I review candidate resumes and interview them. If you are about to graduate and you have passed the FE, put it on your resume because I will move it towards the top of the stack. If you haven't done the FE yet, schedule it and write that on your resume. A lot of graduate job listings will say that having your EIT certificate is required for applications as well. Some might say that you need to be able to get it within 6 months. I am yet to see a listing that says doesn't have the EIT certificate associated with some sort of requirement.

it looks the PE exam policy same with singapore, i working in singapore now, but i am a Chinese, for last 11 years i worked in building field as a civil engineer, i got 2 First class construction engineer licenses in China (building area and infrastructure area), i am perfer to work in international peoject in next 10 years, unfortunately, My university is not on the list, I need to continue my education first, I have sufficient engineering knowledge and experience,if i prepaer for the PE exam i have to spend more than others,do you think it is worth it?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 2 сағат бұрын
@xiaodiqiao934 Thank you for sharing your story and your thoughtful question! It sounds like you have an impressive background with your experience and licenses in China. Transitioning to international projects and preparing for the PE exam is certainly a big commitment, especially if your university isn’t on the approved list and you need to pursue further education. Whether it’s “worth it” depends on your career goals and where you see yourself in the next 10 years. If working on international projects is a priority, earning the PE license could open doors to new opportunities and increase your professional credibility. It’s also a globally recognized credential, which may help you stand out in a competitive job market. While the preparation might require more time and effort, your extensive engineering experience could be a great foundation for the exam. If you’re still unsure, it might be helpful to connect with others who’ve pursued the PE exam under similar circumstances or consult with a licensing board to better understand the requirements and benefits in your specific case. We wish you the best in your career journey!

could I present to the FE exam if I have a bsc from a non ABET-accredited university? I must mention that my univeristy is in the top 30 best universities of civil engineering in the qs ranking. Also, I don't understand why some "prestigious" universities like mine doesn't have the accreditation but some schools that are far less prestigious have the accreditations (not US universities).
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Жыл бұрын
The requirements for taking the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam vary by jurisdiction, but typically, you need to have a degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or be in the process of completing such a degree. If your university is not ABET-accredited, you may still be eligible to take the FE exam if you meet other criteria, such as having a degree in a related field, or if your university's program is deemed equivalent to an ABET-accredited program by the licensing board in your jurisdiction. Regarding your question about the ranking of universities, ABET accreditation is not necessarily tied to the overall ranking of a university. Instead, ABET evaluates individual engineering programs based on their own specific criteria. This accreditation is seen as important because it ensures that the program provides students with the necessary foundation of knowledge and skills to practice engineering in a safe and ethical manner. I would recommend checking with the licensing board in your jurisdiction to determine what criteria you must meet in order to be eligible to take the FE exam, and whether your degree from a non-ABET-accredited university will meet those criteria.

@PassthePEExam Жыл бұрын
@obulp8406 Yes, you are eligible to take the FE exam if you completed a master's degree in structural engineering in 2013 from a college that received ABET accreditation after you graduated. The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is an introductory exam that is required to become a licensed professional engineer (PE) in the United States. The exam is administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) and covers a broad range of engineering topics, including mathematics, science, and engineering principles. To learn more about the FE exam and to register for the exam, please visit the NCEES website: ncees.org/exams/fe-exam/ Please note that some states may have additional requirements for taking the FE exam. It is important to check with your state's board of engineering examiners to confirm your eligibility.

@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 10 ай бұрын
@Abdinago It's understandable that you haven't heard of these exams if you haven't been actively involved in professional engineering licensure processes in your region. These exams are primarily relevant in North America, particularly the United States and Canada. However, even though you might not be required to take the FE or PE exams in Ethiopia, there could still be benefits to doing so, depending on your career goals. Here's a breakdown of the exams and how you can approach them: 1. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam: Purpose: Assesses your comprehension of fundamental engineering knowledge across various disciplines. Eligibility: Open to recent graduates or students near graduation of an ABET-accredited engineering program. Benefits: Earns you "Engineer-in-Training (EIT)" status, demonstrating foundational competency and potential for engineering licensure. Taking the exam in Ethiopia: While the NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying) doesn't have test centers in Ethiopia, you can register and take the exam online at Pearson VUE testing centers, which might be available in your major cities. 2. Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam: Purpose: Tests your ability to apply engineering knowledge and experience to solve real-world problems in a specific engineering discipline. Eligibility: Requires passing the FE exam, plus 4 years of relevant engineering experience. Benefits: Earns you a "Professional Engineer (PE)" license, opening doors to career advancement, higher salaries, and independent practice in some jurisdictions. Taking the exam in Ethiopia: Similar to the FE exam, you can take the PE exam online at Pearson VUE centers if available in your area. However, keep in mind that the PE exam focuses on specific engineering disciplines, so choosing the one corresponding to your area of expertise is crucial. Here are some additional resources that might be helpful: NCEES website: ncees.org/ ABET website: www.abet.org/ Pearson VUE website: home.pearsonvue.com/Test-takers.aspx Remember, while these exams might not be mandatory for your current role in Ethiopia, obtaining EIT or PE status could be valuable for career advancement, particularly if you consider working in countries where these licenses are required. Feel free to ask me any further questions you might have about the FE or PE exams, or anything else related to engineering licensure!

@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Жыл бұрын
As a civil engineer with 6 years of experience and having graduated from Afghanistan, you may want to consider preparing for the Civil PE (Professional Engineer) exam in the United States. The PE license is a professional credential that demonstrates your competence and ability to practice civil engineering independently. Additionally, if you're interested in obtaining the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation first, you may need to fulfill certain requirements, such as passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, before being eligible to take the Civil PE exam. Confirm the specific requirements with the licensing board in your chosen state. Remember to consult the licensing board's website and the NCEES website for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the licensure process and exam requirements for civil engineers in the state you're interested in.

Want to take the FE exam. In Tx is there any (courses experience degree) cerion required before one takes the exam or can one obtain the study materials and take the exam
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 10 ай бұрын
@charlesharrington677 In Texas, there are some requirements before you can take the FE exam, but obtaining specific courses, experience, or a degree isn't mandatory. However, having them will definitely help you pass. Here's the breakdown: Eligibility: Educational Background: While not a strict requirement, the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (TBPLS) strongly recommends taking the FE exam within a year of graduating from an ABET-accredited engineering program. Non-ABET graduates can still qualify through other pathways, including completing accredited engineering programs, work experience under a licensed engineer, or passing alternative exams and fulfilling specific coursework requirements. Experience: Not required for the exam itself, but gaining relevant engineering experience after graduation can significantly boost your chances of passing. 4 years of experience is often recommended for the subsequent PE exam. Study Materials: NCEES: The National Council of Examinations for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) offers official study materials, including practice problems, reference manuals, and sample exams. These are a reliable and comprehensive resource for preparation. Third-party resources: Numerous third-party resources like prep courses, practice tests, and online study platforms are available. These can be valuable supplements to the official materials, but make sure they are reputable and up-to-date. Taking the Exam: Registration: You need to register with NCEES, choose your desired discipline (chemical, civil, electrical, etc.), and schedule your exam at a Pearson VUE testing center. Cost: The exam fee is $225. Format: The FE is a computer-based exam, lasting 5 hours and 20 minutes with 110 multiple-choice questions. Each discipline focuses on specific engineering fundamentals. Recommendation: While technically you can obtain study materials and take the exam without specific courses, experience, or a degree, it's strongly recommended to have a solid foundation in engineering principles. Consider these options: Finish your ABET-accredited engineering degree: This provides the best preparation and fulfills the educational requirement for the PE exam later. Take supplementary courses: If lacking an ABET degree, consider relevant engineering courses to fill knowledge gaps. Gain relevant experience: Work under a licensed engineer to gain practical knowledge and improve your understanding of the field. Utilize comprehensive study materials: Combine official NCEES resources with high-quality third-party options for thorough preparation. Taking the FE exam is a significant step towards becoming a licensed engineer in Texas. By ensuring you have the necessary knowledge and skills through education, experience, and dedicated study, you'll increase your chances of success and embark on a rewarding career path.

Can an international from UK able to take these tests?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 11 ай бұрын
@vamsikrishna5161 Yes, an international from the UK can take the PE (Professional Engineer) exam in the United States. However, there are some specific requirements and steps you need to follow, which may vary depending on the state where you want to be licensed. Here's a general overview: Eligibility: Engineering Degree: You must have an engineering degree from an accredited program. Accrediting bodies for engineering programs in the UK include the Engineering Council (EC) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Ensure your degree program falls under their accreditation. Experience: You need to have a minimum number of years of relevant engineering experience under the supervision of a licensed PE. The required experience typically ranges from 4 to 8 years, depending on the state. National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Records: You need to register with NCEES, the organization that administers the PE exam, and submit your engineering transcripts and experience verification forms. FE Exam: In some states, you may need to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam before taking the PE exam. This exam tests your general engineering knowledge. Steps: Contact the state board of your desired licensure: Each state has its own licensing board for engineers. The board will provide you with specific information about the requirements and application process for taking the PE exam in that state. Verify your engineering degree: You may need to have your engineering degree evaluated by a company like WES (World Education Services) to ensure it meets the accreditation requirements of the state board. Gather your experience verification documents: Collect documents from your supervisors verifying your relevant engineering experience. Register with NCEES: Create an account and submit your required documents to NCEES. Schedule your PE exam: Once approved, choose a testing date and location for your PE exam. Prepare for the exam: Use available study materials and take practice exams to prepare for the PE exam. Additional considerations: Language Requirements: While proficiency in English is generally expected, specific language tests may not be required. Check with the state board for details. Visa Status: Depending on your visa status, you may need to meet additional requirements or obtain specific work authorization to practice as a licensed PE in the US. For more information and specific details, I recommend visiting the websites of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) and the state board of your desired licensure. I hope this information helps! Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Is passing FE Exam has Validity/Expiration?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Жыл бұрын
Yes, passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam has validity or expiration, depending on the state or jurisdiction in which you took the exam. In most states, the FE exam certification does not expire, and once you pass the exam, you can hold the certification indefinitely. However, some states require you to apply for the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification within a certain time frame after passing the FE exam. For example, in California, you must apply for EIT certification within two years of passing the FE exam, or you will need to retake the exam. It's important to check with your state licensing board or engineering society to determine the specific requirements and validity periods for the FE exam certification in your area.
