railroad crews in between terminals and did that up to 60 hours a week just for 2 or 3 weeks and I thought it was going to kill me. Of course that was a 24 hour a day on call job. Maybe that contributed to wearing me down.

I drove for FedEx Ground and once you get injured you are screwed particularly once you get older. You will not be working 60 hours a week for UPS when you are over 50. It is a physically demanding job that wears you down and eventually breaks you. They don't pay ENOUGH for that. I was working on a new delivery system and they don't care if it makes it easier for drivers.

I did it for 9 years and bailed after the IPO. Went to Federal Express. The pay is not as good but in the early years it was a great company to work for. Today Fed Ex is imploding. Merging with minimum wage, no benefits Ground.
