Toronto is one of Canada's most expensive cities, but even I was surprised with just how much prices have gone up in the last couple of years. If you want to live downtown Toronto, you should expect to pay at least $2500 CAD for a one bedroom apartment on a long term lease and $3500+ if it is short term. Even just a room (like in my case) is going to be almost $2,000/month if you want a well rated airbnb in a good area. But nevertheless, it is a great city with a lot to offer, so come join me on a tour of the west side of the city exploring neighborhoods like Bloor West Village, Parkdale, Queen West and also Lake Ontario!

Many years ago, i had a girlfriend who lived in Sherbrooke, Quebec. We used to frequent Toronto quite a lot. Loved the city. The food, The people and the nightlife. I (Jim ) lived in Boston. It was a long-distance relationship that over time didn't work. I have been married to my dear Harriet for 20 years and we lived in Boston, Ma. for that length of time. We now live in Virginia where the cost of living is cheaper. In many categories Toronto and Boston are sister cities. The costs are very similar. In many bigger cities in North America, you'll find that. We love our Boston as you love your Toronto. Our longtime friends are there. We visit Boston when we can. Alina, as you're finding out in Toronto, the costs of long-term living there is becoming out of reach. So many great memories of Toronto. We hope to return there very soon. Maybe someday come and visit Boston, we could do a meet up there and show you around. Sending you much love❤ from Richmond, Va. Harriet, Jim and Yuki

So one conclusion: the rent is absurd! 1760 per month is a lot of money compared to most average salaries I think and other living costs. I myself have my own house in the Netherlands, paying 519 Euro mortgage per month, 1,3% interest wich is very low. But housing costs are insane for a couple of years now, as we have no space in the cities anymore and people are continue to coming. I bought 10 years ago, was very lucky but today I am not able to buy my own house again with the current conditions. Great vid, love your relaxed way of filming and presenting.

I am a Canadian who has been travelling the world since 2017. I am in Bangkok right now and my 1 MONTH rent is $299 canadian dollars, about a 5 minute walk from the nearest metro station. That includes high speed internet plus a TV with international cable and air conditioning. I even have a balcony with a great view of the city and this apartment has 24 security with fob key access. Canada is ridiculously expensive for housing now. I refuse to pay such outrageous rent. I spend about $$20 a day here in addition to my $10 a day rent.

I've been watching your live streams and videos from my hometown Toronto, and they are really good, but for me personally they are kinda of a bore..lol cause I been there done that! lol After 45 years living in Toronto, I finally move out completely out of GTA to Orillia ... I even spent my early childhood in around Bloor West and wished I could move back there but like you said the rents are just too damn high I was priced out...and for my own mental health I needed to get out of TO,, too much traffic congestion, city noise was getting to me. Toronto does have nice old neighborhoods to live and visit like Bloor West but it's just too expensive to live there anymore. It's shame...Looking forward to see live streams and videos from your future trips to South Asia or Japan again or maybe Europe or maybe Greece?! 😃

We are leaving Canada ASAP to be done with this. It is absolutely ridiculous the cost of things. Outside of seeing friends, I'm not sure why you would return to Canada Alina... unless you are coming back for 3 months for healthcare reasons or friends are that compelling, it's just a burn on cash compared to so many places. That and quite frankly the weather suck, the food sucks, and culturally because the country is so large and so diverse historically, it's very watered down. We are looking for cafe culture, markets, the stuff that is just not common here but is the norm in many places.

That's understandable. I did primarily come back to Canada to see my family and friends because it is difficult to travel so much and not have that support system in person. But also I am very comfortable in Canada because I've spent so much time here, thus making it a good place to recuperate after an endless stream of 'new'. But yes, the prices are making it less and less attractive compared to what else is available.

You have absolutely gorgeous hair. But I'm married to a lady who has had anything but a shampoo in a salon for decades. She decided quite young never to shorten her hair. She just has a harstyle that she puts up daily with all of it up. Was fun for a while when surgery disabled her arms and she had to teach me to do every day what she did. Becoming a stylist in advanced years. I mean, it did get done, but we were both happy when her arms worked again.

It's expensive to live in Toronto. My brother lives in Vancouver. It's even worse. It's still a blessing to live here. I used to stay at King st.West next to Queen st. I like the night life there. I'll try that Ethiopian restaurant someday. Presently, I spend a lot of money on gas. When I go out for dinner with friends, we go to the Keg steakhouse and bar. We already know how much we have to spend. But since we enjoy the ambience, it was worth it.

Based Alina. You actually got a good rate on your Airbnb. Cost of living here is disgusting. Change is needed in the federal government!

I wonder if the wages are going up just like the prices, i left Canada back in 2006 and my family left in 2016. It seems crazy expensive now in days.

I have not visited Toronto in over 30 years. It changed a lot. It is definitely more crowded.

Too many immigrants who now outnumber the Canadians there. Plus Toronto is boring.

Hi Alina, I was a little bit worried 😧 You wouldn‘t have hair soon in case You plan es do have so much haircuts 🙂 I was surprised about the difference 45$ for man 75$ for women. It is discrimination, is it? In Germany it also is a difference, but only 35€ vs. 45€. Best regards, Ralf

My first time in Downtown Toronto and the cost of parking is $30 in 4hrs in an underground parking. There is cheaper parking for like $15 but it was far away at the CN tower where i intended to visit. Being from Winnipeg it was too much even food was very expensive. I had some proper lunch and it costs over $30 for one person but i think what made expensive the services fees.

Back in around 1984-1998 Queen St West between Universtiy and West to Spadina. Was like the centre of the universe with many neat shops restaurants underground clubs concerts Much music on the corner of John Queens. It now moved further west but not as fun as used to be and expensive I feel many neighborhoods. Even Yorkville. Losing its lustre and specialness

We love your video blogs, very helpful. In New Zealand 🇳🇿 we spent $ 12.00 for 2 cappuccinos, McDonald's be about $ 30.00 nz, this is the norm for fast food. If you're going to a restaurant you would spend for a meal per person, $ 25.00 plus. We were on holidays for a week, spend 700.00 nz on accommodations in Auckland for 4 days, and activities another 250.00 nz, snow planet and paradise ice.
