So many people get hung up on having the "latest and greatest" camera gear that they forget, for the past 15 years, cameras have been taking absolutely amazing quality photos. If they went out and really learned how to shoot with what they have and really developed their craft with the tools they already own and know, they'll likely get a better result than they would by "upgrading" their camera and having to feel like they now need to incorporate all the new features of this tool into their craft. I've seen college students with starter kit cameras get better results than people shooting professionally because they are forced to learn how to use their tool in unique ways. You're absolutely right that obsolescence is obsolete.
@fotografalexandernikolis7 ай бұрын
How much are you people going to beat that dead horse? Of course you're not wrong, but there is way more nuance to it that you're leaving out, so it's not entirely correct either depending on one's needs. Someone who loves taking photos from high and low angles for example will benefit hugely from upgrading to a camera with flip-out display if their current one doesn't have it. I have many favorite photos I wouldn't have been able to take without it. I also have lots of photos that I simply wouldn't have been able to take without the IBIS in my X-T5. Either because I wanted hand-held long exposure for the stylistic effect, or had to use up to 1/4s hand-held in extreme darkness. So, not everything about a new/different camera is about the paper specs like megapixels or FPS. So you're not wrong, but you're also oversimplifying it too much.
@thedude1307 ай бұрын
@@fotografalexandernikolis OP really isn't not oversimplifying it. Is it EASIER with the latest and greatest? Obviously. But is it IMPOSSIBLE to get those supposed shots you "can't get without X and Y? Absolutely not. It is 100% entirely possible, but you have to be creative enough (outside of lenses, focal lengths, etc. being a factor). That's entirely what photography is about, getting creative. Just because you aren't able to get a shot right away from lack of creativity, doesn't mean it's impossible. There are MANY shots you weren't prepared for even with the latest and greatest. I was stuck on an iPhone X for the last 5+ years, in which, it's been dying for the last 2-3. I honed my photography style and skills better than I ever have before in my life. Been shooting for 15+ years now. Just recently picked up a Nikon D800 with a few prime lenses for $600, and I absolutely do not regret, not getting the latest and greatest, because I don't need it. I'm not saying you can't *want* to get the latest and greatest, but to think it's necessary is wholly misinforming and just plain wrong. I'll sit here with my photography equipment that will do *JUST* as good in terms of overall quality, for a third of the price, and I'll be damn happy about it. P.S. Picked up a Nikon D200 from 2005 as well. Having more fun and getting better shots on that camera than I have ever before in my life. 2005, CCD sensor, 10mp. You don't *NEED* any of the latest and greatest. Except MAYBE if you're a world-class photographer for Nat Geo, or Time, etc.
@fotografalexandernikolis7 ай бұрын
@@thedude130 Well you're also kind of ignoring the fact that creativity and technical possibility are two separate things that go hand in hand. Take a bird photographer for example, obviously the good ones have amazing skill and creativity, but those properties can't replace the technical need for a telephoto lens. You wouldn't tell a bird shooter to buy an old manual focus 28mm f2.8 lens and then tell them "you're just lacking skill if you don't get good shots of birds in flight with that lens". If what you have works for you then great, but true knowledge also means being able to see when a certain situation actually requires a better tool. Try taking a hand held long exposure (1/2s) of a waterfall without IBIS. If you're in a pinch and didn't bring a tripod, there's no creativity that can help you there. Creativity is obviously the basis, and you won't get good shots without it. But to say that certain features are only a "want" is ignorant. It depends entirely on what you're trying to do. It's like the "the customer is always right argument" where the other half is often left out: "in terms of taste". And similarly the argument "a bad photographer won't get better with a new camera" argument is also missing the other half: "But an ALREADY good photographer who can make use of newer features can get better results in some situations". An already good videographer will benefit from a camera with better battery life. An already good wildlife shooter will benefit from better AF, and so on. This is the other half of the coin that people like you always fail to acknowledge for some reason. This isn't to say that everyone should rush out and buy the latest stuff. But to make it sound like the latest stuff is completely pointless is just flat out false. That's why I'm saying the discussion needs more nuance!
@thedude1307 ай бұрын
@@fotografalexandernikolis I stated that there are logical factors here based in reality. OBVIOUSLY you're not going to be taking close up photos of birds with a 28mm lens. That doesn't even need mentioning lmfao. Didn't even bother reading the rest of that. My point remains, skill issue. 😂
