Learned this same lesson with the US Army's UH-72 helicopter. The fuel line makes a near 90 degree bend below the refuel port so it's common for the uninitiated to see fuel back up in the line and spray out. Wonder if the Switch has either a large bend somewhere in the line or the vent system is just metered to a tighter tolerance..

This happened to me on my Harley Davidson Road Glide. Went to put fuel, pump kept stopping, but I can clearly see the empty tank. Played around with it and pulled it 50% of the way and it worked. After some research, turns out that handles from fuel pumps use a venturi effect, using suction letting the pump know when to stop. Sometimes those ports are clogged or not working correctly and cause the pump to stop. Make sure there's no clogs or fuel right on the port on the tip of the handle, and squeeze to 50%-75%. If it still gives you trouble, try another pump.

Even if you had taken a spare gas can, it would be difficult and cumbersome at best to add fuel while on the water. The fuel filler neck is is pointed/oriented towards the starboard. I don't see how you'd get your portable tank nozzle to the filler neck unless you could get your feet on the ground.
@dallasnashdotcom2 жыл бұрын
I had that EXACT thought yesterday after filling my tank. WEIRD design, that, along with the fact that there is NO side entry to either side.

I did it out on the lake hanging over the rail. It wasn’t easy but certainly not impossible unless you are terribly over weight or weak

What did the fuel gauge say? My fuel gauge always shows full. My range calculator, seems to take down, but the fuel bar graph does not move. This weekend, I topped it off, ran for 2 hours, topped it off again with 10 gallons.

My question is to you how is the salt water on the jet engines? Since you work on these and see these boat a lot. I live in Illinois and the fresh water boats are selling higher the the salt water boats. Thanks
@JetBoatPilot2 жыл бұрын
If cared for they do just as well as with freshwater boats but the typical price reduction that you see is because of uncertainty as to whether or not the previous owner took good care of their boat

Off topic question for you. I am thinking of buying a 2015 -2018 Yamaha 242 s. I see a lot of them for sale in Florida. Is it bc of the salt water? How do I check for salt corrosion? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
@JetBoatPilot2 жыл бұрын
I think Florida is the boating capital of the world. You'll see more boats for sale here because there are more boats here.

Hey love you videos. Whats the gas mileage or gallons per hour? Have you compared the 170 to the 230? Just ordered the cruise 18 230, heard rumours that it's a pig on gas lol?

110 litres. Nice chunky sized tank.
@DukeMaster19562 жыл бұрын
So why is it like that? Is it the gas pump or the fuel filler neck on the Switch causing you not to be able to go full flow on the pump? It could be a sharp turn or restriction in the fuel filler neck on the Switch causing the pump to shut off prematurely. Have you tried other gas stations and their pumps yet?
@JetBoatPilot2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure but I believe the owner's manual says fill slowly. Apparently I did not read the instructions before filling up my fuel tank! Lol
@DukeMaster19562 жыл бұрын
@@JetBoatPilot If you could try and look down the filler neck for any restrictions or sharp turns in it. Fuel consumption would be good to know too once you’re past the 10 hour break-in period. Also see if the cruise control works after break-in. Some have had issues with it not working.
