Hi folks. I'm watching these videos as I'm thinking about moving BACK to Oz next year. I moved to Adelaide in 2009 and returned to the UK in 2017. I just wanted to say here that I also used True Blue migrant agents and they were superb. Even 2 years after moving when applying for citizenship, I needed some documents and they got them to me within the day and I wasn't even a customer of theirs anymore! Also when I moved back to the UK I used Seven Seas to bring some stuff back. They were also brilliant. Just my 2 cents if anyone is interested.

Moved here in 2006 from the UK exactly the same as you have All the visas blah blah.. Lots of money Lots of time and patience needed. 2 little kids and 4 suitcases, sold everything before we left the UK. No regrets... love it here and I'm just down the road from you in mango hill. Reach out of you need a hand with anything👍 Not knowing and loneliness was our biggest initial issue on arrival. Wouldn't give up Oz for the UK now if I got paid to.

Lived all my 70 years in Australia, except for work stints in Japan and the USA. I just had a tooth out and its raining so I binge watched your main videos. You did yeally well and all your costs and issues are spot on. Brisbane is a bit cheaper than Sydney or Melbourne for housing but the other costs are about the same. The one thing you might touch on are mediacl costs...eg. Medicare vs Private and maybe a comparison on teachers salaries here as opposed to the UK.

From moving the other way (from Oz to the UK) one of the most annoying things is your credit score doesn't follow you so getting a credit card can be difficult. The only way I have found to get around this is using American Express. American Express will give you a basic credit card in your new country if you have a good history with them from your home country. This will help to build your credit score in your new country and will help you to get you access to credit cards from other banks sooner.

Great channel, but it is Brisbane centric, not really Australia wide. Gas/Electric costs vary wildly depending on the state. Not having contents insurance can be high risk in certain areas of the country... we get bushfires, floods, cyclones etc Selling everything... I did the maths and found it was cheaper to ship most stuff like beds, sofa etc, rather than selling and re-buying. Advertising a migrant agent... yet most offer free initial consultation and it’s fairly straightforward for most online via the immigration site... you can save $000’s on that alone. Other stuff not mentioned was school fees depending on the area, plus private health insurance for higher wage earners... Hope this helps...

The “third party insurance” in the rego only covers if you injury someone. Will not cover another car, so you still need to at least get third party insurance at least fire and theft on a cheap car because if you crash into another car could have massive costs. I’ve just been going through a claim against someone who hit me nearly 3 years ago and injured me.

Thanks for the videos. Maybe not something for the first weeks/months in Australia, but I wonder if you are considering private medical insurance. There are significant tax implications/penalties if you do not have it (even though you pay the Medicare Levy) and it gets even more expensive the longer you leave it. Medicare also does not normally provide dental services for adults at least. In my first 25 years in the UK nobody in my circle of friends and family had private medical insurance. It was for rich people and was viewed by us as "queue jumping" the NHS. I was surprised in coming to Australia how comparatively common it was and that it was viewed more positively as "reducing pressure on Medicare". Religious Groups often run private hospitals and Trade Unions like the Teacher's run their own private health cover schemes. I got so used to it and being able to time minor procedures for my convenience, I have asked for it from employers when I have been back working in the UK. PS make sure your kids look after their teeth well - even with a contribution from your private health fund dental treatment costs in Australia can be quite expensive. Many Aussies now go to places like Thailand for implants etc.
