Hey everyone, some helpful people have pointed out a few minor errors in the spreadsheet. Which means the target hourly rate in this video should be a little higher than what it was. If you are downloading it after this comment was made then don't worry, they are fixed now so should be accurate numbers. Remember, use this spreadsheet as a simple guide. Best to work with an accountant to work things out exactly.

Hey mate, Listened to the pod to day and got me thinking what my profit margin was. Did some calculations and worked out that last financial year we had a 40% margin, I knew we were running good but never realized how good. Thanks for the insight, will definitely be looking at this on a 3 monthly basis.

Thank you so much for making this video! After 5yrs of running my own gardening business, I was beginning to struggle with the financial side but I'm currently rethinking my overall pricing structure and the spreadsheet has really helped highlight the often overlooked billable stuff. I really like the unpatronizing but insightful manner of your approach too. Thanks for the first three podcasts, please make loads more!

Started listening to this pod episode today, realised i wanted to come and watch it on here and follow along with the spreadsheet. Although ive been operating for myself for 7 years, I just started up fresh 12 months ago and i have really been struggling with getting work close to home, my bank accounts are terrible, i have a young family to support which means i often need to work around childcare drop off & pick up. My calculated hourly rate on the spreadsheet was projected at 130p.h and im only charging 80p.h. Im really only doing residential work as the commercial space is challenging to get back into. But my real world expenses from the last financial year, and the forst 6 months of this financial year put me at running costs at 55k, without me drawing any owners drawings. Yes some of those expenses are for personal use (e.g bunnings, officeworks etc) but that amount of money going out sounds extremely high to me. Luke are you offering any personal private support on this topic? New to the podcast, really enjoying it thus far, have signed up to the lawn shed too, and im glad Ashley James also calls a whippy a brushcutter lol

Anything under $75 p/h is not really profitable imo don’t get equipment off the truck for less then $50 Cheap prices leads to cheap customers I feel good when it works out being $100 p/h I never quote the hour also Great video guys! Any Aussie law companies please subscribe to help grow our community ! Lawn care is expanding and I’m so grateful for all the information that’s out there

Gday luke. Ive been running a gardening business for 7 years and ive been ruining myself. Its a hard slog and im a one man band seeming to always be crawling my way through to the next year. My quality is hands down top notch and ive found it difficult trying to see that im worth more. After this video i realised that not only have i been taken advantage of, but i could have been happier in life with stability for years as my quality out does most. Your video is clear as day and i absorbed every word of it. I work in the southern highlands and my hedges and edges are straighter than ever and i work long days. Everyone around seems to be getting ahead but me.. until now you legend. Im going to be downloading the spreadsheet asap. I honestly cant thank you enough. 🙏🤙

hourly rates 2013 If u do your BAS statement u understand what your overheads are . At 60-80$an hour your overhead will be 40--50% BREAD AND BUTTER JOBS ALL YOUR BIG JOBS NEED TO BE 90--100+ If your not charging at these rates you are working for nothing decent big ride on is 20--30 k x 3 units same cost for last 10yrs trailer4k--8k some have 2 trailers been the same for last 10yrs approx ute 35----40k-last 5yrs Its expensive you have to depreciate the machinery most machines/utes lifespan = 5-yrs windscreen time = waste /expense Charge less than above figures u will go broke Minimum charge out hourly rate

Made me rethink many things when I was running my small gardening business and how badly I was winging it in my mid 20s , I was charging $65 per hour in my first year. I ended up quitting it and going into electrical distribution as the money is just simply insane 150k-200k per year. Running a small business is truly a hard gig to pull off and just wasn't for me and I respect the hell out of anyone that does it for a living and makes good money. I still love gardening and turf just as a hobby now in my personal time ! Will always be in my blood. Fantastic video for future gardeners and turfies ! Great job !

I find that 90 percent of customers want to cheap out then think it's the same price whether they ask you to mow two weeks later or two months later, how do you sift down to that small percentage of golden customers?
