Hey Reid, do you have any comments or insights on the topic of carry handle optics mounts? I've never had an electronic sight, but I see people that use risers for their scopes and dots and always wondered why they don't just use a carry handle? It can act as your riser, and you have a nice set of irons as a backup, as well the the utility of the carry handle. And I'd assume there are even some mounts that might allow you to still use the irons even with an optic. Or are there deficiencies or drawbacks of the slant mounts? It's an interesting topic, to me at least, so if anyone else has anything to share on it, please feel free to jump in. Hope you're all doing well and staying safe!

Check out Blitzkrieg front sight posts. I have one that comes to a fine point rather than flat. Downside is, depending if you get a night sight you only have 180° or 360° adjustments. Mine happened to zero perfectly.

Would "lights up, sights up" only pertain if you zeroed on a cloudy day? Because wouldnt it be the oppositte way if you zeroed on a sunny day?
@dogma79118 ай бұрын
Ideally you'd want to zero under optimal conditions and adjust for wind, rain, elevation, temperature, etc.

@Mongoose-be4sg8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info Reid and the tip about blacking your front site with a lighter-the Army did not mention that during my 6 weeks at Ft. Knox. Could you do a video about how shooting up and down hill affects point of aim and point of impact? I recall officers in the Civil War would tell their men to aim at the enemy’s belt buckles, but I do not remember if that’s for shooting up hill or down. Thanks!!
@34219588 ай бұрын
I'm not Reid but I have an answer for you. When shooting up or down hill your shot will impact high. The steeper the angle the greater the affect obviously. Most range finders have a function that will account for this, or you can attach an angle cosign indicator to your rifle. As far as the belt buckle aiming... that was a simple way of training inexperienced troops so they didn't have to account for the bullets trajectory in the heat of battle. So for instance they might zero the rifle at 300 yards. Then an enemy pops up at 150 your shot might hit 18 inches high. But it's fine because if you're aiming at the belt buckle your still going to hit them somewhere in the torso.

My eyes are a bit old for iron sights. I can still shoot irons, but not like back in the day. I was a 4th award expert in the Corps and even had an offer to qualify for the rifle team which I never got to try because I was in a short MOS. I doubt I could detect the difference in lighting conditions because my focus on the front sight just is not that good these days. Thank God for optics. Semper Fi

A lot. I once had to shoot a “low light,” qualification, which turned into a no light qualification. I was one of two who passed the first go. I used the occasional flash from my muzzle device. It was just enough to get an idea that my rounds were on target, as I could at least see the end of my rifle.😂🤣

@denisdegamon82248 ай бұрын
Reduce the dot brightness until the fuzziness clears up on the red dot. Too bright a setting adds that haze around the red dot, which in turn adds to that aiming error factor Reid was talking about.
