You might consider visiting Japan next time, as it’s not as expensive as it’s often perceived to be. I recently returned to Thailand in January after not visiting since 2012, spending most of my time in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. My trip was largely about revisiting the past, but I must admit that Thailand has changed significantly, and not necessarily for the better. The atmosphere that once defined the country seems to have faded. Even small things, like the younger generation in 7-Eleven being glued to their phones, stood out to me. They didn’t have the same warmth and friendliness that I remembered from their parents’ generation. Additionally, the vibrant street food culture has shifted indoors, losing some of its original charm. In contrast, Vietnam felt like a completely different place compared to 20 years ago. The younger generation there is incredibly friendly, a stark difference from what I experienced in Thailand. I didn’t make it to Laos or Cambodia, so I can’t speak to how those places have evolved, but the changes I encountered in Thailand were certainly unexpected. I also want to add something since watching a couple more of your videos. I made a huge mistake in staying near Hua Lumphong Train Station as I had stayed in that area in the past. The whole area was very quiet and what I’ve come to realise is that as Bangkok expands, new and more interesting areas appear. Next time I’ll do more research and hopefully it will be a better time.
@ParkinsonRaw2 ай бұрын
@@ChrisLivingInYork Hi Chris, yes mate unfortunately Thailand is becoming more westernised by the day which can never be a good thing. As you said people become glued to their phones and that’s breeds ignorance. I really enjoyed staying in the outskirts of Bangkok around the Bang Son area it still feels very traditional. Also outside of the capital the more rural you get the better.
