+chris bossio hey what's up man? Great bid. I have a question. What would you suggest a new barber start with booth rental or commission? Is that the norm for a barber shop to pay commission or do most barber shops do booth rental only? The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to barber school and booth rental starting out just seems crazy to me with no clients. What your take on that

I've been a barber for 35 years. I own my shop and I work alone. I charge $16 a haircut and most give me $20 and tell me to keep the change. I do three cuts an hour for 8 hours and take my money to the bank. I've worked for franchises and in full service salons in the past and worked with some of the best in the business and can tell you, you can never learn enough about all of what barbering is. But in a nutshell becoming a barber can be the best thing you ever did for yourself.

I live in Montreal,Canada average cuts with beard here is 30$ + tips at 15-20 heads a day (let's say 18 heads=540$) × 5=2700$ - 350$ for you barber chair = 2350$ a week ! So that's 122k a year before taxes + tips.. average good barber in Montreal makes between 80k to 100k a year with tips. So just follow your dreams and dont worry about what google says

I make a cool $200-$300 tax free on the weekend as a side thing. It all depends on your clients and how much you charge. I charge less than most shops in my area and I have about 25 loyal customers that I see weekly. about 6 of them bi weekly. It’s decent even part time.

Stay in the Army. Thats guaranteed money and benefits. The barber game is a cash and carry deal. No free medical or dental. No retirement plan. Your reward? The cash you take home everyday. Add in your booth or shop rent and expenditures that cut into your profit margin. You want to go to school? Go into a career that will guarantee you some benefits and a retirement plan. The barber game is no joke.

If you do the hard work and long hours and educate yourself from the beginning you will get good. And the money will come. If you have people work for you you can make six figures really quick. Learn how to properly do scissor haircuts. Don't limit yourself. In the beginning learn from people who are doing the best haircuts. And lastly, do not take barber/hairdressing school as a joke.

Currently in barber school now in Arkansas and its a complete total joke. The owner is mainly a businessman, don’t even give you everything that’s supposed to come in the kit cuz their just too damn lazy, they don’t show up to school 2 times out every week AT LEAST. Or they will pull up late as hell, we don’t do mych but just sit around and wait for people to come in, our “instructors” are all girls who have no idea how to cut hair. I’ve been in barber school for almost a year now, woulda been graduating in August if the corona never happened. In almost my whole year of being there I can’t say I’ve ever actually learned anything from an “instructor” there and everything I’ve learned has been self taught through experience. It’s so disappointing to spend $20k on a barber school that has taught me nothing when they claim they’re the best in the state. The whole school is a joke, nevertheless I show up everyday and put in the work so I can get that damn paper but without the help of any officials from the school. Sorry for the rant but man all of us in the school just wish so bad to have someone that can teach us something

do it because you love the trade. and the money will come with the love. if you do it only for the money chances are you will never have the dedication to reach your full potential and will just be a barber with few return customers or will be jumping from shop to shop thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

I talked to a barber in my area his name is Henry and he has his own barber shop called Henry G's, i told him how was cutting hair and the new clippers I got, and he said Barbers always have money in their pocket, he said since he started cutting he's never been broke again and he told how he got to buy his own house and a car, and take care of his family. He told me he learned from cutting his friend and cousins and when he went to prison he always knew how to cut so they started paying him, and cool thing is he said he learn how to fade with a razor and comb. He said as a barber you'll always have money but you just got to put in the work.

appreciate the vid. there isn't an abundance of info online about a barbers actual pay like other careers. more barbers need to post videos or forums online discussing the pay. there is always an average in every career and barbering is not different. I like the fact of not having a limit to what you can make, but for the new inspiring barber there needs to be more info about actual pay. not generalizations but actual numbers from people in the game.

I should be asleep now lol! Its 2pm and I gotta get ready for work at 8pm. But reading some these comments. Alot of ppl around my way keep telling me, "ahhh that's dope you wanna learn it pays mad money"! Honestly I just wanna learn, I feel that having ambition for anything is good enough as long as it's a positive one and the rest will follow. Just my opinion, take care ppl follow ya dreams and show this youth that's dreams can be achieved!

Can you please give a video in terms of when you do the coloring of hair relaxers on a hair as a barber and I'd like to know where you ever taught how to add eyelash extensions as I noticed that the Xtreme Lashes only allows those that are estheticians Barbers and cosmetologist to you no train for a week's time in adding eyelashes and finally I have the question of as a barber I noticed that they never crossed trained you all in school how to style a woman's hair how to cut it in a pageboy a bob how to Marcel curl it, things of that nature can you tell me why that is why are they not teaching Barbers to be just as diverse as cosmetologist

Mekhi mcgowan most dont and end up broke because of it. but, for those barbers who are smart and have a sense of business there are so many different ways to file taxes being a barber. it also depends on if you own your own shop or rent booths or if you are an employee. most barbers rent booth space which would make them an independent contractor. they would have to file a simple 1040 and a 1099 miscellaneous if your booth rent yearly is more than 500 or 600.00. i believe its 600.00. a shop owner would have to file a little different. if they have employees, then they have to take taxes out of their employee checks and file quarterly with a 941 tax form and so on. employees dont have to worry about much because the shop owner/employer is responsible for handling all of that just like a regular 9-5 job. then, you have a different way or form for filing your tips made 4070A. but, we all know, tips go straight to the pocket and dont get claimed for shit. not all of them anyways. LOL.

you are right. the sky is the limit being a barber. but, it seems like in today's time, a barber must really brand himself if he wants to live nicely and comfortable in the long run. there is no retirement and tbh most barbers are too damn dumb to think about 401ks and what not. im not saying you or any of the other great barbers are this way but most barbers are. its a bit easier in today's time to brand yourself with social media but like you said the barber has to go out and grind and get it with advertisement, social media, etc. the best thing about being a barber is that you get to do something you love doing and its a trade that can be done at an older age. my thing is that id like to be able to spend some time in my later years not having to work. (although most barbers dont look at doing something they love work but, it is what it is) sorry for oing on and on i got caught up rambling LOL. what do you think about this comment though id like to hear your thoughts or feelings about this. thanks for the vid as always.

Elliott Neblett you just gave me my next video friend lol! really appreciate you taking the time to type out your thoughts. i think thats a huge misconception and ill go into detail.. one of the reasons i chose to be a barber is the ability to become financially free alot sooner than a 401k can do for me

chris bossio i feel ya my man and im glad that my comment was able to give you the idea of your next vid. yeah its clear that you are much more business minded and smarter than the average barber especially here in my town. i stay in Gainesville, FL up the road from you and these cats here seem just to be worried about the right now. looking back at my comment, i did leave out the fact that financial freedom can be reached sooner but it is on the barber like you said. yeah, a smart barber who knows to plan for the future or put a lil away for rainy days can definitely get where they can be comfortable and more free a lot sooner than a 401K. thanks for the reply and your comment made me open my brain and eyes as well. thanks for that. ive always loved cutting hair and truly wouldnt mind getting my license and becoming a full time barber but i keep thinking about my two small boys, my state job that has a pension and the fact that i would have to start all over again puts a bit of fear in me to be honest. here i go again. rambling on. let me stop here. LOL. thanks for the reply once again and stay blessed bruh.

*1000 a day??? Come on man.* You would have to book $50 hair cuts, and do 20 a day. You would need about 1-200 clients who follow you to pay $50 hair cuts. HEAR ME; You can make a living as a barber, but most don't make near that much.
@Bossiocuts

+IP Man I own 7 barber shops.. I’m not speaking theory.. obviously the top guys are making 1k a day never said it was average.. but 1 to 3k a week is pretty realistic
@ipman3564
@ipman3564 6 жыл бұрын
Chris. 3k @ week---man, that's making 600@day,...avg cut is 20, that's 30 cuts a day, (no breaks), *that's 8 hrs straight, 6 days a week.* In order to get 30 cuts a day, you need a following of 1-200 strong clients. *THAT'S BEFORE EXPENSES* (rent, supplies etc). IF your chair rental is $400/week, that means you making $600 wk, (if you gross 1k). YOU GOT any videos on how this 1-3k (take home) is achievable?

IP Man don’t sleep on the chain salon. It’s all about being smart and having a plan. The shop I work at a cut is $40 and the shave is $36. I’ve built up a strong foundation and I booth rent in walking distance to the old place, kept my prices the same and I bang 5-700 my 4 days a week. I also do events for my clients and I come to them for more. So just think outside of the 📦

chris bossio oh cool I'm in Miami, I wanted to be a barber but when I went to school I was intimidated, I went in with the attitude of like ok I'm going to school to learn how to cut hair, but the environment was very competitive because all the students new how to cut hair, they were just there to get there license, all barbers seem to have been doing it when they were little kids and some learned in prison but nobody was really about teaching, infact they were clowning me cus I didn't know what I was doing, so I have a question for you, I'm not a good drawer, can I still be a good barber? and I'm 26 years old can I still learn to be a good barber even though I have no experience? if so how long you think it will take to learn? thank you

I recommend barbers use their trade as springboard to eventually leave the trade due to its labor intensive nature. The most I've ever made in one day is $400+. Although it was nice....I busted my ass like no other. Guys/Gals......do something online.....that's where the real cash is ! Educate yourself and move forward !
@Bossiocuts

+Geezer Gains is reccommend that for any profession. Diversify your streams of income and create multiple assets.. trading time for money should never be a long term gig. Even doing something you love starts to get old quickly if you HAVE to do it to make a living
