I will be a lot more interested if the Exec's of the PGA TOUR would take their foot of the neck of the major networks and allow LIV to be shown on a major sports network..

You have a problem with 72 hole tournaments? You like less competitive golf? Then LIV is just your thing: no cut, 54 hole golf exhibitions. Pretty soon these players will want to shorten the courses so they don't need to keep a driver in their bag.

Bold prediction… LIV will be the elite world tour in 2-3 years and the pga, DP, and all others will be triple AAA ball.
@abefroman47159 ай бұрын
The amount of rounds doesn’t really matter, LIV is in the early stages maybe it becomes prestigious but that takes time the PGA wasn’t automatically prestigious when it started same for NFL MLB etc. Prestige comes with time.

Would you be okay with a 7 inning baseball game, a 40 minute NBA game, 48 minute football game and a 75 minute soccer game? All these length’s were established over 100 years ago. That is why golf is 72 holes.

This seems more about PIF flexing their financial muscles, they are possibly losing their patience with the PGA Tour. They could press the button to start creating their own global Major Tournaments. Once LIV Golf secures primetime TV it seems game over for everyone else hoping to be part of the new world of golf!

LIV golf is a rich, out of touch, foreigners idea of what would attract "meathead" Americans(ie. NFL fans).. who he believes is an untapped market that doesn't watch golf. "Shorter tournaments bcuz dumb American's attention spans are microscopic" ~ the PGA tour did just fine with people paying attention for 4rds "Let em wear shorts & play loud music" ~ as someone who's played since a kid & competitively for a long time, dressing nicely & following the traditions of golf was something that attracted me & my friends/teammates & we never saw it as a hindrance "Make it teams too & put em together by nationality" ~ the Ryder Cup feel will never be repeatable in miniature Dan absolutely nailed it, Jon Rahm wasn't driving people to their TV's on the weekends. _This changes nothing,_ the PGA tour has the records, events & traditional courses that people tune in to see, LIV can't buy that

The PGA has seen it's ass. Since start of 2018 19 majors have been played (1 cancelled due to Covid)...and 11 was won by players on LIV. The PGA even had to get Tiger out of sickbay to try and stop the bleeding of golf fans to LIV. Don't think there will be an immediately agreement by 31 Dec and I am sure there are a few more PGA top players to follow Rahm soon. PGA tried their hand to state there are other possible investors...but they are now less valuable after Rahm left, so the offer will today be much less than 2 days ago. LIV on the other hand is in a much stronger position now, and will be in an even better position before their next season starts...watch this space. I personally think LIV should have taken over DP Tour (which are not much these days) and be the European Tour. Then This tour and the PGA can be the feeder tours for LIV that can be a world tour in which teams from those 2 tours can compete against each other....maybe in an extended ryder cup type tournament

Dan, two rounds to make the cut does not sell anymore. All it does is weed out players who don't have the sponsors to continue carrying them. Three rounds did not appeal to me until I realized it was a shoot-out and strokes count. The team aspect tied to nationalities is the Ryder cup on a smaller scale. Worldwide accepts the new concept. All the PGA showed much to my dismay is US arrogance and screw the world. The PGA had no real way to grow the game of golf with equity for the players. Dan, different times, different interests, and Jon just changed "his equipment" to adapt. JM of the Tour threw all the legacy scorched Earth crap out the window, turned on Tiger and Rory, and made a deal to manipulate once again. Jon saw thru that and went for the equity, rather than the Tiger- Rory show and venture capital game. Jon had no say, but LIV will give him a voice. The money ritual came into play to insure he had an edge due to the risk. The PGA has used these top players over the years and it is payback time. I believe we all heard the grumbling among the players during the Ryder Cup. The PGA and elite messed up and they will suffer a 1,000 cuts. If they don't get rid of JM, then Rory will be playing 2 people in the majors and it will look like the Kornferry Tour 2.0 driving audiences away. Too many in media have their career at stake and owe allegiance to the Tour. That is the pyramid and the power dynamics. Change is afoot. I will only be happy when all players have access to the majors and key events for the betterment of the game. Jon's decision may in the end be about the money, but JM made it clear it is about the money, too. The money they don't have. I hope golf wins and the bloodbath ceases soon.

Name a single individual sport that ever transitioned to a team concept. The Ryder cup is nationalism d so don't use that.
@dalekeeler72099 ай бұрын
@@Gnofg exactly, lets say the Major tournaments add a team event to each tournament, which one do you think the players would rather win, the Masters Team title or the individual. Team aspects to individual sports are overrated, they are a nice addition but in the long run the competitors would rather win it by themselves.
@Gnofg9 ай бұрын
@@dalekeeler7209 Team sports demand sacrifice. Whether it is a pick, block or a sac bunt there is a component of the game that demands it to be successful. There is no sacrifice for the “team” in an individual sport. That is why it never captures viewer’s attention.
@stevepierce12389 ай бұрын
@@Gnofg If you look at the LIV events they are individual winnings and team split winnings. LIV is not team only. I see your point but it is apples and oranges in comparison. LIV is a work in progress and Jon hopes to have a say in future changes. The PGA did not listen to Jon or keep him informed. They messed up. I am hoping it is good for golf and that we will be better for it.

You cannot honestly sit there and go "You're not playing real golf...you're just not playing real golf." Sorry, but why is this elitism infecting the perception of what golf is about? If I go out and book 4 Tee times or 3 Tee times or 2 Tee times at the same course back to back days....am I not playing real golf? Am I not playing golf at all? Or am I just swinging a club for the hell of it. You want the game of golf to lose popularity and drive people away...keep talking like you are the key holders to this great game. Tournament golf is golf. Golf is tournament golf. Par 3 courses are golf. Mini golf is golf. Golf is Golf no matter how you play it. Keep gate keeping people from this game by telling them the only TRUE GOLF is the golf YOU approve of.

You are just wrong LIv are not playing real golf and that there is no drama. The only thing missing are the owgr points they deserve. Who cares about this arbitrary obsession with 4 rounds? Or Pants? Or taking hours for everyone to tee off? Or hearing porta John doors slamming over cool music? These things don’t matter to the competition much but they Make for a way better experience for the next generation of viewers, who are just not built to sit around for hours watching sleepy golf im ok with it. But I get most people today are not. They like more things going on and things to move along faster and LIv gives that. Also Dan is just wrong about Gooch. He is one of the best in the world. As he said he does not know how to find CW or the various other ways to watch. But I am. And Gooch is world class right now. Finally What this does for the merger is break the pga tours back a little more in the negotiation table.

It was already the best league in golf. And now it crushes the PGA tour. Now all of these 54 hole pga events next year are going to be disappointing to Dan. LIV is the best with everyone on the course at the same time, nonstop action.

The format of LIV isn't good. It's not exciting with the shotgun format, as part of the drama is seeing how the leaders play the closing holes, which are designed to test the players down the stretch. The blaring music is a distraction.
