Correct on the type of math needed. If I may add hypothesis testing, linear and multiple regression analysis will be your primary math to use. Statistics can be used for hypothesis testing and regression analysis can be used to figure out correlation between single and multiple variables. But yes like you stated- it’s more bark than bite- if you get yourself well versed in stats and regression Analysis, you’ll be in good hands.
@ChartExplorers3 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure! Hypothesis testing is an important stats skill for many analyst. Based on my experience, many of the job postings, and analyst friends I have talked to it does seem like regression is more advanced than what most data analysts need. I think the biggest discrepancies comes in when poor definitions (or maybe too many definitions) of what a data analyst is. I argue once you start getting into the regression side of things it becomes more of a data science role (even if it is labeled as data analytics). Do you agree with that perspective? Do you use regression much in your work?

Great video! You mentioned that the list of statistical concepts you displayed are typically covered in an intro stats course/book. What are some examples of intermediate statistical concepts/tools you have used in data analysis you think would be good to master?
@ChartExplorers3 жыл бұрын
Hi @Goinggoinggone123, this is a great question! Here is the breakdown according to Bradon (Me): BEGINNER Measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, t-tests, ANOVA, Chi-Square (cross tabulation), Correlation (particularly pearson's R) . INTERMEDIATE Repeated measures ANOVA, OLS Regression, Logistic Regression, Poisson regression, binary/Ordinal regression, even some time series analyses could fit in here like ETS (Eror-Trend-Seasonality) models, Holt - Winters Method (Lots of regression haha - this is because it is broadly used. There are other techniques that are intermediate but it really depends what you are doing whether you should learn the techniques or not.. things like factor analysis, MANOVA, ANCOVA,). I would also suggest that intermediate level takes the those beginner level analyses and understanding them in a greater depth (what are the assumptions of these techniques, what to do when you violate these assumptions, etc.). There is not a hard and fast rule on what stats is beginner, intermediate, and advanced techniques. Some techniques are clearly beginner (measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion) but hopefully this is a acts as a guideline.

@@ChartExplorers Whoa, this was really helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond in such detail, I'll definitely look into these more and also the assumptions of each. Just subscribed to you. Not many KZbinrs would take the time to respond this thoroughly.

@@DBizhanov heyy sorry for late reply!! my study path and career goals kind of changed while I was planning to go data analyst path as a middle-aged man:) going through cloud certifications with security side of things in mind :) so far i got Microsoft az-104, az-305, az-500, CCSK and now working on sc-300 and sc-100 in near future( hopefully by jully 2024 the latest) with ultimate goal of achieving other security certifications..oscp and cissp eventually at some point :) what I've learned and i tell everyone now is try things out see what you really really enjoy doing because there's always a few hurdles along the way which could make things difficult but nothing could stop you if you enjoy what you doing and staying motivated 💪
