At first I was struggling not to snack between meals I’ll drink water like too much too, but as I really started to add avocados and evoo, ghee ect I can go without snacking and not drinking too much water to flush out my electrolytes. I drink only when I’m thirsty . I’m so happy and even gave a boost of confidence

From what I learned in nursing school, the lower the pH the more acidic, so if vegetables are acidic they will lower the pH not raise it. It may be semantics but it needs clarification. A low number on the pH scale means acidic and the higher the number it is more alkaline. So it raises the acidity but lowers the pH number.

The start of 2019 I weighed 300lbs. I went hard core on protein and produce ONLY and became a gym rat 6 days a week. By July I weighed 210 lbs but plateaued. I thought "what more can I remove!" Then I found one of Dr Berg's videos about Keto and upon looking into it I realized I was already practically doing it short of 2 things: I wasn't eating FAT and my protein shake+banana was high in carbs. I threw out the shake and started eating FAT and doing the IF and HOLY COW my weight loss not only took off again, it can't get out of my body fast enough! I lose 1-2 pounds daily! Suddenly I broke free from the 200's after being there for over 20 years, saw 182 on the scale and actually slid into my SKINNY JEANS last night!!! I cannot begin to thank Dr Berg enough for all of his free informational videos on youtube that honestly have probably saved MANY of us in our weight loss/better health journey as well as women going through menopause! Because of his videos on MP, I now have a strategy on how to balance out my body! I can't WAIT TO GET my adrenal supplements and step my progress up a notch! We love you Dr Berg!!!

Eric Berg Hi Dr Berg you say eat the whipped cream or pecans after a meal so that's if you are just eating a veggie meal with no fats. I can see now that most people would consume too much fat. For example, if they have a piece of meat with veggie topped with butter or coconut oil or a salad with olive oil dressing.......then have some whipped cream for desert. Well the fat intake would be close to 100g.

If you can't find 'fatty' ground beef, you can also add bacon grease (fat) to the pan when you're frying the meat. Every time I cook bacon, I save the strained drippings in a covered jar and keep it in the fridge. Then when I need to add fat to whatever I'm making, I use the bacon fat and it adds flavor as well. Sauteeing spinach and mushrooms? Use bacon grease. And so on...

Hello good Dr Berg, I have some questions for you: If you recommend 20-40g of fat per meal, only to eat two times a day, and still be on a keto diet, aren't you recommending people to eat under 1000kcal a day then? Because the protein shouldn't be too high either, and you cant eat more than 5-10% of carbs on the keto diet? On a keto diet fat should be about 70% of the caloric intake right? On a 1000kcal diet i get 78g fat (70% of caloric intake), 50g protein (20% of caloric intake), 25g carbohydrates (10% of caloric intake). Is it dangerous to eat more than 40g of fat per meal? Cause I want to eat about 1700 kcal/day.

Hey I was going to respond to the video but it might be more fitting here. Hope it helps Regarding this video as well as the one where Eric defines the carb range at 20-50g; I think these ranges can cause confusion for some that are following this. For one Eric doesn't define what the total calorie budget is. For example 30g/meal and two meals would be 60g x 9cal ~540 calories. That means a person on a 1500cal budget would need to get ~1000cal from carbs & protein. That equates to 250g. So limiting carbs to 50g, you would need to consume 200g of protein. This will be well above the 20% protein guidance. For reference my budget ~2500cal split between two meals. And i consume about 175-200g of fat (per day). I would suggest users track your ingredients in a meal tracker app. Fat adds up when you count butter, nuts, etc.

If someone would care to explain this to me if I am wrong I'd appreciate it. Assuming you eat the maximum 40g of fat per meal for 3 meals- there are 9 calories per gram of fat, so 3 x 40 x 9 = 1080 calories. On a keto diet 75% of your calories should come from fat, but if you add up the other macronutrients the total is still well bellow 1500 calories... What am I missing? are there 4-5 meals? he recommended 2 meals which I agree with, but the macros just don't add up
@rogerbreton64127 жыл бұрын
I agree with 9 calorie per gram of fat figure. But where are you getting that 75% figure from? Following your 75% figure, for a sedentary diet of 2200 calories/day, 0.75 x 2200 = 1,650 calories, divided by 9 calories per gram of fat, this gives 183g of fat.
@pureffm7 жыл бұрын
That's why he recommends 60% rather than the typical 75% in his adapted keta diet. If you eat 75% of your calories through fat, then you eat another 270 calories through fat and proteins (68g), i.e. 1350 calories total If you eat 60% of your calories through fat, then you eat another 720 calories through fat and proteins (180g), i.e. 1800 calories total, which is still below the recommended calorie intake of 2,500 calories for men and 2,000 calories for men but is adapted to losing weight when you can burn own body fat for a while. However he also said that you can vary fat up or down depending on your own calorie needs, as these will vary based on build and lifestyle. I think too many people focus on the amount of fat to eat on keto, whereas what matters is to stay below the calorie threshold for proteins and carbs - assuming his preferred 60/35/5 ratio, that's 157g of proteins (52g per meal) and 23g of carbs (8g per meal). This shows that you can actually have an equivalent weight of fat and proteins and still be in keto.

Plus, you won't be buying bread, wheat flour, sugar, rice, pasta, and when you eat meat, you aren't eating the whole steak, or 1/2 a chicken, but 3-4 oz. A meal prep for just me for an entire week consisted of 2 ribeye steaks, 1 whole chicken, 2 lbs bacon, frozen broccoli florets, small cabbage. I was surprised at the actual cost advantage. A week or two later I purchased the heavy cream, cream cheese, cheddar cheese on sale, added almond milk, and cacao for hot chocolate. I'm sure location also plays a big role in cost. Other things you may want to add, hydrolytes, mct oil, don't need to be done all at once. When getting started, I simply cleaned out the pantry of processed , high carb foods. It made an amazing difference even without specialty products in the beginning. The products do make maintaining ketosis a breeze though. I have been amazed by the results and feel it is definitely worth a try. Everyone is different, though. For me, this was an easy change. I love the foods and recipes and have not felt deprived at all.

Hello Dr. Berg, I have just learned that I am type 2 diabetic. I cleaned out my cabinets and I am on my way to a healthier life with you and your videos . Before I got the news... my diet and sleep habits were so different than everybody else. I sometimes don't eat till 3 p.m. or even later and have only one or 2 meals a day. I used Splenda and drank flavored zero water, didn't eat out and thought the meals I made were healthy. We ate cabbage rolls, pork enchiladas, taco salad Tuesdays to get the family to eat together, I made homemade pot pies from leftover chicken or turkey meals, pork & beef roast, I even started making my own sausage! Why was I gaining weight when I hardly ate. My husband ate his pre-made breakfast and lunches I made for him so, when I woke up, I started working on whatever needed to get done. Then before you know it...he's home from work. Now I'm hungry. Forgetting that I hadn't eaten anything. When I made dinner he would eat leftovers for a couple of days so, there was no pressure to make dinner everyday. I only sleep 5 hours a day and don't like water. This was until recently. It was time for a physical and a colonoscopy. I had a blood test done and was told I was diabetic. My HGA1c was 7.4%. I was asked by a friend if I was fasting that day because, this could mess with the results. So, I didn't take it to seriously because of my eating habits. I don't go to the doctors unless I am really sick or hurting. Things started to change. I was thirsty for water, sugars, going to the bathroom a lot, my vision was not right and had pain on the left side of my stomach. Six months had past. I then decided it was time to go back and see what was going on. My HGA1c was now 10. Reality was a big slap in the face! I asked my doctor to check my weight for each year and according to the chart I had gained 2 lbs. each year for the past 5 years. To me it didn't seem like much, but I felt like it was much more than 10 lbs. More like 50 lbs This diagnosis was a BIG wake up call. So...I hit KZbin and found you. Time for a change in life. My husband has joined me and hoping to get the rest of my family on board as well. My mother and brother are both type 2. Thank you for all your time and effort. You are amazing!

Pasture raised vs Free range.. if anyone has been seeking for the information.. I did find this info : How much space do free range hens have? All farms producing free range eggs under Certified Humane standards must provide at least 2 square feet of outdoor access on grass per hen. Now, this may not sound like much if you imagine a bunch of hens all occupying their own little 2’ x 2’ patch of grass, but it’s important to note that this is just an average, and it's incredibly unlikely for all of the hens to be in the pasture space at the same time. In fact, it nearly never happens. Hens are actually a lot like people in this regard. Whether it’s cool outside, hot outside, or a perfect 70 degrees, many of them would simply prefer to be inside at any given moment. It’s safe, comfortable, cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and there’s fresh water and feed available at all times. As a company, we don’t force our hens to go outside. We give them ample ways to access the outdoors, and then let the hens decide. If you spend time watching our girls, you will see a steady stream of hens entering and exiting the barns. This means that at any given point in time, the hens that are outside have far more than 2 square feet each. Hens are also very social birds, so while they don’t wish to be crammed into giant warehouses or tiny cages, they do prefer to huddle into little groups and cliques to cluck about whatever is on their minds. Even on the brightest and sunniest days, there are always more grass and dirt areas open than than there are occupied. Pasture raised vs free range Pasture raised is a fairly new term in the egg industry, and although it isn't regulated by the USDA, its use has become increasingly popular in the past few years. Most pasture raised producers claim to offer anywhere from 35 to 108 square feet per hen, and that's just about where the differences between pasture raised and free range end! To put it simply, pasture raised just means more space. The question is, is that extra space always necessary? Are pasture raised eggs better than free range? In the case of outdoor space on family farms like ours, we believe that more isn’t necessarily better. More is just more in some cases! Since there's the potential for a lot of farmland to go unused in pasture raised scenarios, farmers often have to absorb the cost of owning and maintaining that extra pasture. And when you're a small family farm, those extra costs can make a big difference.

I realize this video is not a recent video ,but it creates a lot of confusion in the community, so let me explain. Traditional wisdom states a Keto diet derives its daily energy from: -10% carbs -20% proteins - 70% fats Conventional definitions put daily carb grams between 20-50 g Also people say that to calculate daily proteins take 1.5 - 1.8 g/kg of lean body mass. In Dr. Berg's case that equates to 123- 147 g So conservatively, if 20g of carbs represents 10% ,then, fat at 70% equates to 140 g of fat. Dr. Berg, you claim 30g of fat per meal, as the recommended intake, so if you eat 3 meals per day at 30g per meal you come up with 90g as daily fat consumption and this is an exaggeration, since you promote fasts ranging from 16-20 hours. So two meals or 60 g. of daily fat is more likely the recommendation. However going back to the traditional upper range of 50 g of carbs per day would give you a calculated daily fat requirement at 70% of energy as 350 g. So traditional calculations seem to suggest a daily fat requirement between 140 - 350 g. Now you Dr. Berg are saying that it is between 60g - 90 g/day depending if you eat two or three meals daily. This is a significantly huge differential. Why? I did not use the calculations of protein vs. fat to get a different range as it would simply add to the confusion. Perhaps Dr. Westman has it pegged, when he suggests nailing down the proteins and carbs which seem to be commonly agreed upon and let the satiety hormones take care of the fats. I am not trying to discredit Dr. Berg for any of his work which I think is excellent. My only complaint is the way Dr. Berg stands in front of the blackboard so it is hard for note takers. My critique on consistency of number crunching applies to all posters whether it be medical doctors, chiropractors or wanna be's to come up with a standard consistent set of numbers where the math works.

My approach now after few tries: couple times per weak white meat/fish/poultry. Then soups with cruciferous veggies and leafy greens (except spinach and maybe kale (low oxalates, lectins diet here)) on daily basis, twice per day 250 g, I usually do thick soups with all kinds of veggies cooked in bone broth. Speaking of fat I think I am cool with it already with bone broth, but if not it I add couple spoons of fats and it's already 30g, so plenty. I do egg yolks, egg whites reduces biotin (google about aftermath of that)
