I been in this business since 2016, the sudden popularity of the "prop firm" thing in the last couple years really trips me out, back when I first started a prop firm trade desk trader was someone who literally applied to a job to work for one of those and usually had to go into an office everyday, an employee. I really don't see the point in it tbh, but hey to each their own. I've always traded my own money. I'd say don't ween off that sht, as soon as you can get off then get off, take advantage of the proper tax rules futures offer (I'm assuming you are prop firming through futures trading). 1099 you are not getting the best tax treatment futures offer tbh.

My 2 cents, trade on demo until you have a solid two months of consistent profits logged, ideally 10% profit per month logged. This is a good sign that you might be ready for a real account.

2 decades ago you could not even open an day trade account with less than 25k. Some brokers use to offer account possibility to open restricted account with 10k. Things are different nowadays but the principle stays the same. Awesome content man.

I’ve been trying to become consistently profitable for awhile. I’m close but not there yet. Most recently I traded in $1,250 increments. At some point I realized that “Hey this isn’t working. If I’m stll inconsistent, Why am I putting all of this capital at risk?”. Now it’s strictly SPY options, putting a ballpark of $75 to $100 at risk. I recently scaled back to $75 as I was having issues. My thing is the %s are the same regardless of the $ amount traded. Get my %s down then begin sizing up. Eventually I’ll have the same sizing issues as everybody else. But for now that’s irrelevant. When I am profitable, commisions take a good size chunk of the profits. From my perspective, that’s also irrelevant. So, yeah, I’d love to trade in 5k increments. But I definitely feel like I’d better wait until I build my skill level. But with only $75 to $100 on the line, I’m still in the game. I’m also not cavalier about this. I feel like I don’t just think “Oh well, it’s only $100 so it doesn’t matter.” Hopefully I’m not lying to myself!😁😁😁. Sorry, I know my entries are ridiculously long.

my answer - a bedroom bathroom suite (~$100k) with enough cash to cover your portion of property taxes, utilities, and groceries for the year ($7k is enough for most people) - then $1k to trade, and $1k for 'education' to mirror an experienced trader. $110k in wealth is more than enough. Less if willing to do this in a high poverty neighborhood. This will get you going for the first year, to launch successfully.

My 2 cents, I feel like you can start with any amount, it’s the amount of shares you choose to day trade matters. You can enter a 100 share position on cheaper stocks with little capital and still be profitable. Also, as of May 2024, trades now settle at T+1 days, meaning you can day trade consecutive days with a cash account.

My Question is that I am trying to learn trading from last 8month myself only. I am strictly following Risk management and I have not lost much as I have salary income I give 2-3 hours to it. I am not consistent still. I want to know if am I going to right path. I believe it is possible to become trader by learning yourself. I have not setup any time limit that I need to learn it in 6months or year, I will give it as much as it will take until I become consistent. Don't go this way mate. Been doing this for 10+ years and the learning never stop. theres is no real point in trading where you got it all figured out. You can learn the basic by yourself you can refine you analysis style by yourself. But when it come to take action in the market as a source of income, you need to have a few other successful trader that will open up their active experience to you. The emotional load is not something you can face alone.
