Believe me when I tell you that retirees who chooses to settle in the Philippines already have had a lot of everything. From travel, to foods and entertainment and etcetera. Retirement is more of rest and more rest. Medical expenses, as expected during old age are mostly covered financially, and no worries. And most retirees, like those from the USA are savvy investors too. They have had their 401k, 403b, Roth Ira and even individual investment on stock market. Retirement is a well thought of plan and decisions were made based mostly on financial standing and health. Good insights, anyway and keep on making educational videos like this one.

I'm thinking about retiring in the Philippines, but it's just not going to happen. I know a lot of people from Canada and the US who retired there, but they ended up coming back because many of them got sick. We all know how expensive hospitalization is in the Philippines. A million pesos can be gone in just a few days. That's why I'm more scared to retire there. There's even a saying in the Philippines: "It's okay to have no money, just don't get sick.

I understand your concerns about healthcare in the Philippines. It’s true that medical expenses can add up quickly, especially for serious health issues. Another Philippine retirement expert. I Heard them all. The cost presented here is for minimum lifestyle, which is doable for some - not all. The most important thing to consider when retiring in Philippines is medical support. I’m talking about medicines, specialists, laboratories, emergency transport and hospitals - and cost. From what I’ve seen, most heart attack sufferers do not get medical care on time, which leads to missing the golden hour. Imagine having a heart attack, hop on a jeepney or tricycle to the hospital and then die in traffic.

I live in a luxury condo that's affiliated with a 5-star hotel. The hotel is across my condo. My son had medical emergency and the hotel dispatched it's ambulance and we were at the hospital in 15 minutes. No charge for the Ambulance. If you live in BGC or Makati the hospital is minutes away which is why I live in a CBD with nearby hospitals and clinics. If you really want to be secure then rent a condo that's very close to a reputable private hospital

Nice video. I think one of the things often neglected in the analysis of retiring in the Philippines is the role that the family, as a unit, plays. It would be very difficult for a couple to enjoy retirement in the Philippines if ALL of their kids and grandkids are in the US or Canada. So what ends up happening to most retired people is they choose family over the cost of living advantages of the Philippines.
@salee_talks2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your insight! You’re absolutely right-family plays a crucial role in retirement decisions. Balancing the lower cost of living in the Philippines with the desire to be close to family in the US or Canada is a challenge many face. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
@Ninya_B2 ай бұрын
If you reach that stage where you have grandkids in the US, you certainly adapt to the Western culture. It would help if you let go of them at some point and prioritize yourself for a sound retirement. The kids can and should take care of themselves. We must enjoy what is left of us while we can. We will be a burden to them if we get old here in the US unless we want to live in assisted living.

I compute this before if you retire at 55 or 60. Including the inflation you need atleast 21-25 million to retire but the hidden part is we don’t know is how long we will live here on earth. Some live more than they expect and that time no work and also high maintenance for medical needs. But many people also retire together with the nature or farm they don’t need money as long as they have fruits, vegetable and meat to harvest

My biggest problem I have now is my 3 stepdaughters have become single mums and the three stepchildren are now being raised by me. I was doing ok until the little bastards were born, now 1.8 million pesos per year is not enough to run the household. No more holidays, no more foreign food, no time just stress everyday. Very informative. I always say 'I will only go to Philippines to visit and not live there for good '. A friend, married couple, who retired there came back to the US in less than five months. Their reasons; it took them hours to get to places 10-15 kms away from where they lived; dirty - people dumped trash anywhere and don't seem to care about cleanliness; dogs are everywhere pooping just anywhere; too many by-standers around the neighborhood; friends and relatives showing up by their door without invite; too crowded, etc. People who have been living in the US/ Canada for decades will find readjusting a little difficult. I have the same issues as enumerated above every time I visit Philippines. I think I will be able to get used to life in the Philippines again, but I'm sticking with my statement for now. Every Filipino who came to the US some 25+ years ago should be able to retire anywhere in the planet.
