How much does it cost to build a Log Home in 2023?

The final price and tour of my brothers log home in norther MN. We are a small family owned business and specialize in Norwegian style hand crafted log homes. This was a 3 part series of the what it takes and the cost to build a log house in Northern MN.

Looks great. I see forced air for heat and A/C, is there supplemental in-floor heating with the tile in the bathroom and/or kitchen? I have a tile floor behind my bar in the rec room and I installed a heating system, which is great to heat the entire room plus keep your feet toasty warm.

Good idea to put the fireplace completely inside the house. That way you won’t lose any heat to the outside.

Fireplaces loose heat either way, it all goes up the chimney mostly. Wood stoves on the other hand especially newer high efficiency will radiate the heat inside the home with much less heat loss. Fire place is for looks, ancient technology, most homes hundreds of years ago they would place a container of coals under the bed sheets in wealthy people’s beds because the rooms fire place is so inefficient

We just do the log shell. We don't do the foundation work. I know where Vergas is, beautiful area. What size house/cabin are you looking at building? I can give you the log shell price

Ok, we are at $36 a Sq foot for the main floor so 1000 Sq ft would be $36,000 built and reassembled by us at your spot, the loft is bid at $25 a Sq foot

Yes, IF you do most of the finishing work yourself. We did about 70% and hired out the other 30%

You should build a cabin. You will love it. As for land I have a realtor friend who let's me know about land for sale before it hits the market. You definitely want high land with some solid standing trees. What state are you in?

Very nice job. Some friendly advice from a taxidermist. I would move any mounts away from the fireplace. Fireplace is dry them out and they start to crack.

This is absolutely stunning! One thing I wonder about: I also love the high ceilings. But they make it harder to get the place heated during winter..? Or isn’t that really an issue in your location? (I’m thinking from the perspective of Lapland where winters are very cold and very long..)

@ i think you are underestimating the cost a contractor would have charged for the build. You might have added cost of land to your total and its also geographic location makes a difference too but log homes are very labor/skill intensive so i would bet your beautiful home appraises much higher than what it cost you unless you paid to subb out a lot of the work

But if you heat with wood you cannot sleep up there in the winter. If it's 80 deg. down stairs it's 95 up!
