I think engineers should actively share their salaries with other engineers especially since our field has had pretty significant compensation stagnation the last few decades. I'm in Seattle also, 4 years our of school at $150,000. Aerospace.

Hey! Hope you find the time to answer this question. I'm in the last year of my Bsc. in Mechanical Engineering. I'm currently deciding between a Masters in either Mechanical or Aerospace. My favourite areas of interest are definitely aerodynamics, thermodynamics and heat transfer. Which degree would allow me to earn the most money? I've read that many Mechanical Engineers move to tech companies to get higher salaries (thermal engineering, etc.). Would that move be possible with aerospace?
@Grombrindal919 ай бұрын
@@diogoperdigaodp I’m in thermal, everything you said is mostly accurate. I’d get meche master but frankly it doesn’t matter. Min maxing comp is hard. You’re better off focusing on what you like/you’re good at then weasel up comp later. I’ll tell you though your bosses, work life balance, stress, are more important than comp imo. For me best balance is upper middle of comp but wfh and good coworkers/boss.

For the original post, id say that mechanical engineers should be paid more because for the simple reason that i went to a tech school and got an associate degree in machine tool technology and started out right out of school making 21/hr. Also i live in Alabama where it’s really cheap to live. Now im more than 10 years in and im making 41/hr and still in alabama. I know several machinists in Washington and LA that are making nearly 200k yr as a machinist lol. Im sitting in alabama where you can get a really nice house for 250k and im making over 100k yr with overtime. So moral of the story is im doing better than most engineers that went through a brutal 4 yr program and i only did a very easy 2 yrs. Also my insurance is great and my company is paying 100% of my tuition to put me through engineering school. Sad thing is when i start work with my current company i really wont see any more money lol. Basically i doing it because its free and currently just bored with machining

I’ve been watching your videos since freshman year of engineering school. You definitely motivated me to keep striving for the degree. Last December, I graduated with a bachelor’s of Aerospace Engineering. Recently I’ve got a position as an Aerospace Structural Analysis Engineer. I appreciate you sharing your experience. I didn’t know what it was like to be an aerospace engineer let alone a female aerospace engineer. Your videos helped me understand what skills are needed and the work life of an aerospace engineer. Thank you:)

I failed every math class in high school. Summer school become normal. The problem with math in HS is that nothing seems real. Math wasn’t born out of thin air, Engineers and Scientists and Business people used it as tool. Studying Engineering makes math easy, cause it become tangible, it becomes real. And Real math is beautiful. I still struggle but you can learn anything cause the men and women the created math are no smarter then you, they just had a greater need to develop it. Get a good tutor and enjoy the process

If you really wanted to become an aerospace engineer and wanted to become good at math the best advice is sleep 8 hours(like the literally sleep not being in just being bed) very low light low noise environment and most importantly a high protein low bread diet.
