hard to compare the softness difference when the focus is jumping all the time. 2:34

welcome to the world of Fujifilm cameras 🙃

Really nice, thanks for the test! 1/4 seems the sweet spot to me. At nighttime, it's way more intense and even 1/8 is quite noticeable.

Totally agree! 1 stop at night had me feeling like I was wearing steamed up glasses

If you are doing more scenic productions, maybe even fictional short film productions, you could also use the full stop or even stack ontop of it, if you are in a scene that shows a memory of whoevers memory we are looking at in that scene. Thats definitely something to consider.

Good idea! Love the thinking!

@@gabrielbailey802 I always aim to set any camera setting with intent. This includes filters and their intensity, focal length (in terms of lens compression), framing, composition, looking up or down, lighting of my subject and its sorroundings and even shutter speed. Always ask yourself the question: "Why should I shoot this with that foreground, why should I do a close up of my subjects face, why should I light them up much brighter than the background (in order to convey or insentivise the feeling of uncertainty and worry)? A camera can convey many feelings and we should always choose settings appropriate to our scene. This can also mean that you maybe leave your gimbal in your car and instead do a wide angle pan from a tripod if that is a more appropriate thing to do for the feeling you want to convey, even if it doesnt look as cInEmAtIc, because this is what actual cinema is really about. In major cinema blockbusters basically every shot was crafted with clear intent, even breaking rules intentionally to convey a certain feeling. This is where true depth comes from. If you can do eye candy, bokeh, colorful pictures with bokeh in the foreground and background on your f1.4 photo primes, thats cool and all. But this is not going to make your shots cinema like suddenly. There is so much more depth to a story than just the depth of the frame you are looking at in a literal way. That kind of attitude may be sufficient for ENG and maybe even coporate podcasts and lower budget commercials, but definitely not enough for real cinema workflows and netflix documentries. These agencies know exactly what kind of film they want and as a film maker even 20 years into your carreer, we should all accept that there is still something new to learn. Always look for the appropriate extraordinary. But make sure its appropriate first. So many ENG shooters with their f2.8 zoom lenses and vario NDs force any foreground into their shots its almost upsetting me. You are doing news about Volkswagen financial crisis. Why am I looking at a close up from a bush with a focus shift to the subject leading to a home story of why lowering salary is bad for the workers? What do flowers have to do with this? I'd get the pun if the film were at least about ADHD or so. Everything you shoot, set up and do must have intent if you want the best possible quality. Everything you shoot set up and do will convey a certain feeling or information, no matter if its intentional or unintentional.

It's worth noting that the apparent diffusion at a given filter strength will vary with FOV; tighter focal lengths will amplify the effect. A focal length disclaimer for the example shots would be helpful. FYI

Great Point! All shots were at 35mm FOV equivalent, have added to the description!

I think there was a problem with the auto-focus in the video. Were you using a fujifilm camera lol

Yes I was, enough said 😅

Couldn't tell much in daylight but in night 1/8 is good but I won't go much more than 1/4. 1/2 and 1 looks too much.

can be subtle sometimes, but agree at nighttime it was very apparent!

Oooh, oooh, I know the answer to this! There's no such thing as too much pro-mist!! 🌫😅

hahaha - stacking all the pro-mist was almost enough pro-mist, but not quite
