Corporate restructuring left me wondering what's next. 20 years later in the dirt and man I love it. Mostly commercial and large residential. I want to work in your neighborhood. My margins are not as high but I am happy. I like your hang it out there attitude. Risk management is important. Only bad thing I see in the video is the choice of equipment. Go get a Takeuchi! Its not too late. I've been in surgery for 16 yrs and I'm in the process of leaving for this full time as the demand is more than I anticipated and I'm in complete control of my time and money. I straight out invested in myself. Took my money out of investments and bought a Bobcat track loader and excavator, a 5500 chevy dumpbtruck, a case bulldozer, 3500 at4, ramp trailer, and in the process of getting a bigger excavator. I should of done this yrs ago but at least I'm doing it now. Pursue it. You won't regret it. Best thing I've ever done. I'll stay per diem in surgery for privileges/credentials only. Best of luck!

I worked for residential electrical contractor for a while and part of my job when I was working for them was driving the Bobcat going around backfilling the ditches they run the underground conduit in. I was so covered in dirt at the end of theday i literally looked like I've been rolling in mud ( it didn't have an enclosed cockpit) but man I had hella fun everyday I was doing that job. I've been working construction for quite pretty much ever since then and my body is broken and everything hurts. Point being I have been seriously thinking about doing this. Seriously let's wear and tear on my body. Just started working on my credit score so I can buy a new to me truck. Llokin like im gonna have to geta diesel 2500 or 3500. Lets not forget about being a legit business, Contractors license, liability insurance, Inland marine insurance, business license,commercial insurance,laws and regulation. Its not just buy a skid-steer, ALOT goes into a actual business.

For another idea at later stage startover: consider buying a used 8' dump truck. Do mulch delivery + beds in spring. A few paver walkways and patios in summer and in fall do cleanups. Rent any tools needed. Throw in house cleanouts for landlords. Get a truck for like $14k. Also can rent bobcats or mini excavators for lawn grading and French drain jobs. I am on track to do this. 43years old. 👍🏼

I’ve been actively searching for employment for nearly three months now, and it’s been an incredibly frustrating experience. As a Class A commercial driver by trade, I’ve explored multiple avenues, but nothing has yielded results. I had to go back to the drawing board and think about what other field can I utilize my license. That’s when I began looking at excavation companies. I knocked on many doors and finally got an opportunity. Just started a new job November 12 as a laborer with an excavation company & it’s something new to me. The shovel & wheel barrel have been my best friends lol. I want to learn how to operate a skid steer so I took it to KZbin and your video came up. Very informative video, I highly appreciate your insight & advice. This is one I’ll be coming back to time & time again. Hopefully in five years or less I can start something on my own. I got an old Ford 3000 tractor for our new property to cut swales and maintain a gravel road in the mountains for the last 2 years. @@gunnerranch Ya. It's Kubota's sub-compact T/L/B. Only weighs about 3,000lbs with the backhoe and bucket on it. It's a little beast of a machine. It's great for a little bit a property (like 1-4 acres). Done a LOT with it since I've got it. French drains, underground drain line extensions for our downspouts, catch basins, clearing land, dug out MANY stumps almost bigger than the tractor, etc etc. It's kind of a Swiss Army Knife Tractor. 😁

I try not to bid my jobs by the hour because then you become an employee. And they watch the clock. You have to bid based how long you think the job will take you. Then add materterisl to that. I bid based off what I'd like to make for three day.

Brother, make sure you get an equipment trailer with bigger axles. A car trailer won't hold up under the weight of a skid steer for very long because the axles and ramps aren't strong enough.

I'm glad I came across this video. I started building homes at 18 years old, back in 1998. I got covid in 2020, I ended up with long covid and couldn't work , i lost everything. I've been sick for 4 years and have tried and tried to build a deck or do some Sheetrock work etc. I simply don't have enough energy to do a lot of physical work anymore due to my disease. I have thought about doing this for several years now since I've been sick, I think I could pick up a cheap one to get started and maybe I will be able to operate it to do small jobs without exhausting myself simply because I'm sitting maneuvering a machine. I love your attitude man! So positive and outgoing, Right now I'm working at the hospital as a CNA basically, I only have a car at the moment. But I did a side job of sand removal for a beach house that sustained damage from hurricane Helene. The guy who was operating the tractor to remove the sand was charging 2,000 a day and it got me thinking how to get into this. I love your video and it's very informative. I just wanna know how do i start from the bottom up? Any input is much appreciated!

Geography plays a big role in your success, I'm in a rural country area with a lot of farms, everybody and their uncle either owns a skid steer or knows someone that does so really can't make any money with dirt work out by me.

Enjoyed the video! I been flatbed trucking on my own for 4 years and have stayed profitable. 🙏🏻I love trucking! BUT side story lol Right after I got my cdl (i was 22)I got a job with a small local company running a dump truck pulling a cat 259d and would clean up new subdivisions. That’s the best job I ever had. Now I got the funds to buy my own equipment but I’m kind of scared and nervous to leave something that has been so good to me. (Trucking) I’m 28 and I’m really thinking of just buying a used bobcat and try to do small jobs on the weekends and if it works out and stay profitable I’ll have a new business ahead of me. It's a great opportunity. Without getting too deep into the weeds, there's lots more to the business. Did you set up an LLC? Incorporate? Liability Insurance? My state requires hoist license to operate a skid steer. Any other things I'm missing? Did you do a video explaining the business set up? Thanks

I worked construction for 4 years out of high school with a tiny little company and hated most of it. (More of a pay issue with my specific company) But you know what I LOVED doing everytime I got the chance? Running the bobcat. 😎 Boss man put me on a week-long dirt moving job with some basic grading (filling potholes in a pasture) Was the best week ever! After bartending for 4 years now I really am starting to miss that skid-steer work and wonder what it would take to get one of my own

Hey man I’m an Aussie This has got me pretty inspired My dad ran a bobcat business when I was very little Owned 4 bobcats a tipper truck and a decent size excavator He started off with a very small cheap old bobcat with no experience and Built his way up he quit due to mental health when I was 6 or 7 and probably ran the business for 8 years or so Ever since I grew up around that I’ve always wanted to do the same thing I’m just obsessed with bobcats and the scope of work you can do with them After watching this video even though I have barely any experience in a bobcat I’m really considering saving up a good deposit for a used one and finance the rest then kick of into a business! I’m 24 maybe I better start young
