I would not recommend the P.E. license unless you need it for your field of engineering. It will not help you unless you work in designing public infrastructure for your state. It may hinder you in getting a job where the license is not needed, such as everything not related to state government construction projects. Less than 1% of all engineers need a P.E. license for their work, beyond that I think it's a hassle to maintain the license, and provides no benefit unless you are required to stamp design plans.

@@azapps In EE, Power system studies for the engineering designs are also required engineers to have P.E.'s, I'm one of the 700+ licensed PE with international registry, as far as I can tell (with 8 yrs experience). If you want to expand your career horizon and becoming a licensed engineer/project manager in other APEC countries, or even founding your own engineering firm. PE can help you with getting that qualification.

However I am an EE, I've spent ten years building satellite power systems, I have three in low earth orbit, and one deep space probe called Deep Space One running on an ion engine that I helped design. I have since started my own engineering firm going on 15 years, designing aerospace, medical and commercial electronics. I have 4 engineers, three technicians and three programmers on staff. None of us will ever need a P.E. license.

PE isn't required for electronics and programmers type-jobs, it's primarily for facility construction, use as a qualification to a job and to hold accountability when public safety is concerned. Just curious, how soon do you see space-based solar power becomes practical if you know?
