Thank you so much for this video. I'm a senior pre-health / biology major in my last 2 semesters. My original plan was to attend med school to become an Anesthesiologist. However, I've been second guessing the entire process for quite some time now. I want to go into a profession that align with my personal lifestyle and something that I will enjoy doing. I have always been a treat the root of the issue and not just the symptoms type of person. A lot say im a "health nut". With having such strong views and a lifestyle that fits everything you've described I feel like this path is what I've been called to do. For that I can't thank you enough. My motivation has been sparked again!

I know is going to be hard at the beginning, but I don't want to be a Family Dr here (that's my specialty in my home country). I don't know any good naturopathic doctors here in the USA charging less than $250-$400 per 1 hour session.. so based on that .. even at lowest.. if an ND works 25 hours a week (5 patients 5 days a week) for 42 weeks per year (10 weeks off between vacation/personal).. that's $262,000+ a year.. There's no way I'd go to ND school to make just 100K a year.. MDs are charging $1,000+ an hour and NDs do almost as much schooling..
@DeannaAndrade
@DeannaAndrade 4 ай бұрын
...Oh and that's based off being on the lower end .. and of course in business for yourself.. working solo.. There are a TON of sick people out there.. it's not hard to market yourself.. just have to do enough consultations to weed out people who can (unfortunately since NDs aren't covered by health insurance) able to afford it vs. not... I know more experienced NDs who are booked out months in advance charging $400 a session .. They have great reviews/results so people are flocking to them and of course once marketing is over they have a LOT of word of mouth.. so imagine they only do 25 hours a week and take off 10 weeks a year..$420,000.. this is before taxes but even on the lower end of 262K.. I'd venture to say it's a great living.. Not for those who are not very organized, self motivated and good at building great relationships with patients and generating good reviews which = word of mouth advertising that pretty much never ends. I got a great deal with my ND who was offering $200 a session to fill up her schedule (she's newer) and within a few months she's fully booked out, cannot take more patients and is $250/session for everyone moving forward. She has no elaborate marketing and just engages in forums/on social media..

Hey there! So im curious to see your thoughts on how you are feeling now about going this route based off the end of your video about being on the fence? Although I still have roughly 5 years until I would enter naturopathic school because I went the mom route 😅 and im also trying to cash flow my bachelor degree so my debt is less... I just wonder if it's even feasible to go this route because I want to help under served communities and women who are constantly dismissed because they are over weight or its just anxiety... I have first hand experience of being dismissed because the ER doctor swore I had heart burn but turned out I had multiple PE and ended up in the hospital for a week. So after that happened I've been looking into what I can do to better our health system (USA). Honestly money isn't a huge thing for me because we already live below our means and my husband is already our sole provider. But I just wonder if I would be able to pull off a low cost clinic so I can provide the best care that we as people need and to not be dismissed... I hope this makes sense, so hard writing on KZbin and getting my thoughts out! Thank you for this video!!!!
@sarah-wellnessgreatness
@sarah-wellnessgreatness 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Caitlin Sallaz! Thank you for watching and for your comment! I may make a video to answer your question in more detail, but short answer is, yes, I think it is possible, especially if your husband has a strong enough income to keep the whole family afloat while you take 4 years to go to school, and several years to build up your practice. If you didn't have your husband's help, I think it would be much much harder to make a decent living if you want to help the under served communities. It was my dream to help the same communities, but then I ended up very financially strained myself and couldn't sustain it. I hope that you will be able to do it because those communities are in definite need of more care and attention. Best of luck!!!

Hello Sakaiza RASOLOFOMANANA-RAJERY! Thank you for watching my videos and for your comment :) I am glad they are helpful! I went to the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Hi! love this channel and hope you're well! I have a question I really hope you have time to answer, I've been researching career paths in holistic medicine and wondered if ND's are able to incorporate energy healing techniques such as reiki, sound therapy, chakra/energy balancing and the use of crystals to aid guided meditation or recommend spirituality based tools for mental health/counselling such as the use of tarot or oracle where appropriate, in combination with the other more common paths of treatment ie. acupuncture, herbalism etc? I haven't been able to find any information on regulation or ethics regarding these areas of healing. I know these techniques aren't a one size fits all or as effective for physical health concerns as say certain supplements or herbs, but it would be interesting to know if they could be incorporated into a treatment plan based on individual beliefs and needs, or if it would be inappropriate for an ND to recommend. Thanks for taking the time to read this! :) all the best!
@sarah-wellnessgreatness
@sarah-wellnessgreatness 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Lorna! Thank you for your thoughtful question. So in accredited Naturopathic Medical school in North America, techniques such as reiki, sound therapy, chakra/energy balancing, crystal meditation are not taught in their curriculum. A naturopathic doctor would have to go elsewhere to learn those tools. So if a ND doesn't go out to learn these tools themselves, then they won't be incorporating them into their practice. I do know that some NDs, mainly old school NDs, do incorporate them into practice, but I think the most recent generation of NDs tend not to. I personally just stick to the more common paths of treatment, and if a patient feels inclined to have a different form of mental emotional healing, I recommend they go seek out their therapy of choice from someone who is more knowledgeable and experienced in that particular therapy. Hope that helps!
@stubmow1567
@stubmow1567 2 жыл бұрын
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness Yes that helps a lot! Just so I know I'm understanding correctly; as long as the individual ND has received the appropriate training outside of ND school, then they're free to incorporate it, but now a days most tend to view it as a separate service to refer to? Thank you so very much for replying! Love your channel! 😊

Hello connie wong! Thank you for watching! Yes, Naturopathic Doctors are allowed to practice acupuncture. They are able to do things like acupuncture, cupping and guasha therapy, as well as prescribe pre formulated chinese herbal medicines. Registered acupunturists have a two year degree in acupuncture and are ONLY allowed to do acupuncture/cupping/guasha, and are not allowed to prescribe any herbal remedies. If an acupuncturist wanted to be able to prescribe herbal remedies, that person would need to spend two more years in school to become a TCM practitioner. Hope that answers your question :)

Hello 33princessilly! Thank you for your question. I would love to help, but I don't generally give out healthcare advice over the internet because its just not the safest way of helping people out. For naturopathic practitioners, it is important for us to get to know the whole health story of each patient in order to give a recommendation that best fits them. Since I don't know any of your patients, I am hesitate to say that one thing will help them or not. I hope you understand. I think it would be best to just have your patients individually seek out the help of a registered naturopathic practitioner in California. Thanks again for your question and am glad you are a nurse who really cares and is looking out for your patients!
