That's a very reasonable amount for a 3-night cruise for a single person. You are very good with your budget without being cheap. Enjoy always!

I'm going on my first Disney cruise in February! Do they prefer you to pre tip, or tip at the end? Or can you tip cash nightly during your meal?

The tips for your stateroom host, server, assistant server, and head server are automatic. So it’s up to you if you want to prepay or have it charged to your room. You bring them the envelope the last night and I always put more cash in it. No need to tip them every night.

Did you remember to add the extra set of port taxes, tips, and travel insurance when you calculated your cost for 2 people? I think you did, but I didn't run the figures. DCL rarely offers reduced single supplements and doesn't offer solo cabins like many lines do. Totally agree with coming in the night before--a hotel overnight is cheap insurance! On DCL, it isn't the "extras" that are expensive, it is the base cruise fare. A 3 night cruise is essentially 2 1/2 days. You paid over $300 per night base fare/taxes, $75 for specialty dining, etc. Don't get me wrong, we loved DCL for many years and called it our favorite line. But in contrast, we did an October cruise on Virgin Voyages in a balcony cabin for $96 per person per night. Our booking included some "Sailor's Loot" (OnBoard credit on most lines), and my total bill when we got off the ship was $8. They even added a complimentary package of some goodies as a "status match." Since we are Platinum on DCL, we qualified for the complimentary bag of laundry, $10 per day credit at The Grounds Club (similar to Starbucks/Cove Cafe), a cocktail party, premium wifi, and a few other things. Our $96 per night included everything except shopping, spa, and alcohol, and our Loot covered that. The basic fare includes basic wifi, basic bevvies (brewed coffee, tea, juices from concentrate, soda), ALL dining (which would be specialty dining on most other lines, there is no main dining room,) and ALL GRATUITIES. The ship has a no tipping culture--crew are paid decent salaries. We offered a tip at the spa and it was refused! I actually priced a similar cruise on DCL before I booked, and the cost would have been more than double out base fare not including any extras. You did a great job of keeping costs down, and DCL does have great entertainment. But the cost of adult fares suppiements the cost of running the kid programs on DCL...so if you are cruising as 1 or 2 in cabin, the daily rate will always be high. And even when I had a reasonable amount of OBC, platinum discounts, etc. I've never gotten of a DCL ship with a bill of only $8. I realize that price isn't everything. Still, after 40+ cruises on 6 lines, I was amazed to find Disney quality service, excellent food, etc. for such a good cost. And I booked 3 more cruises! I was only going to book 2, but my travel companion looked on line and requested a third! There is no right line for everyone. But don't be afraid to explore. We are well beyond the kid stage (I'm 68, daughter is 31). Don't be afraid to look around, especially if you are kid free and price is a factor.

I included everything that was charged. I sailed on virgin in July as a solo traveler in a capon that doesn’t give a discount for that and paid significantly more. I will say I thought the entertainment on virgin wasn’t my style and I would pay for DCL time and time again I would personally sail on DCL over Virgin ever single time.

@@BethanyLVinton That's why there are multiple cruise lines for multiple preferences--I agree that much of the entertainment wasn't for me; in fact DCL has the best entertainment. I got no breaks on my VV bookings--the first was going on line and getting the current price. The others have been rebooking on board for that discount. But I can be happy reading on my balcony with no cooking, cleaning, etc.
