Hi Karl! I've encountered your series by chance looking for some information about travel in Peru. Ever since, I've been watching all your videos over and over again and I can't stop. You have the talent, the sense and the skills to do amazing work. I mean not only your editing, which helps a lot of course, but mostly your gift for telling stories, knowing what to show, make it fun, entertaining and informative as well. Not many people can do that. Most of the people will just shoot a video. You do it differently. Keep the good work! Regarding the earning and spending - it also depends in what currency you get paid. Your UK sterling can buy you more than my Bulgarian lev. But one way or another I will continue traveling. Can't wait for your next video! Regards :)

cool video guy. You have a nice camera look and voice. Im in my late 30s and am still on a 6 year, 75 country trip (which is still going) and stopped counting the dollars ive spent. Few years ago i was at $50,000, now probably well over $100,000 or it could be even more. I even met a girl and had 2 kids during this trip :-) Now they travel with me. But exactly what you said, dont let money stop you travelling, as you can get more money, but you cant buy back time. I have never regretted spending a single dollar on travelling. I've also had a sailing yacht this whole time, which is the plan for the next 5+ years to sail asia and australia, now that my kids are getting to an age where they can hold on and stay safe. I never made any youtube videos about these trips however. Cheers

I'm guessing like myself you have a budget in pound sterling, but obviously you need to convert that into other currency's, what did you find best at the time? P.S sorry for the long winded question, keep up the awesome videos. Cheers, Sean.

Hi Karl, I found your videos while researching for our own RTW trip next year and hit the jackpot ! I haven't done a back to back like that since Breaking Bad ! I loved following your journey. Im going to be travelling with my 3 children for a year and planning a similar trip (with slightly less booze and a lot less hurling myself from great heights) but going the other direction ,starting in Canada,NY, then route 66 ( not sure whether to do car or RV ? ) then Bahamas, south america ,Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand , Asia . Im inspired to trek to Machu Picchu now instead of train but still a little concerned about the youngest child who will be 10 when we go.How dangerous does it get ? But i really want to ask how you coped with your schedule, I'm not sure if i should get rtw tickets pre booked and planned and stick to the time schedule or just book flights as we go ? i like the idea of doing it in our own time but dont like the idea of being stuck somewhere because we didnt book the next leg. Baring in mind im paying for 4, I need to cut costs where ever possible , i know i will have to pre book the Inca trail, so in short , did you find pre booking the whole trip a drag or a blessing ? Im also realizing i might be cramming too much into one year! Your videos have give me an invaluable insight ,and some proper belly laughs, thanks so much.
@michelle45959 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot that's really useful to know, and good point about the Kiwi bus, the other kids are older teenagers but I am quite conscious about the littlen , I dont want other members, of any group we find ourselves in, to feel hindered or inhibited by us, or to subject Eve to anything too inappropriate ! The rtw ticket seemed to get more and more complicated the more i looked into it, with some saying you cant back track, or land miles being counted as air miles, and fees for re scheduling but I did think booking as we go might get super expensive at times when there are no last minute deals . So thats really good to hear the rtw ticket can be more flexible than i imagined it to be. I think its time to sort through my notebook of a gazillion notes and nail down the route and start talking to agents. Thanks for taking the time to reply, btw how old did you say my kid was ? :) looking forward to your next videos !

+Karl Watson: Travel Documentaries hi karl, , i wonder if you could advise me on something. SO since we last spoke i have been into sta twice to try and book our tickets , the 1st time in Southampton was such poor service i nearly went to another company but gave them another chance, this time in Bournemouth. again was unsuccessful ! although they are getting back to me , i hope. They have said i will be unable to book my flights for the whole trip on the exact dates in one go due to the 10 month restriction so that means we will have a flexi pass and basically have to rebook all our flights once we are on route. They said there are no hidden costs for this aside from possible fare variations and taxes, however i have googled this and alot of people are saying it can be incredibly expensive. As i am paying for myself and my 3 kids and around 10 flights will have to be changed i am very concerned about this. So basically, did you have to do the same thing and was it a smooth operation ?. We are leaving in mid august for 9 months so even if i wait till january to book i still have to change every flight after october so thats most of the trip. The alternative is to wait untill the month before we go and book all flights in one go but that is very last minute. How far in advance did you book your trip ? sorry i know this is a complicated question but i really just want to set off knowing all my flights are booked on the correct dates so i can book a few nice hotels and inca trail etc i honestly though i could just walk in and buy 4 rtw tickets. no chance ! i cant mess up so early on, my 1st quote from sta was £30000!!! and that didnt include any internal flights for the whole of south america and asia . Incidentally the website quoted about 12000 for all the flights so the price basically doubled when i went to book it. Have you used any different travel agents ? any advise is greatly appreciated x

I want to travel, next year around March, for 6 months to south east Asia, Australia-Nz, Western Europe ( specially Belgium for tomorrowland ) and North America. I have already started saving for the journey. But I am a bit hesitant travelling all alone, as I have only travelled abroad three times in my life, that too with someone along. I have asked all my friends, but nobody is willing to leave their jobs for 6 months. I know I am bold enough, but just feel it can get boring sometimes all alone. So what is the alternative, should I just travel alone or try to search the internet for some groups or any other solution you have ? Great to hear :) I thought maybe you had an emergency fund or credit card. Glad James got out of the ticket :)

I'm 7 months in to a 10 month trip which has cost me roughly 6,000 pounds. That being said, i've only been through Eastern and Central Europe and Asia. Just an idea.

I don't think money is really the problem it's my parents..they're not agreeing with me to go to New Zealand to do work and travel :o I feel like it's too late to convince them because all my friends already have their visas and flights booked and I also only have 2 days left to apply for uni. I still don't know what I want to do later on in life or even what to study..right now it just looks like I'm gonna have to study whatever I can find and just stick with it :/

miniturtle I'm not putting in a lot of pre reading on the comments section so apologies if this is already explained somewhere else, BUT I'm going to go ahead anyway. I don't know what your parents disagreement is based on, it might be because we're at the bottom of the bloody world and our internet sucks balls BUT if it's safety, a tiny bit of common sense here goes a long way. We're a pretty safe country. I've never been worried about walking around at night on my own as a young female. It might not seem much but 99% of people here will go out of their way to help ya if you need it :) I'm biased as all hell but I have to say... it's pretty wicked here!

From what I see, most trips are around $24000. So Karl’s $33,000 is the more exclusive higher end side

Karl Watson: Travel Documentaries yeah definitely, I remember years back when I was in Australia it definitely killed my budget. I guess it depends on what you want out of traveling on a individual bases. Myself I prefer scenery and experiences rather than activities

How much did you spend on hostels for the whole trip? Guess? ha
@connorhawes96308 жыл бұрын
Money all depends how much u value yr own life and how poor your willing to be. For a life of travel at least, applies to a trip as well. Also what kind of events u want to go to

Holy cow you guys are spending alot im budgeting for $15 thousand canadian for a year, but I also wont be doing the tours as they hike up price of the big ticket $3200 for it. For $900 I can fly to London with a 1 week stop in greenland then the flight from NZ to south america is $500 then wherever i fly home will be $600 and about $300 in airfare for Europe if i use it.
