In 1982, to go from Zero to Commerical Pilot was $21,000 that's like over $100,000 in todays money. Back then, restricted licence to allow you to carry passengers within the training area required 40 hours of training. Now it's fooking 20. I was robbed!

I’m pretty sure on an RPL you can also add “flight activity endorsements” which involves aerobatics and spin recovery. In addition to your class 1 and 2 med, you also have a Basic Class 2 which is basically your GP declaring you unconditionally can hold a drivers license. A basic class 2 allows you to carry pax, but no aerobatics permitted.

Appreciate it 🤙🏼. I know Sydney Flying Academy still offer it out of YSBK. Also Fly Illawarra at YSHL. I’m sure there would be some up the coast as well. But yes, it’s getting less and less. It probably has a lot to do with the way the lease holders at YSBK are taking the airport and killing off aviation with extremely high rental increases.

Just about no one has ever got their RPL with 20 hours of flying. The average is 35-45 and In reality, by the time you have got your ASIC card, bought your books, medical, bought your head set, sat your CASA exam and paid for your flight test, It's likely you would have spent 15-20K. The quickest and cheapest way to do it is, take off a Month and do it compressed, every day. Otherwise try to fly 3-4 times a week. An RPL is not considered to be much of a Licence. The good thing with them though is you have something for your training and you can use it prior to getting your PPL. It's also good experience understanding CASA exams before you sit your PPL exam.

I did it that way - rpc + nav and then convert it to rpl. If I would do it again and focus only on cost I would go straight to RPL, flying in c150 is very similar price to raaus school

Yeah I think at the end of the day either are going to be similar in price. Hand flying is more sensitive in LSA’s so I found them great for building those skills.

Hi Rahul, I would look for just “the cheapest”. I’d look for an instructor that you like flying with and that you can pass the flight lessons efficiently and with full understanding. That will end up “the cheapest” way in the long run even if the per hour cost is a more then others.

Hi, does any of this licensees allow you to flight overseas? Like in Europe or US? If not does Australia have an international small aircraft license ?
@SpruceMooseAviation
@SpruceMooseAviation Жыл бұрын
Hey, I’m not 100% sure on how the international licence conversions work. I do know that CASA licences are recognised internationally but you will still need to go through a licence conversion process to be able to fly in another country. It would also depend on which licence you want to convert. If it’s a private licence then I believe it’s easier then converting a CPL/ATPL

@SpruceMooseAviation
@SpruceMooseAviation 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Violet, I'd recommend getting the CASA RPL as a minimum. This restricts you to only flying locally from your departure point but from a knowledge/situational awareness/safety point i'd recommend continuing your training and getting a PPL. This will help over an RAAUS RPC in regards to passengers as well. You can fly heavier aircraft with more seats and bring someone to help with the little ones so you can focus on the main tasks of flying the Aircraft. In relation to flying with children, there is no limit on the age but there are different rules and regulations depending on the age. i.e. Infant = 2 years or Under, Child = 2-13 Years, Adult = 13+. You can find all the CASA requirements at this link file:///Users/tom/Downloads/advisory-circular-91-18-restraints-infants-children.PDF I hope this helps, I apologise for the delay in response and Happy New Year

Ok So with your RPL, isn't there possibility to go on further the become a flight instructor, but would it be cheaper to get an RPC license, become an instructor through the endorsement and then turn it into an RPL license? And just say I got an RPC license and got many different endorsements on it but I wanted to get an RPL as well, and so I got the RPL, but what about those endorsements that don't transfer, will they just be at an RPC level and so I would have to do these endorsement activities under the conditions of an RPC?
@SpruceMooseAviation
@SpruceMooseAviation 2 жыл бұрын
Hey. CASA and RAAUS are two separate organisations. Yes, you can become an RAAUS instructor quicker. But that’s based on only instructing in RAAUS LSA’s for recreational purposes. You can’t convert an RAAUS instructor rating over to CASA. You need to have a CPL before doing the instructor rating with CASA. Hope that helps

Hey Obaidullah, I’m a fixed wing pilot so I can only share my knowledge on those. Helicopters scare me 😂. How long it takes depends on a lot of factors, like previous experience, how well you take in each lesson, How much you study and prepare for each lesson etc etc. I’d suggest doing a TIF (Trial Introductory Flight) with a school before doing anything else.

Hi Ivan, Im not 100% sure as I've never done it or looked into the process. I do know that a lot of Australian pilots go over to the US for work so It should be fine. I guess the main question would be around where you are going to be based the most and if its just worth training in that country. I know a conversion exam and flight test is required if converting from FAA to CASA so id assume it similar the other way around as well. Sorry I cant be of more help o this one. Hi Josh. I haven’t looked at pricing in a while and as mentioned it’s probably going to change. You may need to look outside the major training airports as the schools there will have higher overheads which they need to reflect in the pricing. You will however get more exposure to the procedures within the larger airports as well so the extra costs do have some added benefits. Like all things you need to weigh up your personal pro’s and con’s and make a decision from there. Good luck with your aviation journey 🤙🏼

Is there a cost for converting from an RPC to an RPL
@SpruceMooseAviation
@SpruceMooseAviation 2 жыл бұрын
Hi pilot640, I believe CASA charge $50 for the licence conversion. Plus you require a flight review in a VH registered aircraft to “activate” the licence once you receive it in the post. The flight should only be about an hour unless you have something the instructor wants to work on with you. Here’s a link to the licence conversion form for further info www.casa.gov.au/recreational-pilot-licence-rpl-recognition-pilot-certificate
