You don't need to excuse yourself when being critical about Norway. Every point you make Norwegians know is true. Some don't like to be reminded of all the cons of Norway, but this is the only way to enforce change. Let me make a list from your talk about everything that sucks about Norway. I do a prioritized list. Worst thing first. This is true while traveling the countryside - not necessarily in the cities. 1) It is impossible to plan anything in Norway. This means you should be 100% spontaneous and watch the forecast from hour to hour (yr.no pay attention to the satellite view) and start BEFORE you come to Norway. You don't plan your Norway vacation if you're a sane person. You go when the experts say this is going to be the summer of the decade. There's a good summer typically one time in five years. 2) Eating in restaurants is a no go unless you plan to spend at least €10k in three weeks. 3) Grocery is typically 1.5 times as expensive compared to the rest of Europe on average and will grow to 2 times if you include beef and 5 times when you include beer and wine. You can fight some of this craziness by only shopping at Rema and Kiwi and closely watching what is cheaper and bringing with you the allowed tax-free quota. 4) There's no organized gray and black water handling. No network of easily accessible butane network. No easily accessible tap water. 5) There's no organized trash handling for tourists. You've got no choice but to use private garbage cans when available. 6) Norway love their animal cruelty demanding you to keep your dog on a leash at all time even when it doesn't make any sense. 7) Prices at campsites can be everything from impolite to insane. This can be fought by only camping in the wild which is the best anyways. 8) If you're the social type expecting bands in the evening at campsites, forget it, this is not a thing in Norway like in the rest of Europe. Norway is simply an insane society and is only good for nature. In many aspects of a normal life, Norway is worse than the east block or sometimes even the third world. The reason why is simple to explain. 2/3 of the people work in the public sector or a company that lives off of the public sector. Thus, the last 1/3 needs to increase their prices to pay for insane taxes and salaries. It is never going to get better. Even the billionaires are saying they pay their taxes with pleasure. This is of course impossible. The gov't only takes money. The best you can do to help the few sane Norwegians turn around this hell on earth is to use as little money as you can and enjoy nature and always remember to leave a sour remark at the craziness just like you did in this video. Anyways, the small sane part of the Norwegian people suffers with you, long after you're gone.

Dogleash is for the wildlife and their babies. Also for when the farmers let their sheep into the mountains during summer. I hate the rule aswell. Many places it stops 20th of august. It’s only longer where there is sheep or similar.

Hey guys! We are in Norway now and have had 6 weeks of the sun so far, sorry to hear about the rain situation when you were here. Agree with the dog leash rules and control over certain things, we have a dog and it's been tricky! We've been doing laundry at the marinas, they all have machines and they are super cheap (£2-£3) and £1 or free showers too. Marina facilities are the way to go in Norway! Groceries can be expensive but we stocked up before arriving and the basics here are cheaper than we expected such as bread (0.90p) or eggs etc. I think we've spent around the same as you for around 6 weeks. 🤔 Looking forward to seeing your next travel plans, best of luck guys

We were in Norway in July and totally agree with everything you said. It was pricey for groceries but free for overnighting and services so costs were evened out. Our weather wasn't as bad as you had but neither was it great. We felt like we were missing out on the great summer everyone else was having. The alcohol rules were daft. You can buy it weekday daytime but not evenings and weekends!!! And it was sooo expensive. We thought we would be there for most of our 90 days but actually stayed about a fortnight. The scenery was stunning - but it was just that. No fun. Too expensive to eat and drink. Restaurants were like morgues. Activities were too expensive. We spent an absolute fortune on fuel Stunning place but we just felt we weren't having as much fun as other places we'd been. Love your videos and energy.

Love your vlogs! Should know that Norwegians are very fond of tourists, and very eager to help in any situation. But between fellow countrymen, we can be quite reserved. Unless on hikes or crosscountryskiing in the woods/Mountains. But you should really travel here in the wintertime, its fabulous and the scenery might be even more astonishing! Imagine Star Wars - The empire strikes back. The location of planet Hoth, is actually filmed in the Mountains of Finse. Welcome back, and keep up the good work!

Newsflash! Protecting wild life is more important than your dog being able to run without a leash. That has nothing to do with control. Besides, IMO dogs should always be on leash, many people are scared of dogs.
@nicroams
@nicroams 2 жыл бұрын
We are completely aware that dogs should be on leash where animals graze/nest. That isn’t the problem. The problem is in Norway, dogs have to be on leash everywhere, even where there are no issues. That is control. Before I owned Onyx, I was scared of dogs. I didn’t mind if a dog was off leash as long as it was trained well, so again I think dogs should be allowed off lead in appropriate places. Each to their own anyway, but deffo didn’t need a newsflash announcement 🙃

Two things....an average Norwegian family has around 8000 euros paid per month...the prices are a result...So the weather...it is variable...north of Dovre...the coast...is constant varying. I'm from Trondhjem...and live in Spain...;) Advantages and disadvantages...

I drove up and down from Spain/Norway....this summer...fuel, ferries, toll roads...food...just under 1000 euros each way. About double what I have paid previously. Drive up via Norway or Sweden and then take the trip in the north of Norway...Bodø and north. But don't count on just sun...A week?

I was so glad to see y’all back together again 🤗 I guess that nobody likes to see couples split apart. I do believe that the weather may have played a huge roll in everything. All the rain in Norway! I would have been thunking, here we are spending all of this money & having a crappy time. And, the heat in Germany would be the icing on the cake for me, when it comes to crappy times! I enjoyed seeing your videos, but with hindsight giving you 20/20 vision, it looks to me that the weather may have played a huge part in Nic’s depression! I know it would have for me! Here in Norway we have a lot of wildlife and farms, so dogs need to be on a leash. If dogs are not on a leash, they often run around and attack and kill both wildlife and household animals like pigs and sheep, but also children. We are strict on unvaccinated dogs as to prevent imported deceases.

@nicroams Hello :) Thanks for the interesting video. For some reason I cried laughing at the lady telling Sam he was a puppy stuck in a bag 😂 I really need some advice! I am travelling into Norway with my dog on the ferry from Denmark. My dog has a European passport from Romania as my partner is romanian. Did you have any trouble getting across the border from the UK? I am planning to get him the worming treatment before we leave but worried I am missing something!! Thanks :) ❤
@nicroams
@nicroams Жыл бұрын
Hi Danielle, yes there are some funny comments 😂. So sorry for the slow reply, hopefully I’m not too late but the EU pet passport is absolutely fine to use. There are a few things you need to sort in advance like rabies jabs. We cover it all on this blog post www.nicroams.co.uk/preparing-for-your-european-road-trip/, sharing as I can’t remember everything off the top of my head. When you head to Norway you need to sort a worming tablet too regardless of the EU pet passport. If I’m late, I hope you’ve had/ having the best trip 🤗

That's less than I thought it would be , but no travel is cheap these days.🙄 You need to WANT to go to Nordkapp or I'd say don't bother as the expense getting there is big, I'm going to to Nordkapp (again) next year and King Oscars chapel (on the Norway/Russian border) as that place is on my bucket list. There are so many cool places closer to home, reign in your plans to suit your budget, makes for a stress free trip that way👍 Nice to see you guys back together🤞

Reflecting on it, I think it was far cheaper than expecting. I guess we saved on not doing any activities. Sometimes travelling isn't about the end destination but the journey there, that's why we want to go Nordkapp, we are fully prepared for it to be a tourist trap 😄. That sounds like an awesome trip you have planned, I hope it is everything you expected and more ☺️

@@nicroams When I did Nordkapp in 2010 it was awesome, more so as it was the 1st time I'd driven abroad, talk about in at the deep end🤣 But I did get to see the midnight sun and it was so cold, there were ice crystals in the air and they twinkled in the light, it was magical standing looking over the sea knowing how far north you are. I'd say it's the feeling more than the touristy bit that makes Nordkapp if you know what I mean? It's why I'm going back, so if I time it right my 56th birthday will be at the top of Europe😁

Hi! I’ve seen some of your videos and I sort of liked them😊 One thing I would like to ask you though, is what do you do to secure yourself when you are doing all your free camping? I also registered that Sam emptied the toilet in the video and I hope you didn’t just dump the “stuff” in the nature as that is a real nasty thing especially foreigners do in our country. I think you should mention or rather emphasize that in your video. Else I hope you are doing good both of you and I hope you come back to our beautiful country one day as you “absolutely haven’t seen it all” 😀👍

Hi Tom, thank you so much. Honestly, we just lock the doors, we’ve been living in vans for 5 years and had no issues. We have access to the cab and put the keys in the same place every day if we did need to get out of a place. In regards to the toilet, we empty it in the appropriate places and would never dump it in the wild, the wild is our home 🥰. We do go over this in videos but we can’t cover it in every video. We can’t wait to go back, but when we have more money 😂
