If you want to take it over 35 before the body swap, cut some plexiglass and bolt it on the frame behind the dash as a wind deflector, that bit of wind being thrown upwards will deflect the rest over your head. And also the state-of-charge on the original 3.8 run was low compared to it being nearly full this time, so last time it had less voltage and thus less horsepower, so it being a whole second faster was both it being far lighter now but also having a much higher charge level and somewhat higher battery voltage and thus more horsepower. The removal of the body would've had a big effect anyways though, perhaps 3 to 5 tenths I'd guess.

I'm willing to bet that a decent portion of the 0-60 time improvement was due to the battery charge. The first 0-60 run was done with what looks like 40% or so battery charge, and the second run looked like it was at least 80% battery charge. The overall battery charge makes quite a big difference on the power output capability of the battery.
@tomsixsix
@tomsixsix Жыл бұрын
That's only really true at low temperatures. The Model 3 in NCA and LFP chemistry is about equally fast down to 30% SoC as long as it's not freezing outside, then performance is impacted. For LFP it can get really bad.

Though the base design is quite universal, there's a lot to consider and act accordingly, like exact length, exact width, wheels, dash and fuel tank positions on the three axis, really much easier said than done as you said. NOW, DO THIS to a Tesla model S plaid! Like if if you want him to do it for our entertainment!
@pfistor
@pfistor Жыл бұрын
Maybe if he could find a wrecked one, but it's a 130-150,000 dollar car. Also on a prepped track the plaid launches to 60 mph at just under 2 seconds at 1.98, I doubt there would be any improvement, the body is ultra lightweight already because the Plaid is a much more high performance oriented vehicle. With a potential for a 200 mph top speed after a software update, the launch max speed was 160, if you spoil the aero I think the car will just be made worse in every way I don't think it has the bulky extra weight the model 3 has. And with 1,000 hp it's not noticing the weight as much as the model 3, and having less weight may just mean less grip for all that power. At certain points in the launch it is pulling more than 1g which seems almost impossible so the room for improvement is absolutely razor thin. And if you added a roll cage it would probably weigh more than the removed parts.

reinforced to protect the battery aginst getting punctured from the bottom if you hit something or protected from the sides in case of an accident. there is no way the chassis hasn't lost 80% of it's rigidity. the roof and the pillars are also super reinforced to provide the best protectio' against rollover despite the glass roof so it all contributes to the rigidity, with half the unibody gone it has to be flexy like a car from the 1950's...Tesla is much too concerned about weight to make a skateboard that stays rigid without the roof

Have you thought of using zoom instead of pointing? Usually a quick zoom with that camera will focus really quick. Plus give viewers a good look. Plus you can use your pointing hand on the camera so it won’t habitually get in the way. Also, frosty’s and fries are the best

I love that in America you can do whatever you want with cars. In the UK, you would have been pulled over and probably had it impounded and fined and have to go to court and get 6 points minimum (for reference 12 points and you lose your license for 6 months)

The cars, power and speed is limited by the computer. The motors are capable of a lot more. My model three with all the passengers is just as fast with me driving it alone.

20:17 you gotta remember they take away about .3 seconds off the time for roll out. So on a prep track it was probably 3.5 0-60 originally

Fun fact, an early 2000s Buick Park Avenue has a wheelbase and track width that are only half an inch longer and wider than a Model3 We definitely need to see a 20 year old Buick body on this thing to make the ultimate sleeper

This is awesome! I run 3.26- 3.3 sec on my 2022 and 2023 m3p compared to your 3.8 (I have no idea how) It may be something to do with the year of your car or if you have multiple cells out on your car. Either way- I would be very interested to see the results if this were done to a plaid that can already run a 1.9 - 2.2 sec 0-60 :))

My prediction is the same acceleration. I think it’s traction limited. Less weight is less to accelerate but also less grip.

Hi Chris🤩 My deeam (not to be fulfilled) is to merge a Tesla Model 3 underbody to a Citroën DS ('69-'75) and incorporate all the new tech into the body. I did some measurements and found out that with a little lengthening of the wheelbase it is doable 🤘 Maybe you & the guys can fullfill my dream? Greetings from long lasting viewer from Norway - Truls

Would definitely like a rebuilt Tesla as a giveaway car (and see it rebuilt too!). How about a custom color? This current build has my attention as I would also like to rebody a Tesla. I would put a 69 Charger body on it and call it "General Electric".... Incredible that it is a whole second faster, 0-60.
