Not including flights I spent a little bit over 500 $ in my 4 weeks there. I didn't do any diving or balloon rides but my itinerary was similar to yours. Hi Karl. Not exactly sure what your total was for all the sites you visited, but did you look into getting the Cairo and Luxor passes? If you had bought the Cairo pass it would have entitled you to buy the Luxor pass for 50% of the going rate. So the two premium passes would have more or less got you everything bar Abu Simbel for $200 and would have allowed you in to see Nefertari and Seti's tombs. I did the math and it's well worth the cost, plus the convenience, though it only really works if you plan on seeing a fair few of the historic monuments.
@karlwatsondocs5 жыл бұрын
Hadn’t heard about those passes, although that still works out a lot more than I spent in Cairo and Luxor, and that’s including the stupid camel ride. You’re right though seems like a good deal if you’re gonna check out all of the sites
@timbowilderbeeste87095 жыл бұрын
@@karlwatsondocs Oh, they're not easy to track down - there's two points of sale in Cairo for the Cairo pass (the Egyptian museum and the entrance to the Giza plateau) and one in Luxor (Karnak temple) for the Luxor pass. They're really worth it for anyone who likes to hit a lot of the sites, especially if they want to visit things like Seti and Nefertari's tombs in Luxor (considered the best artistically) which I think run to $50 per ticket. I totaled up the separate ticket costs for me, versus the passes, and the cost comes in at less than half the outlay. Plus you don't necessarily need the premium pass for Luxor if you don't want to visit the tombs of Nefertari or Seti - you can just get the standard pass, which brings the total for both passes down to $150. There's also the huge convenience factor of not having to line up for tickets at each place, though of course you still have to buy photo passes if that's a point of interest. For any of your subscribers who might be interested, here's the official guide to the passes (it's useful as well for people looking for the individual cost of each site) - www.egyptologyforum.org/MOA/MoA_Ticket_Price_Nov._2018_EN.pdf
@timbowilderbeeste87095 жыл бұрын
@@wineishealthy AlohaForLife Hi there. Yep, anything and everything listed on that sheet for Luxor is included - if you look at the picture of the pass it shows you what's available. What some people even do while in Luxor is go to Seti and Nefertari's tomb each morning just for the hell of it, knowing it's well over $100 worth of value each time - it's like people who go on cruise ships, buy a booze-pass, and spend the entire cruise drinking like fish to get their money's worth! :) The Luxor ticket doesn't include Abu Simbel to the south or Kom Ombo and Edfu to the north, but it's still worth it. The prices you see for each individual place on that PDF sheets is in Egyptian currency, which is currently at around 16.5 Egyptian pounds per US Dollar - so if you look at the cost for Nefertari's tomb, which is 1200 EP, that works out to about $72 US - and as expensive as that seems, especially by Egyptian standards, I know people who'll pay it to see that tomb, because the artwork inside is that good. Think of it another way - at 50% off via the Cairo pass discount the $100 US cost of the Premium pass for Luxor pays for itself just on Nefertari and Seti's tombs, which together would cost $132 US - so you're already saving $32. Everything else in Luxor is then basically thrown in for free. Here's all the places I plan on visiting during my time in Luxor (bearing in mind that I love Egyptian history and want to check out all the sites that I can) - Luxor Temple, Luxor museum, Karnak temple, Karnak open museum, Nefertari tomb, Seti I tomb, Tutankhamen tomb, Ramses IV tomb, other VOTK tombs, Temple of Hatshepsut, Rammeseum, Tombs of the nobles, Medinet Habu, Carter's home, Valley of the queens, Tomb of Ay - all that adds up to over $230 US if I buy separate tickets, bearing in mind the additional tedium of lining up to get each one. Also bear in mind that you can go back to anything you like as many times as you feel or on a whim if you happen to be nearby - if one visit to Nefertari's tomb isn't enough, you can go back again. There is one caveat to all this though - the tickets can be a real pain to get because according to numerous trip reviews a lot of the staff aren't even aware of the passes and will look at you in mystification if you ask for them. Each place has got it's own little trick to getting the pass - if you do a search on it under Tripadviser or Lonely Planet's forum you'll find up-to-date information on the procedure. And unless it's changed you can't buy both passes at the same time - you buy the Cairo pass first, do your thing for the five-day limit on the pass, then go to Luxor and use the Cairo pass (even if it's since expired) to buy the Luxor version at 50% off. Hope all this helps! :)

Most people only think of Thailand, I think Thailand/Bali are overrated. Yes, if you haven't visit Thailand, you should. However, if you divide your travel to just travel a little south, to Malaysia's Langkawi island, you would be delighted. You can literary see Thailand's island from Langkawi without a ton of tourist and over price hotels, it's also has white sandy beaches, and they all speaks English because Malaysia was a British colony. The bonus when visiting Malaysia is the variety of delicious food from 3 cultures, Malay, Indian & Chinese.

The thing is that my parents want to visit in January but I can't choose any other month but July. I also don't like sun position in the winter months, the sky is bluer in summer and I always see more beautiful pictures because the sun is positioned the highest. @sandytatham35924 жыл бұрын
The day train is definitely safe, but I'm not sure about the night train or whether a foreigner can buy a ticket in the seated area for that journey. I bought tickets for the day train to Luxor in October for myself, my daughter, and her little boy at the ticket counter in Cairo, paying in Egyptian pounds. It was a bit difficult but a local helped me. The day train was lovely, similar to European trains in comfort, and not expensive.
