I would hope that it'll be cheaper over the next 8 years. If it's at like 80 grand after 16 years then it's not completely terrible. Still a ton of money though, I think you'd be hard pressed to spend more on maintaining a Jag or Maserati of a similar age. I wonder if an E55 would be cheaper.

The M5 forum is great and plenty of youtube videos to help you repair it. However, allot of the parts can be expensive... I think it is worth to maintain and keep in good condition because the car will last a long time. The quality of the interior and the joy of driving it hard never gets old. I redline it pretty much every time I take it out.

If Kennan is so passionate about the M5, then it is money well spent. I've owned my BMW i3 for 5 years now and all I've spent on that is for a new Airbag sensor which needed replacing and screen wash. The car is still on its original brakes at 80,000km. Apparently, me owning an EV makes me a non-car enthusiast but I love the reliability and lack of maintenance. That and I am tight and BMW maintenance costs scare the shite out of me.
@trizzuth347 ай бұрын
@ewadge just you wait until you have an issue with the parking brake light and BMW's only solution is a $5000 full replacement of the entire ABS unit, all lines and both rear parking brake actuators. Just happened to a buddy of mine and he was able, after EONS of research, of which none is on the internet, figure it out and fix it on his own and save himself 5K. Then there's also the ever looming AC issue that cools the car AND the battery that is multiple thousands when that goes and it will. Then there's the carbon fiber reinforced plastic monocoque that will immediately total the car with any small fender bender, or and the proprietary skinny tires only made by Bridgestone any longer, have to gobble up as many as you can before they are no longer made. Yeah, despite all of these maintenance costs E39M5 FTW over an i3, in fact any E39 over the i3 ALL DAY LONG BABY.
@Emily1963eh5 ай бұрын
When owning an older car like this, you need to be able to use a spanner. E39's are pretty easy to work on and there is an abundance of information on youtube these days. You could probably cut 3/4 of the cost by just doing most of it yourself. Parts availability is also excellent in the States. You could have even got some snap on tools with the savings.

Absolutely magnificent specimin, Only a 'Kennan' could keep one of these at the level of maintainance that these masterpeices of automotive excellence that are the e39 M5 - undoubedly peak bmw. What people dont get about owning a car like this, is its less an ownership than a stewardship - those that take on the responsibility treat it as that - a responsibility an honor - to keep something truly special in perfect working order, for themselves, and future generations to one day enjoy.Full respect Kennan, youre a true enthusiast and gentleman.

Kennan took the middle seat on a flight to buy his E39. Now that’s dedication.

Enjoyed this video a lot, Kenan, good stuff. Can't worry about the cost too much when it brings you that much joy.

I absolutely love your car. My husband and I were going to buy one new, years ago. We now have an E30 vert and an E30 coupe. Love the wheels on your car.

Really looking forward to watching this video! Nothing I love more than hearing a car enthusiast talk about something they're passionate about.

That's probably the most sorted, well maintained, well preserved and best example over all e35 M5 in the world.

It's a very nice high mileage example, but there are lots of near-perfect, all original, lower mileage M5s is circulation.

That’s exactly the approach I am talking with my old 2005 VW Golf. Please bear in mind that I live in Poland and service prices are much lower here (not necessarily parts). Anyway I bought my car for around 4000$ and in the last 17 months I own it spent somewhere around 2000$ for regular service and repair. On top of that another 2000$ to repair some minor collision damage but that came from insurance of nice lady that decided to turn right straight after she heard a command from her sat nav. By the way your BMW service is at the level of service done to metro buses in the company I work for (with that exemption that bus service is rather reactive than proactive). So when somebody buys used bus from us they literally bring them pallet on the forklift with service records.

I get it. Worth all the time and money. Cars are meant to be driven. It only breaks when it sits. Keep racking up the miles!

Kennan, don’t be afraid to upgrade, someday. Drove my 98 Camaro SS 18 years, then into my c7 grand sport. I will keep them both until I can’t push in a clutch.

Kennan is the owner that the E39 deserves. I hope he keeps it.

I sincerely thought it would cost more to own/maintain one of these. Iv yearned for one for a long time, though they aren’t on my immediate radar, this video was helpful and informative on a real ownership experience 😌 thanks Ken

Very cool ,and wow you don’t cut corners Ken. I’ve owned many M cars but never an e39 M5. My favorite is also anther V8 manual M car- the e92 M3.

Hey Kennan, I can truly relate to you, my five zylinder Volvo v70 has been draining my bank account as well. I have driven it over 40000miles and it cost me a whopping 1750euro... brutal... just brutal
